Windows 11 KB5074109 is causing performance drops with Nvidia GPUs

lol this shit has to be intentional at this point

They do animal testing on copilot coding

Windows 11 has become the worst Windows in MS history.
Not even ME, 98 or Vista were as bad as this. With so many bugs. So many broken updates. So much bloatware and spyware.

Vista was well-finished, with no apparent bugs. Its only problem was that it was ahead of what computers of the time could run and the fact that many manufacturers were slow to update the drivers.
To this day, it remains one of the most beautiful operating systems ever released.

Yes, it was polished, but heavy.
But it suffered from a problem not of it's own fault. Not exactly.
Lack of drivers. A lot of companies didn't have drivers ready at launch. Or worse, just never made them, forcing millions of people to either abandon their older hardware, or install XP.
There were several PC stores, that made a killing by installing XP on OCs that came with Vista pre-installed.
But there was also a lot of hardware that was sold, to replace older hardware that had no drivers.
But it's biggest problem was that after so many years of support, XP had become rock solid and had excellent performance.

Vista remains the best looking Windows so far. While Windows 8.1 is the fastest and most optimized version, I miss it...

I still remember testing Windows 8.1 and seeing that i was faster than 7, in CPU bound games, by around 5%.
If it wasn't for the awful UI, Windows 8 could have been one of Microsoft's best. But that UI was just so terrible and unintuitive.

They improved UI a lot with W10 but system speed and responsiveness was worse again...

Because of the bloatware and spyware.
Windows 10 was the OS that came with the Microslop Store by default and a ton of pre-installed apps. And a lot of spyware.
All of the issues of Windows 11 , started with Windows 10. And were then amplified.
I dread the thought of how much crap Windows 12 will be.

Pretty sure that Win8 is when the MS store came in. It's when they started with UWP as well.

Still it had a lot less crud vs 10.

I don't think I ever hated an OS so much since Windows Vista...
Windows Vista was the reason why I left PC gaming. I was suckered into the DirectX 10 hype back then, bought some of the latest and greatest parts to put together a new build, and then Vista arrived. Couldn't believe how much of a fuckup it was, and that was after experiencing the wonders of Windows ME. Months went by, non-stop frustration.

Then I saw my buddy playing Gears of War on his Xbox 360 on Xbox Live doing voice chat with a simple, clean interface, and the game looking as good as it did and wondered why the fuck I was spending so much time tweaking settings, getting angry at my mic not working properly with Teamspeak, and so forth. I bought an Xbox 360 and started having a blast immediately, and the rest is history. My main computer these days is a Mac mini.

I still have to deal with Microslop even now, because my spouse is into PC gaming. I get irrationally angry every time I have to do some kind of troubleshooting in Windows 11. The moment SteamOS or any other Linux distro becomes a true offramp with modern game support, I will be installing it and saying goodbye to Windows in my household forever.

Nothing that a start menu replacement couldn't fix. After hiding all modern apps Windows 8.1 could be made to function and look almost indistinguishable from Windows 7. It was a really nice os without the tablet interface look and without crappy modern apps.

Well, according to Windows Latest on Twitter, the January 2026 Update is NOT causing any frame drops and the reports are a result of "...an AI-generated summary of an AI-generated article, which contains false information."

The Update is causing issues with Outlook Classic, Azure Virtual Desktop and desktop.ini in File Explorer, as well as Black Screens on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs.

source: Windows 11 KB5074109 issues: black screen, freezes Outlook POP, breaks Azure Virtual Desktop, LocalizedResourceName (desktop.ini)

The spyware is worse, but I gotta say nah with ME, and Vista if you didn't have the actual hardware bump it needs was pure garbage.

ME man, I've never had to reinstall Windows more times because of something breaking than in ME. Thankfully this wasn't my persona computer back then, it was just at school.

ME was the 9x Windows that gave the fewer issues. Mind you, not zero, not even close to zero.
Buc compared to 98, it was bliss. That one was so buggy and problematic...
I also had a friend who had 95 in his PC. He eventually "upgraded" to 98 and he regrated doing that dearly.

No performance changes on my end. Updated win11 like 2 days ago, just tested Cyberpunk benchmark and its scoring the same results as before. (5070ti)

The lengths people will go to in order to shit on Windows is hilarious. Some reddit user makes a claim and suddenly it's news. It's bullshit, btw.

I've been testing performance extensively since DLSS 4.5 dropped, and that update hit my machine 3 days ago, so if I would have lost performance I'd know about it.
It's being reported by other places so it doesn't seem to be shenanigans.

A lie being repeated doesn't make it true. They literally rip, word for word the first article. You guys are falling for AI written slop that gets copy pasted at another site.

Windows 11 was good at launch, but it's a disaster now.

Turns out an infinite number of H1Bs vibe coding with Copilot cannot maintain an operating system codebase.

At least for my personal circumstances, I had less issues with both than ME. Everyone I knew in my personal life, and the computers at school just had annoying problems with ME. More frequent crashes, and I also think hardware and software compatibility issues were worse at its launch, especially because they got rid of real-mode MS-DOS access if I remember correctly.

I do remember 98 being better with later service packs though, and I forget if I upgraded immediately to it during the first year, or still was on 95...so I might have avoided 98's growing pains. Pretty much every Windows until around 8 seemed to have more growing pains because Microsoft would do some big paradigm change that broke compatibility with current software or peripherals.

And people are convinced that the next Microsoft "console" with windows will actually work well!!!!!!!! Fuck me they can't help themselves. JUST STICK WITH FUCKING CONSOLES YOU BELLENDS.

Their console division has a totally different mindset, though. I can see them intervening to not fuck things up sooner than later

Zero performance impact here after installing update (RTX 5070) but looks like the performance drop claim has already been debunked too.
Same here. No performance issues whatsoever after update ( RTX 5070 Ti ) Hell I haven't had a single problem with Windows 11 since it launched. I guess I'm lucky LOL.

It's crazy that, a company that started as a software company, arguably the largest in the world, and have fuckin trash software.

For instance the Microsoft store. Trash. Xbox app. Trash. Windows 11. Trash. Guess that's what happens when 40%+ of your crew is LGBT and progressive. Psychos who don't give a fuck if they use AI to code, or just wing it.

This gonna turn out to be nothing like usual isn't it...
Last time windows update fucked my performance, Nvidia released a hotfix couple weeks later which nearly doubled my fps in several games.
So Microslop releasing a bad update isn't exactly unheard of.
