Nintendo locks background music for empty open world in Metroid Prime 4 behind amiibo paywall

So all kids toys prey on kids (lol) and those that don't even unlock game content and are just the plastic hunks are even more scummy for offering less, huh. Since when do micro transactions not slide, they're huge in this industry from every company, pretty much the norm and standard. Also often even worse in that you have to roll for random rewards you paid for rather than know exactly what you're getting when you buy it. And no forever toy to go with it after the digital goods' inevitable end of service! Anyway, again, welcome to 2014 mate, glad they let you out of your cage/room/cell.
Imagine accepting such shitty tactics only because the industry made you accept them as the standard.

Then imagine defending said shitty tactics. Only because you got used being a sucker.

Congratulations, you won the corporate shill award!

I acknowledged they are a standard, not whether they're good or not, if you don't see they've become standard then you're in denial. And most people complaining here haven't complained about DLC, I merely discussed the comparison given, not whether they're inherently good but if they "slide".

I already prefaced I don't have any amiibos or compatible Nintendo systems, please start making sense in your so called conversation attempts now you've unblocked me again after I've been living rent free in your head, getting private messages about being blocked etc. like I cared to ask about it.

The designers made the game with music in the desert area. This was how the people who made the game wanted the game to be.

Then someone thought "hey, wouldn't it be awesome if we could REMOVE something from the game you just made and sell it for additional money?"

And so they did.

Fuck them, honestly.
I think you might be misinterpreting the "feature".

There is an ambient track for the desert section specifically.

The amiibo only gives you the option to play tracks from other sections of the game. Like, say, the music that plays in the forest area etc. instead.

It doesn't add/unlock any new music.

Nice edit. I guess you have no arguments left so you though to use this card now. You should have waited for a better time because nobody else cares about that in this thread.

Discuss what? You defend an obvious shitty tactic for no reason other than "it's the standard". Is there more nuance in that take? Feel free to express it.

I responded to saying Nintendo gets a free pass when DLC doesn't by stating that DLC does too to the point it's the industry standard nowadays and you responded with ad hominem about how I love/defend/buy it when I already said I don't because you obviously have no point against facts. I even gave a cheat to enjoy music without giving Nintendo a dime. I don't stash posts for later strategic use or whatever you recommend, I just noticed you unblocked me because you engaged in conversation so I made a remark, you don't live rent free in my head as I apparently do in yours🤷‍♂️

That's been the point of amiibos since 2014, to unlock extra/late content via NFC, otherwise they'd just be figurines (which is still the main point I guess). The specifics for these were also announced months ago, and they're also already released before the game, where have you all been?

It's also a reward for 100%ing the desert (cue complains about that I guess, because you want it earlier, not later, even though without the amiibo they'd likely never make it available early to begin with but nah, we'll twist this into the amiibo unlocks being the intended vanilla experience).

Hey guyz, I got a secret cheat for you to actually enjoy better features than the amiibos give, shhhh, don't tell Nintendo or they will send their ninjas to come for me too. Put some music on your phone or whatever folks, you can even put music that's not available even with the unlocks 🤫

I've only really wanted the woolly amiibo(s) without even having any compatible Nintendo things.
I couldn't find any of them here though, sucks. They made a big one too but I don't find it as cute.
Don't be jelly nkafaro, you're cute too, probably, to someone.

This is beyond pathetic.

This is Nintendo.

They want to sell fans a plastic, empty replica of the Virtual Boy for 100 sheets.

They've introduced variable pricing for their first party games.

They do all of this because they know their fans will pay it. No questions asked either.

So to get this straight:

- Desert area has it's own ambient music
- amiibo let's you change tracks on the bike
- music is unlockable through gameplay

That right?
Sounds about right but some don't want unlocks for 100%ing anything because it's pointless to get anything after you've exhausted a game and also now pretend they know Samus fiddling with a soundtrack radio or album on her alien bike was such an in-theme atmospheric feature intended to be there from the start that they only locked it behind the amiibo/100% just to sell that (never mind how easy it is to spoof the NFCs and yet they still sell out so clearly it is the toy most of the buyers want, hell I even said I eyed one of those without even having any Nintendo systems myself, lol). We can imagine the alien bike having a radio shown in the early game reveals results: "omg, what is this, did they really try to copy GTA cars in muh isolated game, the npcs weren't enough now we also have in-game soundtrack albums breaking the 4th wall, what is wrong with Nintendo, Prime 4 SUX" 🤷‍♂️

I support Nintendo doing this simply because of how much it tilts some of u lol

I haven't played the game myself, i'm responding to what i read from other posts and articles.

And what i read felt like what i described. If the posts/articles are wrong, then i'm wrong.

Though all the footage i seen from that area feels like something is missing. Even in BOTW, when you ride the horse/bike in the mostly ambient open world, the music changes to also reflect the change of pace.

If the Dark Souls-esque audio style is what they were after in this area, i withdraw my "fuck them" statement to the devs.

I still think they did a bad job in this game though, don't get me wrong!

I don't stash posts for later strategic use or whatever you're going on about this time mate, I only just noticed you unblocked me because you engaged in conversation so I made the remark now, not leaving it for later use, you don't live rent free in my head as I apparently do in yours, wtf?
But why even mention it in this thread? Completely off topic and has nothing to do with this discussion. To get sympathy or to make me look bad or something? You really think i only responded to your post because "i live rent free in your head"?

Yes i wanted to block you because you were annoying me (which to you it means you live rent free in my head for some reason) but then i discovered the block function in GAF doesn't really help like it does in other sites like, say, Reddit so there was no point to it in the end. I humbly appologise in front of all other posters here that i asked you about it in a private message, i thought that you could maybe be able to provide me some useful information about how it works since you were the only one here i was trying to block.

Blocking you doesn't mean i hate you buddy. Not getting along with someone doesn't mean it's hostile. IMO.

Anyway, i responded because it looked like you are defending this. I don't really care who makes the post, i only care about it's content. I didn't read all the previous reply chains to get to why you are responding like this. So if you actually don't defend this then my bad.

Yeah, it's definitely waaay worse the BotW/TotK imo. What plays is mainly ambient winds. There isn't even any battle music transition when enemies appear from what I've noticed.

Makes me appreciate the sound design in BotW/TotK a lot tbh.

I would still prefer a more memorable open world music theme in BOTW, or a number of them changing randomly, but i guess i know now it could be worse.
Same.

I'm not sure what they were going for here. Maybe it's supposed to feel eerie, but it falls kind of flat imo. Just makes the already empty "open world" section fell even more empty.

Holy shit, you can't be real...

Literal defence force AND bootlicking

Allmiibo seems to be the solution against Nintendos greed. Has anyone tried that? Apparently it can emulate all Amiibos, is updateable, rechargeable and it costs around 10$ on aliexpress.

If it works, that could potentially also be the solution to play Tears of the Kingdom without constantly running out of weapons, maybe then I'll be able to finish it one day as well.

This is absolutely Misleading!

There is quite Ambient Music in the Desert. The Amiibo gives you just the Option to change the Music in the Desert. Which is absolutely fine in my Opinion :)

But as always, uninformed People make hate Threads and Headlines because they generate more Clicks ;)

Sshhh, don't bring logic here, we hating now.

One unlocks a difficulty setting that's not otherwise available in the game, the other unlocks a radio to listen to music that is all already available in the game.

One is a pretty clear "winner" to me. But that just my opinion of course.

Ok great. And no matter how many times you repeat that, we will repeat our opinion that neither is good so the degrees of which is worse are truly irrelevant. We shouldn't be having this conversation to begin with so every instance of the greedy practice should be called out, not rated and dismissed if not egregious enough to one person's standard.

Why don't we have a thread like this every single time a new Amiibo is released then?

Might be because some are worse than others, but I don't know. It's a real conundrum.

Let's not forget, Nintendo purposefully limit production of Amiibo and removes them from production as they wish. 1-2 years from now finding the key amiibo may be even more expensive or impossible.

No no no, you have a Mario avatar so you're a fanboy that can't cope with reality. Nintendo is the worst. Like fourth reich bad. Just read the thread. 🤷‍♂️

Amazing, they aren't even toys to life like Sky landers, but they continue to survive. As much as I like Nintendo, this is a another cancer on the industry. I just don't buy them myself. I wouldn't blame people for finding alternative means. Corporate greed is incredible, the world is going absolute bananas. At least the music is optional I guess?
