Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

the challenge in Spiderman 2 are mostly relegated to the challenge rooms which are really challenging to get Gold on even on medium. Pretty sure i remember them forcing you to kill enemies in various different ways and getting multipliers on top of that to get a high enough score. I doubt anyone is getting a gold in those levels playing with one hand. the story bosses are designed to be easy because they want casuals to beat their game. its why their games have such a high finish rate.

i am a 100% certain that wolverine will have much higher difficulty levels like the new GOW. its just a different kind of game compared to Ratchet and Spiderman. Resistance 3's hardest difficulty was no joke. Not as brutal as Crushing in uncharted games, but on par with other shooters at the time.

it's not going to be souls slop and im happy about that.

there was exactly 1 Mysterio challenge that was somewhat hard to do (I played on Spectacular, not sure if those scale with the setting) where you had to kill a specific amount of enemies under a time limit I think.

but even that one was eventually pretty easy if you memorise the spawn points of the enemies. Because you can just stay in the air indefinitely, and pull enemies off of buildings, or in the case of that particular challenge, off the edge of that floating simulated platform.
so you float in the air, pull them, kick them off. then zip line towards the next group and repeat.

that's how you can win every single fight with a drop high enough to kill enemies btw. just hover over the edge and do the same thing over and over. only a handful of enemies can counter that.

Mysterio's boss fight was hilarious tho. I literally killed him in a single combo 🤣 he couldn't even move. I just mashed buttons until he died.

I think I still have that recording saved on my PS5... maybe I'll upload it.

What the fuck happened to RGG Studios? How is this acceptable in 2026

I am speechless

Pushing Dreamcast to it's limit, there.

Mafia's second half's lighting is so much better. I really like the way the game looks now. All that flat texture work has now come alive, and you can easily see the love put into the modeling and geometry.

turns out UE5 isn't only ruining game graphics, but also movies 😭

lol movie CG quality has been going down the shitter for a long time. It's a man power issue. Unreal Engine isnt the only virtual background being used in hollywood. ILM made their own and other studios followed. I agree that it's not ideal. Id rather they shoot on location, but i dont mind them using it in tv shows. House Of Dragon Season 1, Mandalorian Season 1, The Batman all looked amazing.

Love, Death and Robots is a CG show aiming for gamey graphics yes, but episodes use uses both Unreal and Maya. you'd be hard pressed to find which episodes were done using unreal or maya.

Gore Verbinski's Pirates Trilogy still holds up, same goes for Bay's Transformer movies in the late 2000s. Where as most of the modern Marvel and Disney trash that have nothing to do with Unreal Engine looks like shit. VFX artists are overworked and dont get enough time. James Cameron uses Weta FX responsible for most Marvel movies, but he gives them enough time which is why all avatar movies look like a billion bucks. Weta did both Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit trilogy. Ten years apart and they looked worse. Just not enough time and resources.

To be fair, RGG never had stunning graphics, nice models, but that's it, all their games had poor textures if you look around. This area is just unlit and I guess that's why it looks so bad on the screenshot. Any other area (with lighting present) looks probably way better, but also we have to be sure this isn't a low details screenshot or something.

Ive been saying this forever. People keep pixel-peeping every other game but the Yakuza games that reuse assets from like 5 games ago, barely ever expand the length of the map 10 years later and they get a pass. Sure, story is always dumb fun but ive never seen a more lazy studio as if they are still making graphics for the arcades in the 2000s.

Horizon 6 looks incredible, as is always the case with Forza. Fable looks… I'll have to wait until I'm home from work to watch a 4K stream of it. It definitely looks extremely fun though!

Fable looks amazing. I can see next gen lighting, next gen assets, next gen volumetric effects even in that blurry footage. I am sure it will look clean and sharp on PC even if there is a slight downgrade which was always going to happen.

Horizon though? last gen garbage. get this cross gen shit out of here. they took 5 years and made DLC. Same lighting, same foliage quality, same car models, weather, etc as FH5. Forza 7 to Forza 8 was a bigger leap than this. And MS shut that studio down.

It's a shame that DriveClub died and we are left with this series instead. Just a stream of mediocrity. Imagine where Evolution Studios wouldve taken DriveClub by now. Just like Sony did with Evolution and Polyphony Digital, MS shut down the wrong studio.

Fable looks rough as f. Terrible movement animation, stiff face expressions with dead eyes, unstable 30fps, they still need much work to do to polish this game. Forza looks good but its just fh5 in Japan settings so yeah, no much improvement here.

im willing to excuse minor issues in games where devs actually tried to push the bar. I will be playing on PC so framerate shouldnt be an issue and the game is like 10 months away and will probably be delayed to next year anyway

im not going to excuse games where devs literally did CTRL+V and called it a day.

Combat animations and enemy reactions to your hits look really good. Facial animations could use some work.

So to sum up:

The world looks for the most gorgeous but they are going for a more cartoony artstyle, not full on realism
characters\digital acting look a bit shit, not gonna lie, horizon still reign supreme in this aspect
Combat and animations looks...ok i guess, i never expected incredible combat from driving simulators devs
The npcs\city systemic stuff sound the coolest thing in the trailer if it's really dynamic.

Overall good but i was expecting maybe a bit more graphically, yt compression probably kill many details, do we have a true 4k version of the trailer?

Am i missing something?

Fable is solid, but way too fucking close to GTA6. Who the hell has time to play another 300 hour RPG in the fall when GTA is out.

Plus its going to have the Ghosts of Tsushima/TLOU 2 effect where I played TLOU2 right before Ghosts and as a result, ghosts felt like a PS2 game.

I know what you mean. To me game like AC Shadows is still some way ahead of it.

Late to the party on this one, but Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is super impressive. The density and variety of the foliage is unmatched (of games I've played). For example, there's no "faking" of grass coverage, where you have an area with a grass texture and then token grass patches that are actually modeled. It's one of the most detailed fantasy worlds I've ever seen. Notice how it wasn't cross-gen, either. I don't think they could've released it on PS4/XBone without compromising their vision.

The density of the vegetation is simply unmatched and the main reason why i immediately called it a generational leap over HFW which upset many on gaf. The fact there are like 20 different plants in one area all on top of each other and yet stand out instead of mushing together is insane. And thats where their incredible RTGI implementation comes in. It works when any other technique wouldve just made those dozens plants stand out like a sore thumb.

I'm replaying GOW 2018 on PC right now (120fps, DLSS4 etc.) and holy shit HDR in this game is striking, amazing contrast and use of colors. Why so many games are washed out using HDR? Devs are so afraid of high contrast...

I only completed base PS4 version years ago.

Ok, watching the Forza reveal on my 4k oled tv and i see why people find it so impressive. I can see the bump in level of detail now. The foliage and trees definitely got an upgrade from the previous game. The dusk time lighting fooled me a few times, i thought i was watching real life footage. I still dont like the mid day lighting, and the city graphics, both of which look last gen, but i would have to retract my previous statement about it looking like garbage.

Are you using the RenoDX mod? God of War has really bad HDR out of the box. extremely deep-fried. That said, people seem to love that look, so who am I to judge. But it's all out of wack.
