Ninja Gaiden 4 is one of the most satisfying action games I've played. If you haven't tried, why?

Its fun from the couple hours I played of it. I look forward to buying it when it drops to $40. I just have too many games to play already. But I paid for GamePass just to try it and Black Ops7 for a month. Ended up being too busy of a month for me to sink my teeth in it but I liked it so far.

I dislike this game
Its not a ninja gaiden game
Level design is boring
Character design is dogshit
Gameplay is meh compare to og ng1 and ng2

5/10 at best

Why? Because of the extreme focus on blood, gore, dismemberment and playing in the living room. It just ain't flying here.
But I learned that you can turn it all off. So might give it a spin through Gamepass.

Want to play the older games first, and that's just Ninja Gaiden games, not including my Biblical level backlog of other games I have. Still bought it because I want to support games like it and support devs like it, but I probably won't be actually playing it until I look like this:

Razor Edge is my favorite action game ever, and I feel like I am not going to get something as good with this game. RE is not so much about stupid combos either.

I don't like the main character either.

Game just looks like a bit too much like a PG product rather than Team Ninja.

Might buy it on a big enough discount.

There is a good gameplay core, but it is not Ninja Gaiden. Easily the worst game in the series, which I didn't think would be the case considering NG3 exists.

Most disappointing purchase last year for me. After bailing, I went straight into NG1 on PC with the Black mod and had a fantastic replay of that game.

I played it until the point where you get a new weapon. But I wasn't enjoying it.

It's a problem I have with every Platinum game. There is simply too much at your disposal right from stage 1, and the game expects you to master all of it at once without even trying to introduce you to the mechanics. They think those contained tutorials in the merchant's menu are all you need to get the hang of a move and then, one minute later, you're expected to use it like it's the most basic of moves. If I'm not mistaken, just in the first stage of NG4 you can buy about a dozen new moves. A dozen. In stage 1. And the boss there will pull no punches, I actually had more trouble with the first one than with the two or three that followed.

I also had a lot of trouble just following the action, spotting the enemies all around, and trying to understand what to prioritize. Just too much happening at once, and the graphics aren't very clear with everything looking pretty much the same in the heat of battle.

Not my type of game.

100% agree. On the second hayabisa chapter and I jist wish I had more time to play in order to embrace the challenge rather than blasting through it on baby normal… I still hope to at least try master nina ng+ bit don't think I'll be going for 100% with my backlog growing

Looked like low effort. Stages looked samey also very few enemys. i dropped it really fast. And the price for the product is way too high. For what is offered, it should cost a maximum of 40 dollars.

Team Ninja themselves have been so good for the past few years at putting out games on the regular that scratch the same itch... it seemed less than essential.

Dont forget about non-existent story and terribly boring dialogue. You guys are being too kind towards this game.

This game mightve dethroned Veilguard as the worst game of 2020s for me, if i didnt know better and blindly played it id assume this was the very first Ninja Gaiden game that was made before the studio got good and made the other ones.

I agree.
The only reason the game had any sales at all is because Itagaki died a week before release. The scores may have been inflated because of that as well.
They also released the visually impressive NG2B (even though it's based on the shitty Sigma), and that brought some positive attention to the series.

God, what a depressing lot. The band is never getting back together, my parents are divorced, I'll never love again.

Jesus Christ... your favorite video game isn't going anywhere, you could go play it right now...

How bad is Ninja Gaiden 4, that you're gonna cry in your fucking beer lol.

I've never seen such a sad thread about video games.

Couldn't care less about Ninja Gaiden ever since Itagaki stopped being involved (RIP). I also frankly do not like Platinum Games' combat systems. There was only so many times I could do their "dodge at the last second to slow down time" mechanic before I gave up on them completely.

Got the platinum trophy earlier, what a heck of game! My man Heimdall_Xtreme Heimdall_Xtreme already made a great thread reviewing it. But I honestly hope folks would give it a try if you haven't.

NG4 is quite a lot more accessible compared to previous entries - the command lists are much easier to pull off (for some fancy movement). The game does a better job tutoring you through the game systems and you can access the training room during the missions.
The best part for the game being satisfying is that you don't have to be an action game guru to pull off some fancy combos. With very moderate practice time, you should be able to find some movements that are effective and slick, and then hack and slash through the whole game.

But that doesn't mean they dumbed down the core identity of the Ninja Gaiden IP. There are many great action games on the market, but in terms of "high-speed action game", NG4 really offers a unique experience.
In most character action games, the normal enemies/mobs are pretty much present here as dummy punch bags to let you slash, but in NG every enemy is lethal, you have to be constantly moving, positioning, dodging and fighting when there are openings. So it's not about to have best muscle memories to pull off infinite aerial combos, it's more about find most effective ways to dismember each enemy type, and quick obliterate them. Also, you gotta be smart about managing the blood orbs in the arena for UTs. Compared to others, I'd say even though NG4 is much faster pace, it actually is more about tactics rather than muscle memory and reflex.

Some criticism says Yakumo is a weak main protagonist compared to Ryu, that's for sure. But dual characters does offer more replayability. I finished the master ninja playthrough via Ryu, and plan to do it again with Yakumo as his style and weapons offer quite different experiences.

The game is actually very lengthy compared to peers, my first normal playthrough took about 20 hours. Honestly I am quite grateful Microsoft funded this game and let it come out. It's just its exposure and popularity seem abysmally low. Hope more folks would give it a try. Truly an underrated gem.

Lastly, some more gifs, hopefully gonna sell the game to some folks.

How long for the plat? I'm gonna start it soon, any suggestions for tackling the platinum.. Can I just play and piece it all together?

To be honest, I want to try it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Ninja Gaiden Black 2 is my favorite, and I hope it's more similar to that than the others.

Don't even think about platinum on the 1st playthrough. I recommend playing on normal and stopping multiple times throughout the game to slow down and explore training mode.

The game is meant to be replayed and all the achievements are mostly straight forward. Basically beat everything, collect everything. Then there's a few specialty achievements for other things that tell you what is needed to do.

I took my time, beat it 3x, did all the trials, did multiple chapter select runs to look for chests and other things and played over 100 hours. Some people could get the platinum in half that.

Well what I mean is do I need a guide or can I just play and get everything thru however many playthroughs, anything majorly missable is my main question

ugh... I was tempted to splurge on a series S, since Black is so highly regarded... but I couldn't justify the price on my humble budget

luckily, it looks like the master collection runs well on the Switch2... so it will have to do /ghetto
It doesn't look that good... It looks pixelated, and you end up giving up on it because of how bad it looks...

I'll play it next week... Maybe it got an update on Switch 2.

The Switch collection prioritizes FPS, which hovers around 47, 50, and sometimes 60 FPS... But they sacrifice too much in the graphics...

The jagged edges and pixelation are so bad that I even quit playing it...

I'll see if they've fixed that in the Switch 2... It shouldn't even be seen on the original Switch.

first thing about this game i noticed. just like dmc5. now i realize the background scenery has nothing to do with how well the games might play, but to play them is to look at it for hours, & i've just gotten weirdly sensitive to sterile/ugly environments in my old age (hated diablo 4 & the depths in tears of the kingdom, too)...

Price tag is too high for the replay value that it has, not much to unlock, seems like a one and done kind of deal. I know people play these games to achieve better ratings, higher difficulty, etc. But I only replay if there's something new to experience, maybe a new weapon, secret boss, to unlock a character etc.

I found it forgettable. Not a good NG game. Its closer to 3 than 1 or 2. Lacks replayability. Yakumo is shit Gen Z design.

Most fun was chapter replay with Ryu. But sadly the levels suck ass and take too long.

I just picked it up tonight. I find the parry timing quite difficult. I can say I dont really get how it works like other games.

The parry is done with the heavy weapon variant, so its slow. You pretty much need to anticipate the red moves. They usually come out after a combo. Eventually you learn the boss movesets and do it on time.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black showed me that I nowadays suck at these kinds of games. I'm probably too old for them. Not absurdly old like Topher, but still.

I really hate this game. After trying to beat a boss for a long time, dying countless times, you are awarded with a "D - lesser ninja".

But don't get me wrong, there is absolutely room for both love and hate for Ninja Gaiden 4.
The combat is as everyone knows, really really good. Not a fan of dodge and block on the same button though. Takes time to get used to.
Story... this is the kind of good old video game story that John Carmack so finely phrased "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important,".

I think gaming has moved on from Carmack's description, and many games have amazing stories these days.
But I hope there is still room for games like Ninja Gaiden 4 in the future.
