25th anniversary of OG XBox is coming this November 15th. Series consoles have effectively ended its production late last year, so its only natural that XBox Magnus gets announced on the 25th anniversary, to launch sometime in 3rd Quarter 2027.

Some relative factors:
- RDNA 5 has been prepared to launch in 2027.
- Zen 6 server and desktop due to launch in late 2026, mobile due to launch 2027.
- PC market would be at the end of 18ish month dedpression from RAM/NAND AI-tastrophy, ripe for a hybrid PC/console launch.

In all likelihood, Magnus will be one of the first RDNA 5 device to launch. Discrete cards won't launch until nVidia launches RTX60 series first with pricing. This probably force AMD to launch RX100 series near the end of the year at the earliest. Initial Madusa Point APUs (mobile Zen 6) are rumored to use RDNA 3.5 instead of 5. Only other Zen 6/RDNA 5 APUs that would launch along with Magnus will be Madusa Halos (48 CU and 24 CU APUs).

Given Sony just announced they're extending the PS5 generation, I'd imagine Microsoft - who are in a worse position on basically everything in comparison - would also need to delay. They might do a Project Scorpio pseduo-announcement - "We're happy to announce that we don't have anything to announce, but here's a bunch of talking heads tell you how great the thing we're not actually announcing is!" - but I wouldn't expect much. As for their 25th, I doubt they have the budget for that. Bond will wear a Conker T-Shirt, talk fondly about things she wasn't there for, and then they'll just drag out Halo's UE5-powered corpse and hope everyone somehow forgot that they let Bonnie Ross fuck that franchise for a decade. If you're expecting anything more, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. Microsoft is betting the farm on AI - they don't have the money for Xbox right now.

I thought I heard desktop Zen 6 was supposedly also delayed until early 2027.

I don't see any major hardware coming out this year. Even the yearly smart phone launches are going to be screwed due to memory.

It will never get announced. RAM, NAND, and AI market will cause Microsoft to shit can the entire thing and just get out of hardware. PC/PS5|6, and Switch 2 (when feasible) will be seen as the safer less risky option. They will also kill Gamepass as well.

The issue was expecting anyone to read anything besides the title.

Microsoft isn't making an announcement 9 or so months before launch.
Technically, MS can pull off launch by April/May. Remember, its a $1000+ hybrid. You dont need to prepare millions of units. Its more of a platform than a SKU anyways.

I'd bet the APU is already taped off.

Announcement dont have to reveal price. Also, its not a pure console. You are almost implying that everyone will stop making pre-made PCs in 2027 bc of AI. That's a no.

In a different world, where Xbox division had their heads screwed on, announcing and releasing their next-gen console ASAP would be a genius play; if they lined up their system seller exclusives right (they won't) and had one or two key system seller features(which I can't think of any), then they could redo 2005 all over with how X360 exploded into the globe, with Sony scrambling to catch up in the next 2~3 years.

Stop making premade PCs? No. But they will cut them down. Just look at Nvidia reintroducing the 3060 whilst discontinuing stronger cards.

Magnus play for MS is a lot like Steam OS for Valve. It's gonna be a slow burn. Its $1000+ hybrid with PC functionality added. It's not expected to sell condole launch numbers.

While I agree Xbox failed (miserably), I think it would be terrible for the industry if Sony where alone (since Nintendo is already playing in it's own garden).
Yeah, no one seems to remember top of the world Sony was insufferable and did stupid shit like $600 PS3 and told folks to get 2 jobs.

Maybe Cerny would prevent that this time around but who knows.

It has nothing to do with it being terrible for the industry or not. Xbox exiting the console and hardware market is literally due dilligence by Microsoft execs to its shareholders.

I think a 2027 release of a high end Magnus is the best play Xbox has, and a PS6 delay would give Xbox a real niche in the market. As PS6 looks (thankfully) delayed, say to 2028-2029, a meaningful bump over PS5 Pro could make Magnus the go to for the more hardcore niche.

If RAM is available for them, I can see them launching as soon as possible.

Would like to see how they handle distribution, warranty etc. No more retail stores from what I can tell.

It seems to be a solid box, with nothing to worry from Playstation side. Doing its own thing.

Too late Microsoft!!! I made my own!
Today, after a lot of fucking around forcing Xbox Full Screen experience , auto log on, Steam access and GPU tweaks I just did what Microsoft clearly wants us to do and just did it my damn self.

My 5800 x3D w/ a 5070TI is now my next gen console.

Boots directly into full screen Xbox and plays the 360 startup sound from 2005. Runs Steam big picture directly from that. Microsoft has integrated Spotify and other functionality into full screen as well.

Going by leaks they aren't aiming for the same market anymore. Xbox Magnus will be a step above regular consoles. It's for an enthusiast group more interested in PC gaming who think even Pro variants are too weak but aren't interested in building their own living room PC. Expect a $1500 price point or higher. It'll effectively go head to head with Steam Machine in a new PC-in-a-console-shell segment targeting the living room, but the Xbox is a big step above that one.
