Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Only recently got around to playing MGS Delta and wow that is easily one of the best looking games this generation no? I'm playing with hardware lumen and enhanced material settings modded in and it looks incredibly CG like, really what I was hoping for visually this gen. Insane model detail and lighting quality. I'll have to post some screens soon.
Please do. I'm playing it on ultra settings unmodded, and I'm not seeing what others are seeing in it. It looks good but not Cyberpunk with PT good. Maybe I'm focused on lighting, and I saw a couple scenes where objects weren't even casting shadows.

I was CPU bound last night when turning on hardware lumen in Outer worlds and had to disable it. No issues in Avowed, MGS Delta and other UE5 games. Good to see this because there is no way i can upgrade my CPU anytime soon with RAM prices the way they are and the new CPU/mobo combos not supporting DDR4 RAM that i currently have.

The character/dinosaur models, the camera work, the foliage in the background. i love everything about this.

its still very gamey and not photorealistic like the matrix awakens demo or Marvel 1943, but still very impressive. This would be dismissed as a CG bullshot ten years ago.

Wuchang is such a weird ue5 game. It is beautiful but feels half baked at the same time. The asset quality is really high so lots of cool looking rocks, pebbles, wooden huts, and logs, and even the trees look great, but it feels like it's missing something. The trees maybe lacking self shadowing. They just kind of stand out. It still looks beautiful but just not up there with wukong.

The lighting is great too. I am really curious to compare it to ghosts because while it may not be ac shadows quality, i feel like it looks way more next gen with ghosts' lighting.

The performance is really bad. Lots of random stutters and frame pacing issues. I'm maxing it out so maybe i will try turning some settings down. Did not have this issue in any other ue5 game aside from those early 2023 ones like immortals and lords of the fallen.

I don't know. Its definitely beautiful so if you guys ever get gamepass, give it a shot.

This is awesome. It's like a free upgrade for future UE5 games.

If you are near one micro center is doing mobo/cpu/ram combo bundles again with pre-shortage ram prices (or close to in worst case scenarios) but you might not get the motherboard and/or cpu you really want and they wont substitute but its the only way to get ram at pre-shortage price*. All the NY locations hoarded RAM for that reason it seems. Was sketched out last month when they removed the price tags from all kits on the display and posted a paper reading "see sales associate for purchase". Now i know why...

Oh shit. You are right. Ram bundles are back. It's still $670 so $170 for the Ram since last month it was $500 for the 9800x3d bundle without the Ram but i guess it could be worse.

Thanks for the tip. I just might pull the trigger.

The lighting in some of these environments looks to be a generation ahead. The first shot with the massive t rex breaking in through the window looks better than most movie CGI nowadays.

Told you wuchang was kinda nice.

Samson devs released a FAQ with some new screenshots and gifs. Built on UE5. I think it will impress a lot of people when it comes out just like most UE5 games that dont show well on youtube. The fact that its only $25 is insane too. Aiming for an early 2026 release so we should have it sooner rather than later. Made by ex-avalanche guys iirc.

Speaking of UE5 games that dont show well on youtube. While Wuchang firmly sits in the mid tier UE5 category, I have to stop every few minutes just to see the insane amount of detail on the ground or random bricks and rocks. It's insane how rounded and individually modeled every single brick, leaf, and wooden plank feels. you just dont see that in sony games. i really wish i wasnt a graphics whore because i dont even like the game but i keep playing it just for the visuals.

The Expanse is another UE5 game made by ex-Bioware devs.
The Expanse is from Owlcat, idk if they have ex-Bioware devs on the crew, but Exodus is supposedly the ex-Bioware one, targeting 2027 at the earliest.
Gonna be a good few years for sci-fi rpg fans and i am gonna have a lot of trouble telling these 2 apart.

It is crazy there have been no AAA games this generation where you drive in a city like that. No Watch Dogs, Mafia games, Sleeping Dogs, ect.

i noticed it last gen. sucks that it still hasnt changed. So tired of every open world games set in the wilderness.

if you are craving it, try the Mafia Remake. Very good looking late gen game and the city looks really good. Overshadowed by Cyberpunk that year but definitely a looker in its own right.

Because gamers would expect the level of AI, reactivity and physics of GTA games, which no other devs can afford to do. And if they do less, they face an immense backlash (see Cyberpunk, which was the last game to really try)

Otherwise didn't Mindseye have a traffic/ car crashes simulation as well ?

It's a fair point. GTA 5 is still the best open world game to drive around and cause chaos. Crazy thing to say about a game that is over 12 years old

Yeah the lighting and vibe still holding up well for a ps4 era game , just the asset quality is kinda mid by 2020 standards and lod of environments are very very bad. Still, a big improvement over the mess of what they did in mafia 3 tho

In terms of npcs animations, sure, in term of chaos you can provoke, watch dogs 2 is the king.

You can literally call criminals or police on anyone and see the chaos unfold, or hack cars and make them do what you want, you can do some pretty funny shit in that game with the hacking

Too bad their animations systems suck compared to rockstar euphoria so every gunfight, car run over or shooting doesn't look or feel as good even if gta5 has the worst rendition of euphoria out of any rockstar game.

everything we said about ND in this thread turned out to be true. game in development hell. Studio is disarray as neil went partying with hollywood stars for five years. no wonder the fake trailer looked so bad. they probably had nothing at that point.

MS studios are more or less doing the same
they are gonna shove their cross-gen games down our throat for years past their next-gen machine's launch

After all, it's the 20th anniversary of the series, and Gears of War: E-Day is the studio's "most ambitious game yet.
" It's "entirely built from scratch in Unreal Engine 5" to feel like the Gears that everyone knows and loves while playing "like new."

This looks like a reincarnation of the hobo Sam Fisher version of Splinter Cell Conviction.

Wow the new Avatar dlc seems like have a very great promise juding by the opening sections

lol wtf is going on in these last two shots.
Idk I often encounter these lod completely fuck up for no reason situations in this game regardless of my hardware and systems. The forest section is kinda alright, the issues are still there but not that distracting ; the plain and rocky area are the worst offenders since you don't have many huge trees to cover up the distant view and surrounding assets anymore , then they totally give up trying with lowest detail lods throwing all over the map, been act like this since the very beginning🤷‍♂️

yeah, the final area is completely unfinished. and the rocky mountain areas are also kinda bad, but ive never seen anything as bad as that final screenshot. where is that area exactly? i want to visit it lol

Outer Worlds 2's first opening area looks like absolute garbage. I immediately turned it off. Just ugly colors, awful LODs, terrible lighting. one of the worst fucking things ive ever seen. The Avowed opening area looked so much better. Just bizarre.

Indoors its better. But the purple lighting everywhere just sucks.

It's around the border of the Cloud forest and Upper plains, west side of this RDA whatever fort thing , you will find lots of these huge rock pillars scattering in this area

Did ubisoft break just about everything with the dlc?

Never seen a game degrade this much with updates. If i didnt know better id assume this was their prior game, this is a helluva achievement.

It's using nanite and has barely any pop in.

Also, pretty good lighting most of the time.

I have a feeling you haven't played far yet, there are some good looking areas, but i agree, the maps and the artstyle is mostly disappointing. Avowed looks better overall.
Yeah still the very first open world area after the first prologue. I couldn't tell if this game had nanite because that area looks like it's using ps3 assets.

Probably a good thing. Next year there is lot of competition and Wolverine is also releasing in 2026. I liked the cutsence of Intergalactic , so ND still has some talent left and gfx wise I think it will be fine even if behind top tier UE5 games. I wonder how many FT employees they still have, they have not made any games for ages ? This will be important game for their future.

Hows the game tho? I want to play an rpg during the holidays
