Winter Storm Fern - Stay Warm, US GAF

Midwest gang reporting from Indianapolis. We're expecting 8"-12" on the low estimates, with good possibility of more. Very dry snow for us, and windy. Could get some big drifts. And then nothing but evil, punishing cold after that. South of Indiana, the ice is supposed to be a real problem. I expect very bad things in the south from this storm. Probably an infrastructure blow out in places, with many days of no power.

Got my generator ready to go so LETS GO!

Well, weather man here in Tulsa Oklahoma predicted 10-14" yesterday. It had started snowing when I went to bed last night around 11pm.

Woke up and we have...maybe 1.5 inches total.

Now he's on Facebook getting raked over the coals and trying to explain why he got it wrong and it's not his fault. It's not helping.

My neighbor went out and spun some donuts in the cul-de-sac in front of my house. That was a fun watch. :messenger_smiling:

Already white down here in Southern IN, latest runs showing some big numbers for here in Jasper

Watching a little Ryan Hall as we have a wedding and reception to go to tonight, look forward to trying to get back home

Two day storm…

No idea if this is mental issues or someone who supplies others like in Southern IN as we have a very large Amish community that don't drive and have seen people come in a panel truck and take away a load like this to take back to them

Usually though those are like special orders that WalMart knows is coming so they don't get wiped out

How about leave what you don't need at the store instead of deeming yourself the king of distributing necessities?

Right on man, no idea you're so close! My best friend lives just outside of Jasper, and I spent many years in my teens and 20s in and around Jasper. Wife is from Pike county not far from you.

Stay safe down there. I think you're gonna get hammered harder than us.

My sister is reporting -55 wind chill in Thief River Falls. I cannot fathom that kind of cold. I've been in 20's and that was doable, but like 70 degrees colder than that?
Guess I'd smoke a whole lot less.

In PA they said 18-20+ inches of snow and 3/10 inches of ice the other day. Now it is at 6-10 and 1/10th. Hopefully it stays on that lower side. My place loses power pretty easily and it is really cold here. The power is so bad during storms in this area that they actually have the electric company out here upgrading all the equipment and lines. The area outside my house is all ripped up. Too bad they couldn't complete the project a little earlier.

My girlfriend is coming over and I think she has this whole romantic hallmark movie sipping hot chocolate while it slowly snows outside type of moment. Really if the power goes out it's pitch dark, cold and I have to worry about the pipes freezing. And I have to shovel every few hours and try and get the dogs to shit outside when they don't like the weather either.

My wife was like that when it snowed before all of Texas lost power in 2021 for days. She was prancing around in the snow like a damn fairy and in my mind I'm planning every contingency like "we're gonna be fucked by this forecast" 😂

Narrator: They were indeed fucked by that forecast.

I had to run some errands today, and people are freaking the fuck out. I almost got hit 4 times while driving, just because people are driving crazy and panicking I guess. I saw a salt truck that got into an accident and was in a ditch. There's not even any snow yet!

Luckily, I'm stocked up on food and booze, and already salted my driveway, so I'll be fine. And if the power and internet goes out, I've got enough batteries and game boys to go around.

right in the middle of the path in NJ, but forecasting only like 7-10, mid compared to other places.
But people still cleared out all the meats and stuff at the grocery store like its gonna be a week long shutdown

Alright, hunkered down for the weekend, groceries, foods etc all ready. Path salted, the less used car has been covered with a car-blanket (? I don't know what they're called).

Really hope the power and gas stays strong.

It's not even below freezing yet and our school system has sit down on monday....JFC!!

My son has been on a 3 day out of school suspension for fighting and his last day was monday, they better not try to extend it :P

Edit: Maybe I should learn to read. Only watched the video and was instantly brought back to 2020.
No worries as I remember how bad that was as well

It just felt off to me having personally seen people do this for others and digging deeper seems this guy is a legend for what he does in his community

Got about a millimeter of ice. At best.

Therefore I expect at least a week of apocalyptic conditions, no food, all schools closed, possibly zombies.

Viva Texas!

But stay safe you guys farther north.

Just cleared out the driveway, salted it again, cleared the cars.

Thankfully it wasn't as bad in NOVA ( Kacho Kacho hope it's the same in your neck), but I reckon its much worse in other parts of the country.

Woke up to a sheet of ice on everything, maybe quarter inch. No power outages, which is weird for us, but supposed to get more freezing rain this afternoon for several hours so the worst could still be coming.

Gonna be fun trying to get the parking lots and sidewalks safe(ish) at work tomorrow.

Only 6" so far where I live, which is a far cry from the 16-20" predicted. We better get a lot more, I feel short-changed!

I'm in the UK and it snows every year up here. We're not all southern softies!

We very rarely get crazy levels of snow now though. Maybe once every 5 to 10 years. But it does now try to snow in april !!! Most years 🫣😱

although from about Perth north recently had a week of being stuck at home with plenty of sno, just after new year

But from my area and down further south, then a light dusting of snow. seems to totally break the country 😬😂

Lots of rain an cold nights at this time of year and plenty of stormy weather. (and a bright sun that's like painted on, on the days that are clear and chilly 🥶)
