Ubisoft has cancelled 6 games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake

You can easily pinpoint when Ubisoft started going downhill.

Way too many people work there with too many games being made.

Give UBI execs credit. They treat the company like a charity handing out jobs and game projects like candy.

They've toned them down lately, but at one point years back they probably had 5-6 shooter games all going at once.

Six games ... that's a lot of people who will be out of work soon. At least a thousand people, maybe more (considering the ridiculous number of devs employed by Ubisoft)

Beyond Good and Evil 2 surely has to be canceled now, they literally haven't shown jack for that game.

That game has been in development hell forever. First announced in 2008, then a re-reveal in 2017. A game where the first creative director (Michel Ancel) was fired, the second one (Emile Morel) unexpectedly died. There's no way this game survives.

so lets hypothesize
prince of persia - canceled
Black flag - delayed?
Splinter cell - Delayed?
Division 3 - delayed
ghost recon?
rainbow 6?
rabbids?
they have so many IPs

Most of the creators and developpers from 2000-2015 era of Ubisoft has already left the boat and has been replaced with lower tier quality developprs, i think the boat has now sailed.

There's no way they wouldn't have fucked it up, thus harming a great legacy of a legendary IP further.

Its sad, but ultimately nothing of value was lost. I do hope the developers land on their feet though during the upcoming inevitable layoffs, that's always sad....but if that's the cost of seeing Ubisoft burn to the ground, it's well worth it.

At this point they were still hiring the correct diverse people, they fucked up when they started hiring activists in positions of power who made terrible decisions like assigning the PoP remake to an indian team with zero experience thinking this was going to make the game more authentic (because to them Persia = Hindustan)

Didn't see that one coming...sorta lol

What they should keep doing is doling out these free upgrades for their past games. Or resuscitating old classics that just vaporized off of digital stores. Sure you can play stuff like Creed 1 and 2 at 60fps on Xbox, but PS users have been missing out on a bunch of mini Ubi upgrades for a long time.

If the Black Flag remake is on the list of stuff that got shitcanned, then at the very least they should give us a boost to that one. And the remaster of 3. And Unity.

Re-release the Splinter Cell HD trilogy. Re release the Prince of Persia HD trilogy. Stuff like that I think could bring back some iota of faith.

My guess is that Morbid Metal and Project U are dead.

I stopped caring about anything Ubisoft does a long time ago. They could close shop tomorrow and i wouldn't even notice.

Is Far Cry 7 still in the works? I did some searching in a few articles and it doesn't look like it's specifically called out. I'm hoping that means it's still on track.

sands of time was genuinely great... they could release a straight port and i would buy it just to avoid stringing my gamecube across the living room to play it

the game doesn't need an upgrade of any kind imo

Ubisoft said its focus will be on a "return to exceptional levels of quality on the Open-World Adventure segment" and to "step-change the group's position in the [Games as a Service]-native experiences segment".

Exactly what everybody wants! More mediocre Open world Ubislop and Live Service trash like Xdefiant!

I think they just thought it would lead to cheap development costs because modern tools and whatever * hand waving ensues *… I do not think they believed the BS about making it more authentic.

Wild to see that they thought they'd release the game just 4 months after that 2020 reveal trailer… and then poof! Back to the drawing boards due to the massive (and warranted) backlash it got. And now, 5 years later, it's gone for good…

Experience the classic tale that redefined action-adventure gaming in The Sands of Time Remake, the first full-scale remake of Prince of Persia by Ubisoft. Available January 21, 2021.

Not sure if you have a gaming capable PC, but

It basically runs on a toaster at this point, and there's an HD texture pack (hit or miss IMO)

yeah, i don't want a copy on the cloud somewhere

i'm a physical copy nerd

besides, clearing away the empty mountain dew cans, and sitting like a gremlin at my PC isn't much better than just firing up the gamecube anyway

I understand why people shit on Ubisoft and I spent a few years without playing anything that they released.

However, last December I decided to grab Valhalla on sale. I like the Vikings concept and I used to like Asscreed before they went the RPG route. For like $5 it was pretty low risk.

To be honest I was a bit surprised. The game is pretty big and well detailed, you can tell a lot of resources were spent crafting the world. I'm still not sold on the RPG mechanics and I find it too big (the kind of big that makes me think twice about launching it instead of playing something with a shorter loop) but after about 8 - 10 hrs I wouldn't say the game is bad and I've been having fun. While I'm playing it many comments I've read online over the years come to my mind but I don't think it's a bad game per se.

Its not bad its very mediocre like all their newer games

I can't even comprehend this level of incompetence.

Anyway, you can play the orignal game on PCSX2 in 60FPS, 16:9 and with good CRT shader it still looks glorious.

Or fix the PC release with mods, like so:

Amazing game.

I have it on the Ubislop store but I cant seem to get a controller to work with it
I haven't played it in a while myself, but I think Steaminput fixes any controller issues. You can probably just add the .exe to the steam launcher and use the Steaminput settings that way. Full disclosure, I haven't tried it, but a quick google search says it can be done.

i dont understand .you had 5 years since the trailer to polish it up and fix it. 5 years. do you know how long tht is for game development ,this is a remake aswell . it does not add up how ubsioft says they couldnt come up with the quality needed when it took them 5 more yeasr of work on the remake. i am truly shocked. ubsifot is a mess

lol wait so what I get from this is:
- They had some new team make a remake of Sands of Time.
- It looked so shit that like a month before it was supposed to come out they delayed it indefinitely
- We then learned the project had been taken over and basically rebooted by the more experienced Ubisoft Montreal Team
- Like 5 years go by, more time than it took the entire POP trilogy on PS2 to be made.
- Apparently it's still shit and they have given up

Maybe it's still fresh for me because I don't think I've played an asscreed game since origins (which I dropped) and have been playing for a few hours so far.

What I do think is that the worlds they create are some of the best in the industry.

Seems like a talent issue.

Should've never caved to your ideology quotas.

AAA game development is absolutely broken to the core.
they literally can't even make a game anymore, WHILE HAVING THE ALREADY FINISHED FUCKING BLUEPRINT RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM!

that's absolutely insane to say the least.

how hard can it be to just copy the game mechanics and level design of Sands of Time, and then maybe tweak one or two of the less well made things? all they needed to do is maybe improve the combat a bit to be less sluggish and less one note... that's it.
