China vs Japan

What i don't get why not just put nukes on taiwan soil and aim them at china to prevent any possible war.

Because that's called escalation. You usually respond tactical forces with tactical forces.

If you employ strategic forces you are basically telling your adversary to also employ strategic forces.

Ps. Go watch 13 days and see why the US called Cuba's Blockade in the missile crisis a quarantine and not a Blockade.

The number of ships, from aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships to requiring RORO ferries being constructed to a military standard (CCP military standard - but still higher than civilian), the size of their rocket forces, claims of hypersonic missiles, and even moving mock-ups of US carriers on bombing ranges in the Gobi Desert all points to a different direction.

I wouldn't say that warrants a nuclear strike against another nuclear armed nation.

A nuclear exchange would completely wipe out human civilisation in the northern hemisphere. The US, China, European nations etc all annihilated forever.

Not worth the risk.

Is it fair to assume the current Japanese defence force (the SDF) wouldn't cut it in terms of providing any meaningful support to Taiwan and they need to rapidly re-arm?
Not many armies could cut it facing chinese forces nowdays. Their "shine within yourself" policy works very well and us westerners aren't really aware of what they can do.
The US could (and France of course but we don't feel like it). Others would have a very bad time.

I suppose India might cut it too, but only if the engagement was played the usual way, sticks vs sticks at the tibetan border.

Haven't heard of this war, is America involved? What has happened? Taiwan has struggled for years with this troubling china border thing…
There's no border between mainland China and Taiwan because Taiwan is an island. It's over 100 miles away from the coast so it's not super close either. When the communists took over China, the legit Chinese government of that time fled to Taiwan (which was always a Chinese island). The communists were never able to take back the island for a few reasons. So technically Taiwan is the "legit" China, which is why its official name is Republic of China, as opposed to the CCP-ruled mainland which is officially called People's Republic of China.

And yes the US is involved since they played a major part in the protection of Taiwan after the Korean War broke out. The US is also obligated to protect Japan from any attack thanks to a treaty signed during the Korean War and later enhanced during the Cold War. Both the US and Japan depend heavily on Taiwan for microchip production (as does the rest of the world) and so neither of them want to see it fall into CCP hands where they alone would be able to decide who gets what chips, if any.

They're a paper tiger with absolutely zero wartime experience. Half the army would fold, and they're not prepared for a world stage war which is why they manufacture non-stop saber rattling.

That is a very dangerous bet you make, no western country would take it, rightly so.

More escalation

This is scary.
Everyone knows taiwan is infinitely more strategic than HK, which is just a remnant of western colonization, and if xi wants it's gonna be hard to stop him, if we don't want a full out USA/China war
the legit Chinese government
Chiang kai chek was a friend of the west, but that doesn't mean the ROC was anymore legit than the PRC. Like Mao, he stayed in power until his death (at 87) which is not the type of thing you want in your legit government right.
Apart from this you are absolutely right.

Bandai Namco Festival 2025 in Shanghai
Performers were singing when government orders abruptly halted the event with a "complete ban on Japanese artist performances," leading to forced cancellation → Staff then escorted everyone offstage...This feels like the end of overseas events in the Chinese-speaking world.

Japanese lady is in the right, but picking a fight against China is ... brave
China has something it never had before. A rich middle class, if the ruling party does anything too stupid and the money runs out, all those people won't go back to working the fields, they'll get rid of the people at the top.

I dont think the CCP gives a damn

We are talking about a ruling party that made a powerful figure such as Jack Ma "disappear" for a while after he criticized China in a speech.

CCP controls social media in there, so they can manipulate news to blame foreign forces in order to have national support.

They'll be fine no matter what

Japan has the 10 largest military expenditure in the world. Sure, China is much larger but we also don't really know the true state of their military and what it is capable of.
Russia also spends a lot more than Ukraine, but that hasn't exactly let them steamroll through the country.
The situation is a lot more difficult too with Taiwan, in that invading over the sea isn't quite as easy as just rolling tanks over the border.
Japan could provide a pretty big military defence should China attempt to invade Taiwan, and the west would probably be a lot more willing to help Taiwan than Ukraine if there is already a second major nation involved in the defence, not to mention the strategic value.

It would be a very difficult gamble for China, which might not even have much of a payoff other than saying you took it. But that hasn't stopped countries from making dumb decisions before.

These days with such a crazy high level of global interdependency with trade, energy, and food, I think ANY kind of disruption in that area would have CATASTROPHIC consequences for large parts of the world. Could the US ride the tsunami? Probably, especially if they muzzle the media and the bots. But Africa is hosed, SEA is hosed, even China would hosed if they can't ship in food and oil from Russian sources to make up for what they'd lose in oceanic shipping.

I'm sure there are some warhawks out there that think a 2 day missile and drone blitz could 'win' the war without much disruption in trade but I'm pretty sure WW1 and WW2 had people thinking the same thing :P

America will bend the knee to China. Almost all of our manufacturing is done there. We would be blowing off our own foot if we ever try to do anything to them. That's just the reality. They own most of our debt as well. It's also why Trump walked back the tariffs without any real concessions from China. China held all the cards. What happens to America when all manufacturing stops and China says "pay us back". There's a reason we don't recognize Taiwan as a country, officially, still. China overtook us quite a while ago and Americans haven't wisened up to that fact just yet. At the same time, China wouldn't do anything to outright jeopardize the business relationship we've cultivated, either. I think they will always just use Taiwan as a bargaining chip for whatever they feel they need in the region, and USA will back down when they ask.

Japan is second fiddle to China nowadays, USA leadership knows where the money is being made now.

You say that like trump can't wake up tomorrow and say we won't pay our debt thanks. If anything the last few years has shown how fragile this global peace (not everywhere of course) is.

They mostly make stuff isn't urgently needed.

As for the debt... well it'd be null and void if China ceased to exist. If anything removing their creditor is good for the US. And if China start it, then the US could keep its reputation as a debtor mostly intact - don't start a stupid war and we'll honour our debt.

Was gonna post that clip, too, just happened at the Bandai Namco Fest in Shanghai. Chinese authorities want to humiliate the artists that are still willing to perform in their oh so strong and confident country. Sends a great message, definitely doesn't make you look petty and full of spite.

LMAO imagine thinking this is possible in modern China where the government has absolute control of the media, social media and in fact the whole domestic Internet and also all guns are banned from civilian ownership

The CCP has more or less built the perfect modern totalitarian state and the rest of the world seems completely oblivious

Xi Jinping cold-calling President Trump out of the blue, something which literally never happens, should be proof enough that they are extremely rattled by the Japan incident. The last thing Xi wanted was to accidentally build an alliance of everybody against China regarding Taiwan and what they did was basically exactly that by trying to bully Japan

LOL I still don't know what this is supposed to accomplish

It's the petty stuff like this that will one day help lead to the collapse of the CCP. It'll build up and people will remember when they were just trying to have a good time and the CCP had a tantrum and removed that from them.

Now, it won't be the catalyst of the collapse (probably the economy nosediving), but it will help get people involved in defying the CCP.

That videos like this even manage to make it out of modern China says a lot.

I don't think anyone wants to go to war with china. Japan hasn't had much of a military since ww2 they have a defense force. But Taiwan has a treaty with the US so that is where there defense comes from. Even with the one china policy Taiwan is independent.

China acting so aggressive towards all their neighbors, including Japan, will only serve for Japan to find itself forced to abandon the limitations to it's armed forces. And the USA will gladly accept that, because on the other side it's China and the CCP.

Mate, look up their 'defence' spending.

They have also now trained twice with UK carrier groups (preparing to turn their helicopter destroyers into light carriers with F-35Bs), have been expanding their marine force for over a decade, invested in V22 Ospreys, have an advanced attack submarine design, maintain an indigenous regional satellite network, use indigenous designs for a lot of their 'defence' force, and launch rockets into space partly to maintain the ability to produce rockets for military purposes.

China is already saying taiwan is there's how much more of a escalation u need really. US just needs to declare Taiwan as there's and start pushing nukes on the island and aim them at china to the point china will have to accept defeat on this front.

Only leaks/rumors for now, but apparently miHoYo (Genshin Impact/Honkai Star Rail/Zenless Zone Zero, etc) is doing a huge reworking of it's next entire version of content (approximately 8 patches, a year worth of content) for Honkai Star Rail. The new 'planet' was supposedly Japan inspired, kind of a Neo-Tokyo area. Since all of this stuff is going on, they're actually going to delay the new area by 3-8 weeks (so far) so they can remove Japanese refences and homages.

(from a "famous" miHoYo leaker):

Nobody really knows the extent of how it was supposed to be, and what it will end up as, but the betas have all been delayed by 3-8 weeks already (for the upcoming version), which is unprecedented for the game.

It's interesting to note that miHoYo is not a state sponsored company, nor a public company, but they are still likely being pressured to make these changes. The ironic thing is that Japan is their 2nd biggest market for this game.

Good point.
You just created a reason for China to place nuclear missiles and troops in Venezuela and Cuba plus launch an preemptive attack on Taiwan.

That's not how these things works.

Ps. I've already give you guys the tip.

I do wonder how things would be today if Chang Sen-i wasn't a spy for the CIA. A Taiwan with nuclear capabilities might have been a strong enough deterrent that China could have abandoned the One China claims.

I know they have added some ships recently and other things but they haven't been doing defense spending like China has for the past 30 years. They are on the uptick since NK started shooting rockets over their heads.

Yes. Let's provoke the CCP and point nukes at them. That will certainly resolve the situation 🙄

I swear some of you just want to see the world burn.

Their defence spending increase is mostly because of China. North Korea aren't seen as a major threat.

I remember in 2017, when a crisis between Korea and China happened (due to the former deployed THAAD missile defence systems), all Korean branding was removed within two weeks from brands and restaurants. Those were Chinese-owned, but they had been riding high on pretending to be Korean. And then *poof* suddenly no more Hangul to be seen. K-Pop has also endured a soft ban since then, which is probably a good thing, the lazy reliance on the PRC market would have led to less innovation and global outreach.

Unprecedented for HSR but not for Mihoyo. The Inazuma region in Genshin Impact was also delayed quite a long time for unspecified changes, although that one came out basically exactly like Japan in the end

Inazuma ended up being delayed more than 6 months and I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened to HSR if the Chinese government mandated some pretty extensive alterations

Mihoyo makes more money from HSR than Genshin these days so internally they can't be really happy about it but they know better than to criticize their government
