Been gaming since 1982, I'm a dinosaur yes, but I been thru all the eras and while there were some years that were just pinnacle gaming eras I still find myself absolutely never without enjoyment to play. The early 2000s were incredible, mid 2000s but to keep it a bit closer in time line the last 5 to 10 years I think has just been nonstop and I'm constantly enjoying myself.

Doom and gloom gaming posts are never anything new, dating back to the early VN and IGN board days etc and all I know is year in and year out I spend a fortune on games and been doing so since the 90s.

I love to platinum games and I've done about 35 or so in recent months and I'm just loving gaming no matter what it throws at us, whether it's games like red dead 1 and 2, elden ring, Diablo 4, ghost of tsushima, souls games, ghost of yotei, outer worlds 1 and 2, fallout 4 and or it's remake, days gone, marvel rivals, battlefield which even tho 2042 wasn't amazing it became a solid game but BF4, BF1, 5 and now 6 has given me thousands upon thousands of hours, alan wake 1 and 2, control, God of wars, Indiana Jones, I could litrelly just keep going and then we're getting incredible remakes like Dragon Quest 3, 1 and 2, and pixel 2d games like terminator 2D, Shinobi and ninja gaiden, remakes like metal gear snake eater, tales of series, even games like arc raiders that people are loving, I mean I could keep going litrelly endlessly naming games and unless you're able to stop time to keep up with it all is a monstrous feat... But I love to do my best as I always have things to play, always. I listed some games that I been playing recently and platinuming, I know there's so many more that everyone could add, I don't think folks realize just truly how many games we DO get until it's on paper.

So it's why I never understand how anyone can feel there's nothing to play, there's genuinely something for everyone somewhere especially if you're a multi platform gamer... Didn't even crack into the Nintendo side of things which I personally want some form of trophies but that's just me.

46 here and always having a good time gaming, 2026 looking just as packed and can't wait for it 😎👍

Edit: Oh cant forgot E33, one of my favorite platinums to date... Just another game to show what even small teams can do

the moment you start ignoring 99% of AAA games, and look for good indies and good retro titles you haven't played,
gaming becomes actually fun again.

it's mainly the mainstream AAA stuff, that I feel like, completely ruins people's enjoyment of gaming.

Like I gotta be honest guys, Terminator 2D No Fate for instance I never would've thought say 10 15 years ago we'd get a game with that arcade goodness like this, it just makes me appreciate what we get in terms of variety these days.. The game sure maybe could've been 19.99 but it's just really fun, has those nods to Contra... Very cool game all around

And the Dragon Quest game remakes again, games I wouldn't expect 10 15 years ago and they're just perfect remakes, loving it.

Same here. I've played 55 games this year (beaten / credits rolled). Even though only 14 of them have been games released this year, I've still had a great time also replaying older stuff. It's literally the best time to be a gamer. A lot of old classics are getting revived, new games are coming out in old-dead genres, retro gaming is in great shape (even with achievements and online leaderboards now), and there's even AAA stuff coming out if that's your jam.

I'm having a good time recently, because I've plugged back into a style of game I used to enjoy a lot but I thought I was done with (Bethesda RPGs). Prior to that, though, I was in a long dry spell.

There are plenty of things to complain about critically, but overall there are far more quality games than I could ever play. It's nice having such a great selection to choose from.

Yea the remakes I'm loving because to me 20 years ago for some of these games is a long fucking time now. I think alot of those games were a head of their time but were held back due to tech, but to see some get a remake and modern update I'm all for it.. And plus a ton of those remakes it's been so long they're new again.

It's a great time to be gaming.

I enjoy a 20 yr old mmo regularly in classic wow and with ARC releasing recently, its been great
Also Guild Wars Reforged just came out!

Yea I was a big time mmo gamer, I started with UO but really fell in love with Everquest which then took me to dark age of Camelot, asherons call and then wow... I love seeing WoW and EQ still pumping out content and doing throwback servers.

I can't keep up with all the good games I want to play, but then again I'm a busy person, so if I had all the time to play all day I'd likely run out of the good ones and complain more.

Arc Raiders is one of the best games i've played since the 360 era, some lobbies are just so good with prox chat popping off, party chat was one of the worst things to happen to the 360, it slowly killed games, now political correctness has done the same, games like Fifa don't even have voice chat, like wtf, why can't i talk shit to my opponent if i want? i might as well be playing vs the CPU.

People are so scared for people to get offended in 2025, Arc has taken that full circle, shit's like prime COD lobbies, i'm so here for it.

I am drowning in games. Not enough time to play them all. They could probably stop making games and I'd never get to what I want before I die now. I need to be selective how I spend my time gaming nowadays.

For example. I was going to buy divinity original sin 2 and then I seen its 100+ hours to complete everything.

aint nobody got time for that GIF

Hell yeah dude. I've been playing a ton of Tekken and PoE2 and going through Strange Journey Redux the last month or so and it's been great. About to start KCD2 soon.

Me. Since Silksong was released i been having a blast. With some of the very best games i played this year. Silksong, then Minishoot Adventures, then Nine Sols, now Pippistrello and the Cursed Yoyo and after UNSIGHTED. So many extremely amazing games one after the other

Been on a gaming high for the last decade+, so many great games so little time. Even a rare enjoyable AAA here and there. I think the only lull I had was after squeezing every drop out of Pathfinder: WotR. Took time resetting after experiencing the best game I've ever played. But I'm so back now, having a blast.

Been playing lots of games. Been delving into sony games new and old. Mixed with PS2 sports games. Great times. My PS3 and PC have been getting wore out.

Had a few rough months lately but now that I'm back into PC gaming I'm having a blast again. Granted, I'm replaying quite a lot of older games with better framerate GFX but still... I'm fine with that.

The Analogue 3D is been such a welcome edition with me. It's been great to play local multiplayer with the family. Even the kids are like these graphics are not that bad lol. Then 4 player in the caverns of Goldeneye... I can't see anything lol.

The highs of gaming these days are very high. The lows are quite low. Probably lower than they've been in a while. But the reality is most of us have more than enough to keep us busy forever. There's so much I haven't played that I'm interested in from the last 10 or 15 years that those games alone would last me forever.

Yea dude gaming could stop tomorrow and my backlog would easily last me the rest of my life easily.. It's just a great hobby that has imo held solid.

Like I grew up with incredible music, movies, wrestling... And alot of it sucks now but gaming has held up quite well

So much stuff to play, so many amazing games.

When I see people complaining that gaming is dying or that the new games suck I am like:

Yeah, there are more great games coming out each year than I will ever have time to play. There are great games that I will absolutely miss because I have other stuff going on and even in a good week, I won't play more than say 15-20 hours (max).

Hell, I have more games in my backlog library than I will be able to play. I seriously don't understand the posts about having nothing to play when amazing games keep coming every year.

WotR was amazing game indeed, one of the best CRPGs I have ever played going back like 30 years!

You should try Rogue Trader, which I just as good if with a different vibe!

My backlog of awesome games I need to finish is forever. I will go to my grave with great games I meant to clear unfinished

Actually this is depressing, I need to redouble my efforts in 2026 to clear my backlog!

I started gaming back in 82 as well. That's when I got my Colecovision and the first game I played was Donkey Kong and then Zaxxon. Haven't really slowed down at all since then. My favorite particular time period was early in the genesis/mega drive life (when it still had heavy Japanese support). In regards to PC, early 90's too (when all games supported VGA and sound blaster). But still having a hell of a time on my PS5 and even my Series X (which has done the best out of the failed consoles I owned over the years). Doing better than the 3DO is nothing to brag about, but at least it's lasting longer than the Wii U did (or even the original Xbox). Although I fully expect to only have a ps5 by the end of this gen and maybe a steam machine if that doesn't fail horribly.

OP, yeah, old-timer here as well and it's been an amazing year. I've constantly had more games to play than time to play. Backlog is growing!

Gamepass has been firing on all cylinders lately too, started mid last year but this year in particular was nuts with Silksong, Ninja Gaiden 4, Avowed, Oblivion, DOOM, Expedition 33, The Outer Worlds 2, COD BO7, Keeper.

I'm having a surprisingly good time playing Metroid Prime 4 as well right now, was down on it at first but I'm having fun. One of my kids finally fell in love with the IP too so thanks Nintendo for that 👍

The top this year was actually Oblivion for me, not expected but it's an old favorite which I just can't stop loving and now it got a crazy update. 9.5/10, blisters and all. I'm hoping Bethesda do more games like that. I want to play Morrowind but can't deal with the old visuals today.

Also, one of my all-time nostalgia favorites was revived this year too - The Last Ninja!

Finally, this was the year I stepped over the finish line and got 100% in Elden Ring 🏆🥳
