$400 for a LEGO set? The brand is so not for kids anymore, I keep trying to find sets for my kid and 4+, 5+ and 6+ are absolutely barren, it gets better 7 and up. What a fucking wanking for menchildren.

400 is on the low side. :messenger_grinning_sweat: You haven't seen the 1000 dollar Death Star [slice]? :messenger_tongue:

The minifigs look like they are standing next to a museum display of the ship, they seem like they should be separated. Model of the ship, minifigs with a bridge/engineering model.

Far too expensive too.

At least you can take all the minifigs, drop them on a Harry Potter/lord of the rings/titanic set and just yell "Fuck it! Holodeck episode!"
Like a real TNG writer

I will make it so.

I am a little disappointed there isn't some type of lift away section to reveal a bridge set, but I'm sure thats coming or easy enough to MOC up.

I haven't bought a lego set in quite some time as I still have a dozen or more in boxes, as well as in bags after a move a few years back, but I'm def getting this one. Hope we get a TOS Bird of Prey and an OG Enterprise with some swappable sections to reflect TOS era vs the first few films. I doubt the market is that deep for these but a 2k piece DS9 with a little Defiant would be cool as well. They might swing Voyager, Enterprise would be iffy, and ain't nothing from Discovery gonna sell.

I almost caved, not gonna lie. But then you gotta think: for that much money, why not just buy the real deal? Like, a legit detailed scale model or something actually cool.

If it's not a Lego store exclusive, just wait.
Lego goes down 30% easy after the first few weeks.
Not these big UCS sets. They tend to double or triple in price once they sell out.

I figure Lego is pretty good with anticipating demand on sets like this, versus the little $30 sets you see at discount because they are clogging up shelves.

It was always expensive for what it was, but now it takes the absolute piss. Same for Warhammer.

It's gone full absurdity. I love Lego but when you are asking for the price of a console or new graphics card for……plastic, I just can't understand it.

The price of that NES model, vs a functioning vgc. :/

As for "not being for kids anymore", Lego goes through phases. First it was for kids, than for really nerdy kids, than cool kids, and now cool adults.

At the same 10 cents per piece as an average set it should be $360. With many minifigs + license + inflation/trade woes, yeah not surprised at the price. It's just a lot larger than the big 90's sets that were $100 (like about 4 times larger).

The difference is back then they rolled out a whole theme, which you could dabble in while working up to the big one. Now it's just one big iconic set with ALL the minifigs for $400 up front. Or, no Trek for you.

I had a knock-off Enterprise by KRE-O back in the day. It was an awful set, as most fake Lego sets are.

Speaking of Legos, I was cleaning out my storage unit today, and I have around $5k-$7k new-in-box sets I took out of there (based off of recent sold listings on ebay).

I really gotta get off my ass and sell these. I have a brand new authentic Mr Gold figure I gotta sell, too. The last one sold on ebay for $8k, and the one before sold for $10k.

Maybe I'll sell it when the PS6 comes out lol.

Would have bought it but the only angle I would be able to see it from is underneath and the bottom of the sourcer is shite.

These curved, rounded, smooth shapes are not lego strong points. The more angular star wars ships fit the technology much better.

But it's Trek, and FINALLY a good sized ship with bricks that will actually work.

They could have partially hidden the angular lines by putting the missing phaser strip on the bottom. A couple of windows stickers would have also gone a long way in making it look a lot better.

Also the random orange bits also look weird, I know they are trying to replicate the transporter emitters and lifeboats but they failed.

You sure about that statement?

As a star trek fan, I ain't paying that. Lego prices are ridiculous. As someone stated, thats the price of a vid card, hell I got my Legion Go around that price.

I can't see there being much interest for a Lego Star Trek Discovery ship. Probably not many who want STD in their Lego.

With the set launching yesterday/today, how many picked it up/ordered?

I did for the following reason:
TNG was and still is my all-time favorite Star Trek
This is the first official Star Trek set
The GWP looks great and comes with an exclusive Ensign Ro figure (which will probably make the GWP more valuable than the main set).
And it all together looks like an amazing build.

LEGO expertly monetizes nostalgia. While their prices are often debated, nerds are consistently willing to pay a premium. The next logical and highly anticipated frontier for the company is undoubtedly anime.

I picked it up. Then went to bed. Probably will be busy today at the local Lego store too.

I think it is overpriced but man I like Star Trek.

They are the most profitable toy company in the world for a reason.

Really cool but the price of this is insane, $500 CAD for Lego is just a non-starter unfortunately. I hope they come out with some smaller sets so us broke-ass normies can have something cool too.

If lego doesn't shift it's strategy it might be in trouble in the future. They seem to have shifted from kids to adults because it's where the money is. The thing is, this adults who are buying this 400 dolars sets are the kids from the 80s and 90s whio had lego. This kids from the 00 might not exist 20 years from now.

They still have a lot of sets for pretty cheap. My kids help me build and have sets of their own. So while these high dollar UCS type sets get the headlines, they are just a portion of their business. Good thing about lego is they are infinitely resellable/recyclable. Never need to throw one away, the bricks have inherent value regardless of set.

The licensing fees are getting out of hand, especially with Starwars. I mainly pickup space/vehicles, but to reiterate what you were saying, I love Stsr trek and the first offical set being the NCC-1701, I had get get it.
I got it day 1 because Lego has Fomo down and the Ensign Ro mini fig/shuttle is probably going to end up reselling a big chunk of the initial price.
The aquarium shows that price way higher than it should be. They also made a standard component (Salt water filter) locked behind a GWP.

They almost went under in the 90s. Bionicles pulled them out. However, i agree that a lot of kids/parents are getting priced out and marketing prices are geared towards 70/80/90s adults who grew up with lego, but couldnt get the big sets back then. Some of its pretty cool, and the level of engineering behind it is pretty amazing

My kids know I like Lego. My kids won't play with theirs. Part of it is iPads. That is what they want to play with.

An ipad that had to be assembled each day from small pieces and then fragments into a new puzzle each night......damn that would be cool. Make those little shits earn their screen time :P

Yea, I got my nephew the McLaren P1 (he's into cars), what i thought the reaction was going to be and what it was, were completely different. He was way more interested in his iphone. But I guess thats the life of an early teen these days

I was reading that Lego mis-printed the gold plaque on the Initial Enterprise run. Instead of "To go boldly" the sticker states: "To go boldy" They are offering people who purchased the opportunity to order the corrected print.
However, for any Lego collector/investors, the sticker misprint will more than likely increase the value of the set.
So, do you hold off on opening or build anyways? ** they changed where no man to no one, but not sure if that matters to anyone**
