Xbox Series X | S Estimated to Have Sold 37 million units (may be < 30m)

Dudes whole existence revolved around inflating Xbox numbers. I wonder how he will cope now. Something tells me he along with the other die hard Xbox warriors are going to identify as PC enthusiasts now.

My only issue with statements like this that there are plenty of people who were pc gamers before Xbox was even a sniff in the eye of bill gates and purchased the OG Xbox because it was like a cut down pentium III or something with an Nvidia GPU. It was a cool console to buy and I modded mine. Put XBMC on it and I was a fan.

But, my gaming started on old 386 then 486 pcs wresting with IRQ and DMA conflicts on sound cards because I wanted voices in day of the tentacle. Maybe monkey island or fate of Atlantis. Probably Sam and max hit the road!

Basically im a Lucas arts dweeb.

I bought a Series X with money I made off of selling PS5s back during their launch. I figured I'd give Xbox a try again for the first time since the OG. The fact that games generally performed better on the PS5 and Xbox lacked killer exclusives has made it sit idle for me this whole generation. I'm not a fan of renting games, so Game Pass is a turn off for me. They really needed some home run exclusives to be successful this gen and failed miserably.

An interesting experiment that I think has proven that consumers can handle it and the industry can support it. But, I think platform holders running a full-fat console and a paired-back handheld PC is the most likely outcome moving forward. Sony's certainly headed in that direction, and Microsoft has tried with the Ally stuff. I don't think we see a gimped home console like the S again.
Any chance we get three SKUs, well technically 2 for Xbox Magnus?

Modded OG Xbox was greatness

Word about is we're getting a console as well as a console-PC hybrid, both using Magnus. I suspect the console is the "low spec" Xbox that's cheaper, whereas the console-PC hybrid is the "high spec" Xbox that's (a lot?) more expensive.

could be worse, could be wii u numbers (managing only about 13m in 5 years)

The problem is that Xbox is currently selling less than Wii U did in its final year. Xbox is also selling less now than the OG Xbox and Dreamcast did before they got canceled.

Its a real shame.
They had many good things going on for them like the hardware, BC, quick resume etc but in the end, Gamepass can only take you so far...

Again, it's shame since I loved the OG Xbox and X360, (skipped the XONE) and liked the XSX.

It's an unfortunate case of "what could have been", alas, they chose to shoot themselves in the foot.

I honestly thought the Series X would sell better than the S. Very wrong on that.

People will hate to admit it, but the S is an industry standard right now.
I know you corrected yourself afterwards but now you know the Series S only sold because the X (and PS5) weren't available. People are willing to spend the extra mile to have the full experience, that's why the PS5 Digital sold like 1/5th of the total of PS5 sales, and the Switch Lite barely sold 30 million, by far the lowest selling model behind the OG and the OLED.

Series S was a mistake, and the best proof of that is that Phil Spencer believed it would sell more. Which sums up how much he knows the industry.

Here, here. Series x is excellent hardware and a generation thrown away in poor business decisions. I've enjoyed gamepass and had some amazing experiences this gen but they just did not deliver the goods. The real good stuff that they needed to. A shame but it is what it is.

Rumours out of CES under NDA is they were behind closed doors talking the future of Xbox and they are going to have one last go of it, it seems. Or more, if you think it's dead...it's not there will be another Xbox. Which we all know.

I just don't see the point if they don't create something massively appealing with excellent software support and ground breaking next gen controller tech like Sony brought with the ps5. They need the whole package

Excellent games!!!!!
Kick ass hardware
Excellent accessories, controllers etc.

....gamepass?

Honestly I don't see the point in general unless they have actual exclusives. If all the games go everywhere I don't see how they grow their base. At best they keep the current Xbox One\Series users but even that's a long shot. A lot of those people will realize they can get a PS and get all PS games and the Xbox games.

Yes because you are the only person to predict PlayStation and Switch would outsell Xbox.

You are not anywhere as smart as you so desperately want for people to believe, despite constantly begging for people's approval.

100% I can not see at all how they win any userbase. People aren't stupid. Why would you invest your cash into a platform that's had zero mainstream appeal, priced themselves out of the market, laying off thousands of people, forcing AI slop down our throats. I can understand them selling a few million to us losers who want to keep our purchase catalogue from the Xbox / 360 days alive but why would anyone else bother?

Personally Xbox seems have the stench of death. That's the only reason I can think of for the downfall of series X&S. It's like the casual gamer worldwide has decided Xbox is going to die and are hence just ignoring it. The collapse seems baffling to me as honestly this is the closest two consoles( ps5 and series X) have been. The only difference were exclusives and yet it doesn't seem enough to explain the gap.

By all factors, series should have done better than Xbox one consoles. Yet they are 50% down.

Wonder what explanation or analysis ms has for this and if we ever get to see behind the scenes.

One of the best designed systems of all time from a pure hardware perspective IMO. If this is what they came out with, a 2 SKU approach for the XBone era with no Kinect or weird online BS, it would have been huge.
Agreed they really killed the xbox one by having the hardware so inferior to ps4.

I unfortunately would have been there day 1 if they would have done that. Thankfully they fucked up and I moved on from their system and discovered that PS is where I should have been all along.

Since were discussing Magnus here; possibility of using at0 Magnus chip for a device at 1500 usd?
AT0 is for Xbox Cloud very likely. 196 CU GPU then split into two instances of 68 CUs or 4 instances of 48 CUs (if there's an S tier console). Each instance paired up with a separate Magnus SOC. It would be a better setup than what even Nvidia GFN uses.
They could probably use the AT0 for a RTX 6090 tier discrete GPU though.

The 96 CU AT1 is the maximum that will go into pre built devices, I could see a $2k Xbox PC with AT1, built by Asus ROG.

AT0, AT1, AT2 will be used for the discrete GPUs correct? I can see them being used for RTX 6070, 6080, 6090 tier cards.

Saying 'next year would be our best year!', and saying it every year, only to not deliver, eventually took its toll. Trust has been eroded away and no one believe anything Xbox claims anymore.

They lied too much.
