Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

low res + jpeg

One will have console graphics, one will also have PC graphics, thats like the most no shit sherlock prediction he could make.
99% of Sony games get ported to PC nowadays. Some with extra RT features like Spiderman 2 and Returnal. Doesnt change the underlying tech or lack thereof. Ghosts 2 even has RTGI and it looks dated as fuck compared to Software Lumen which isnt even hardware based like Ghost 2's RTGI.

The studios have just lost it. It's a collective thing too. Clearly not just one studio. It's like a virus thats infected every single studio at the company.

Betting on Crystal Dynamics working on a Amazon game against Naughty Dog lmao

Naughty dog and sony studios dissapointed this gen

Am I the only one disappointed by Control 2? The cutscenes looked next gen as fuck, I was like hello there. But then the gameplay started and it just looks mid. i wonder if its the youtube effect because im struggling to see the upgrades over Control 1, let alone AW2 which looks a generation ahead.
Disagree the gameplay looked nect gen too ...def Youtube compression

I think Insomniac still got it, Rift Apart was incredible, not just as far as stylized games go and SM2 looked very good under certain conditions, i am very optimistic about Wolverine, but yeah the rest kind of dont spark much hope in me (when they manage to show something)

They need to work on lighting and AO the most, it plays a massive role in overall visuals.

The star wars Fate of the old republic trailer run on UE5 engine and considering it's gonna release beyond 2030 it will match that Trailer on terms of graphics considering it have huge chance to switch to UE6, the studio behind this game just formed since 5 months

It has more chances of never releasing if we are being honest

Without a doubt! If the studio was formed just 5 months ago, aside from a few models and storyboards they probably don't have anything tangible. If star wars games are known for anything, it's getting cancelled.

Typically I'd say something like - I hope to see this one day, but until we see some actual gameplay from this title we are all better off assuming it's already been cancelled.

Thoughts on Lara's character model in Atlantis? I love how pretty she looks here. Is it next gen compared to ND or GG models? Perhaps not. But i like it.
I think it's more than decent; still doesn't resemble her classic one, talking about facial features.
Just as models and textures, I don't think it's better than the best ones, but overall it might? In terms of lighting IMO definitely is.

I especially like this one, YT quality and all, but you can see amazing lighting and how good and accurate it makes the color of the skin look, it looks quite photorealistic.

I also like these, the lighting here is also amazing, clearly some GI and light bounce, but if all these are just cutscenes or it could look the same during gameplay, that's another story.

There are members on this forum that think the new lara is equally uglified and not faithful to her original beauty queen standards.

I call these people... stupid.

Do you understand that people here in this forum are complaining about the design in Catalyst and not the one SlimySnake SlimySnake posted?

In Atlantis she looks great, the character design is loyal to her original design which is this one btw and not the in-game model.

Those posting in-game models from a ps1 gameplay to counter argument the complaints are doing so in bad faith because that's obviously not the design we have in mind

Its absolutely ridiculous to have to explain the obvious but here we are.

Man Leon's character model looks a generation ahead of the chick's face. Maybe its the lack of wrinkles and facial hair, but to me the skin shaders are way more plasticky on Grace.
The gaming feedback loop conundrum. Gamers say they don't want anything that deviates from most status quos of beauty.

Thus, female protagonist faces will usually remain more smoother, under 35 years old, and doll-like. This goes 2x for Japanese games.

And it's not just for age too. Even now people are saying in this very thread how much better they think young Lara looks compared to the woman from Intergalactic and since that game's reveal no one has ever really commented on something like the shaved hair tech on display.

No Law should really put to rest all of the worries about Cyberpunk 2 switching to UE5. And remember that Cyberpunk 2's team size, budget and technical expertise will dwarf Neon Giant's.

Once again, every time an amazing looking game is announced, all we have to do is look at the engine behind it:

Unreal Engine 5

Wait till January when they reveal Prince of Persia. Likely built on the latest version of the Anvil Engine according to ubisoft.

AC4 Black Flags remake is also due next year. Which is built on the Anvil engine.

Then you have Far Cry 7 on the Snowdrop engine which should be getting revealed soon as well. Tom Henderson has seen it and was very impressed by the graphics.

Snowdrop and Anvil can go toe to toe with UE5. Just need more games which are all coming next year. AC Hex is actually supposed to be a more linear game so it might even look better than these open world games.

Finished the game and needed around 26 hours for all the main and sidequests. Pretty solid, I would rate it a 8 out of 10.

You are not the only one, as soon as cinematic ended and they showed gameplay. There was a HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGE downgrade. looked WORSE than AW2.

Aw2 looks amazing on PC so its just youtube
It had nothing to do with youtube.

I am just going to post what i just posted in the DF thread. I am flabbergasted. Everything ive said about these morons this year was true. They have no fucking idea wtf they are talking about. This is insulting to every dev out there.

They have officially gone full retard. I thought picking Indiana Jones over Hellblade 2 last year was retarded but Doom over AC Shadows? DOOM?

And thats not even the worst part. John goes on this big speech trying to justify inclusion of his retarded 2D games and Switch games, and im like ok, you want to give them honorable mentions because of art design or whatever hardware they were built on, fine. But then they left out literally the best Art Direction winner at the TGA Expedition 33. They leave out South of Midnight, one of the most original and beautiful looking games of the year. They leave out Kingdom Come 2, arguably the most beautiful open world created this year.

Like what the fuck are these guys even doing? Are they trying to be edge like Edge and just make retarded choices every year? Or are they really this fucking stupid. NO Doom and AC Shadows are NOT equal just because both do virtualized geometry and hardware RT. There is more to graphics than fucking feature checklists. Fucking Ghosts 2 has RTGI, does that mean the lighting in both AC shadows and Doom are the same? Of course not. And there is a reason why Doom is running at 60 fps on consoles with RTGI, it looks last gen as fuck. Put it next to Eternal and you wont be able to tell the difference you fucking buffoons.

Retarded Foundry.

I really think the lighting outdoors looks ugly. It has this really stark and jarring look outdoors that makes it very unpleasent. But then you have the interiors which look phenomenal thanks to RTGI, and finally that character model just looks awful. Very uneven game that shouldnt have been on the DF top ten list over much more pleasing games like Outer Worlds 2.

Do you think it'll get downgraded? It looks too good. 😣
Yes. everything gets downgraded.

but it could also get upgraded if nvidia decides to invests and sends their engineers to implement path tracing.

also depends on what version of UE5 they are using. some of the more recent versions are upto 50% more performant than launch UE5 versions.

24 people you say !? Damn, here goes my hope for a CP2077 clone.
yep. keep your expectations low in terms of scale. its not going for that scope.

here is an interview with the devs earlier this year.

Much inspiration for the game will be drawn from comics, books, music, and film. However, the studio stressed that, although the game will incorporate some tropes from the Cyberpunk genre, it is not beholden to any specific source. This is their world; they get to choose how to build it and tell its story. Undoubtedly, with the words used to describe what the game is so far, many may already think this is going to be a Cyberpunk 2077 clone of sorts. We asked the studio to comment on this, and they quickly shot down the comparisons, describing this project as a game that doesn't exist yet, which is why they're making it, as it's the kind of game they believe should exist.

A dream project, one that Krafton, which acquired Neon Giant in 2022, fully believes in. Neon Giant explained to us that, despite being under the wing of a much larger company, it retains creative control over its projects. Only staff from Neon Giants are working on developing their games. In many ways, the independent mindset they previously had remains, allowing them to navigate development their way. A system the studio believes will help them make better and more fun games, something we'll hopefully see in action once Project Impact is ready to be shown.

As I mentioned before, Project Impact is fairly early in development, with over 24 employees (which doesn't strictly mean developers) at Neon Giant working on the title, double of what they had when they shipped The Ascent. There's no target release window or confirmed platforms at this time.

My guess is that its a smaller world that you only explore on foot. It looks far more dense than Cyberpunk's world. They went into their vision of the world in an IGN interview earlier this week.

IGN: The Ascent was incredibly detailed. Based on the trailer for No Law, you're doing the same thing here.

Tor Frick:
Yeah, for sure. I think that's something we definitely wanted to push a lot in this game. We want the fidelity to be extremely high and the density to be extremely high. For us it's more important to have density than to have size. And that goes for everything, not just art assets but the game itself. We want to make something that feels intimate, both the small spaces you're in but also… it isn't a sprawling thing. It's a very intimate detail and high density world and game.

There is a day night setting. The NPCs shown will definitely be there.

So it's not that we are rehashing The Ascent's world but now in first-person. It's a completely new setting. I think it's a very exciting setting. Hopefully players will agree when the game is out! But it's a lot of fun to just explore and immerse yourself in. So we've really gone to town with that one. So for example, we do the things you'd expect, we do have day night cycles, weather, living world, all of that. So you really can immerse yourself in the city and walk around and be amazed with the distinct difference of it being on a park street at night or maybe in a more lush, calmer area in the daytime, except that they're two different worlds but everything's hosted in this city.

TLDR: It is going to be much more ambitious in terms of interactivity and density. just dont expect cyberpunk 2.

Man, Gang of Dragon really looks like what a proper current-gen Yakuza/Like a Dragon should look like (at least in the cut-scenes). It's a bummer the series barely evolved graphically since Yakuza 6, which is 9 years old. Even Stranger Than Heaven looks like an incremental jump and it's supposed to be RGG next big game.

I'm surprised no mention of 33. If the game is not the best looking technically, it had great art direction going for it. Should definitely be in a honourable mention. Also no mention of KCD2. I haven't played it but it looks really good from what I've seen.

Doom at number 1 is hilarious to me. Maybe that's just me but, if there's a game that impressed me the least this year, it's Doom.
Doom isn't even the worst offender, although, yeah, it's not better than Shadows, no way.

They put Earthion and Nintendo games there and left Kingdom Come, I mean, ok, you want some diversity or console specific games, sure. Put Hades then or Silksong, the art style of those games is IMO better.
They should know better and not make a mish-mash top list based on art style, stylized games and path tracing, you can't compare these, they should have made separate specific lists.

For me is more like Sleeping Dogs than Yakuza.
