awesome. thanks i will check it out.

Did ubisoft break just about everything with the dlc?

Never seen a game degrade this much with updates. If i didnt know better id assume this was their prior game, this is a helluva achievement.
Yep. they fucked it up. Just tried it and the LOD pop-in even at max settings on a 16GB card is atrocious. It literally loads the lowest LOD models and then switches abruptly to the highest LOD model as you get closer. It was a lot more graceful just last week when i was playing the third person camera and got hooked into the game for a few days.

Combine with the fact that those northern areas never looked good even when the LOD system wasnt completely broken, and its arguably the worst looking game out there right now. Just atrocious.

The Expanse is from Owlcat, idk if they have ex-Bioware devs on the crew, but Exodus is supposedly the ex-Bioware one, targeting 2027 at the earliest.
Gonna be a good few years for sci-fi rpg fans and i am gonna have a lot of trouble telling these 2 apart.

Shit, I don't know why I thought Exodus was 2026

Well from my experience 24gb and 32gb card are literally the same deal here so...it's just incompetences being incompetences as usual🙃

Yeah it's like their devs have lost the ability to do the basic lod work when it coming to handle terrain assets. AC games are still suffering from the same problem , Shadows handled it better to some extent but still far from perfect like you can still notice many instances when terrains barely 300m away (or even closer )are completely lacking basic detail while those buidlings and trees staying pretty fine, and noticing distant shadows becoming pixelated low quality as well when the fogs failed to cover them up. Hey at least none of them are reaching Avatar level of hopeless...

Too bad there is no way to find it out now unless someone actually have the 1.0 unpatched console version would bother with this. I only stays in the Kinglor forest area dring launch period before gave it up till late March, only got these treatments since then

no i played the game for a good 30-40 hours. i know exactly whats bugged. the textures on those massive tree logs are missing until you get close. the grass in your last screenshot is also completely missing. that was not the case.

now the overall look of these levels which are basically in the third area of the game always looked like this. i have no idea why but it always looked very bad compared to the first two areas in the game. so aside from those missing textures, the game always looked like that in those areas.

This is the KZSF moment for me this gen. Just an incredible amount of detail. The opening to Avatar also gave me that holy shit next gen is here feeling, but this urban city has more in like with that amazing KZSF reveal.

Been playing some gamepass games and man I feel for Phil Spencer. He's given his devs 5 years to make sequels. Given them a great engine to push the visuals. and they have to a certain extent. But his developers have let him down in one way or another by making boring, tedious, mid tier garbage.

South of Midnight - 7 year dev time. Good looking art style. But the actual gameplay? literally from the ps2 era. its mostly walking with some tedious combat thrown in but overall its just so boring i feel zero urge to play it.

Outer Worlds 2 - starts off with an incredible looking CG video. Very funny. Great characters. im like lets fucking go. But then its just the same WRPG shit we've been playing for the last 30 years. mute protagonist. characters that dont emote. zero cutscenes. let alone the caliber of the cutscenes we saw in the intro. Again, where is the agency? Why not put your best foot forward. Show us some incredible setpiece or level. Hook us in from the beginning?

Keeper - After 20 minutes of pressing up, i gave up and quit the game. I really dont understand this. If you want to make an indie game, go be indie. Dont waste Microsoft's time and money on this dumb shit. Hellbalde 2 was the same. Like they got the visuals right, but there is no game there.

Keeper is clearly trying to go for something like Ico. Ico had gameplay within the first few minutes. You werent just pressing up. You were constantly solving problems. The last Guardian's first scene has you do more stuff than i did in the first 30 minutes of keeper and South of midnight. indie doesnt mean you get to get away with gameplay.

I shit on DS2 for feeling like DLC and it does, but the intro is absolutely sublime despite you literally walking for like five to ten minutes. There is danger of you falling, you are pressing all kinds of different buttons. The soundtrack by Woodkid makes you think you are playing the greatest movie of all time. And again, this is a walking simulator with no action like say Uncharted or GOW.

These MS studios just take the easy way out. Obsidian making the same shit they've been making for two decades. Clearly they want to make great looking cutscenes or they wouldnt have hired a CG studio to make that intro. Well, you had six fucking years to make outer worlds 2. Expedition 33 devs made insane looking cutscenes using iphones in their hallway. I highly doubt Phil wanted these boring, mid tier, fake games when he acquired these studios. And I am extremely sad that none of these studios are even close to what Team Ico did in 2001 with Ico, let alone SOTC or TLG. Or what Sony was doing in the PS3 era. or What kojima was doing in the PS2 era.

P.S tried going back to Indiana Jones. My god, so boring. Someone fucking put me out of my misery. this is not how you make an action adventure game. they actually did have a couple of cool setpieces but the game crawls to a half after that. Is it really hard to get something like Tomb Raider or Uncharted from an indy game?

Went back to Ascent and wow, the ray tracing update adds so much. The game already looked great in 2021 with some great SSR reflections, but ray tracing just makes them pop so much more. i feel like reflections are everywhere now.

In terms of npcs animations, sure, in term of chaos you can provoke, watch dogs 2 is the king.

You can literally call criminals or police on anyone and see the chaos unfold, or hack cars and make them do what you want, you can do some pretty funny shit in that game with the hacking

Too bad their animations systems suck compared to rockstar euphoria so every gunfight, car run over or shooting doesn't look or feel as good even if gta5 has the worst rendition of euphoria out of any rockstar game.
Watch Dogs 2 is very underrated for world systems, very impressive.

Bro Ubisoft did this with AC Mirage too ....it looks abd feels awful after latest update now. They have the most fragile code andbI think those might be two different engines.

Forbidden west maxed out on pc with a PROPER tv\hdr still looks fucking incredible most of the times, people are fucking crazy if they think yotei looks better, absolutely fucking crazy.

Everytime i'm mad that sony doesn't upgrade the textures in his pc ports and everytime i'm flabbergasted at how much sharp and detailed the same game is on pc, it was the same with days gone, textures are fucking sharp on pc even if they are virtually the same as the console version.

Replaying some shit in the new oled and wow when hdr hit, it fucking hit...

They have the initial idea right but the execution is not perfect, 9 out of 10 times the npcs reaction to the chaos are absolutely random.

The fact that with the hacking smartphone you are basically a god, is way too much to handle for simple ncps scripts.

And of course their animation system lack the precision and weight of a rockstar game so everything from npcs punching or shooting each others to running people over with a car is nowhere near as satysfing to watch, like light years away...

Hopefully gta6 is gonna be a jump in npcs reactions and ai because causing chaos and npcs not reacting properly, erase half of the fun.
But i would love if gta6 had the hacking mechanics of wd2, some of them are beyond funny to use.

Apparently im gay for gymwolf and Msamy is gay for me.

And I need to rethink my life choices because i spend way too much time in this thread.

We know GymWolf GymWolf is gay but I didn't know SlimySnake was gay too although that explain their unusual relationship.

There are so many homosexuals in GAF man

What the?! I didn't know The Ascent got RT update. I bought it and added my backlog long time ago but maybe I should play it. Then again I had already planned my next game.

I'm curious now and I'll try to play it as soon as I got time.

Its rt shadows, rt reflections and rt AO. But reflections make the biggest difference. They are everywhere.

With the Ascent, they already proved that they were masters of adding the type of verticality to maps and level design that felt organic and awe-inspiring, it added authenticity and identity to each area
Sometimes you would descend so much that the rain wouldn't even reach the lower levels, except maybe sporadically
I absolutely cannot wait to see what they are going to do next

Did the console versions get this update too?

SSR when developers have full control over the camera is not exactly a bad use of tech.

it's still noisy and due to the angled camera there will still be moments where an object blocks something and creates holes.

but, ignoring that... didn't that game have RT since launch? I remember playing it for an hour or so, and I could swear it had RT reflections day 1

Yeah it had RT from day one but was also stuttering with it turned on. I don't know how it behaves now.

They showing this game off every month. Feels like i played it already... Just stfu, work on it and release when its ready
lol i get it. they've been showing this game since 2020. at some point, there is too much exposure. that said, id rather have this then the top secret way ND handles their games.

Did the console versions get this update too?
not sure. ive only played the PC version.

I'll try things that don't exist for 200 Alex!
SSR is great in this game. When i started the game, I had to double check if my ray tracing effects were already turned on because the puddle reflections looked excellent. RT reflections add so much more though. they touch other metallic objects, they enhance the puddles with more accurate reflections, and give a lot of the floor tiles reflections that werent there before.

my biggest issue with SSR is the stupid occlusion issues around the character models. it didnt effect FPS games but third person games with SSR really started to get on my nerves this gen. i do not remember it being this bad last gen where the worst thing i would notice was reflections disappearing if i looked down on the water.

my guess is that some devs just handled them poorly which is why you saw all those noisy, blurry and terrible looking reflections. Its gotten even worse this gen since they can now always fall back on RT. Callisto literally has no fallback reflections in many areas. But the great devs used SSR to great effect. Games like HFW, TLOU2, and RDR2 had great SSR reflections with no halo effects around character models or other visual oddities. It was a great compromise solution for last gen hardware that didnt have RT features. There is no going back though. I fucking love RT reflections.

So yeah, Lazy devs be lazy.

Stuttering is still there but i locked it to 60 fps and its fine now. basically my 5080 can run the non RT version at 120 fps (my tv's max refresh rate) with like 30% of the GPU unused. With RT on it hovers around 90-100 fps but the stuttering is bad. Ive seen this in UE4 games whenever you turn on RT. its more of a CPU related bottleneck since RT was kinda just slapped on in UE4. Jedi Survivor still has those stutters. But newer CPUs should not have this stutter. My CPU actually cant do path tracing in Wukong and hardware lumen in Outer Worlds 2 due to CPU bottlenecks.

SlimySnake SlimySnake , cross this one off your March list
