A 1:1 FF7 Remake would have been legendary!

Nah, i like this version. Its more well explaining the story of the original, while also keeping the OG as not only canon, but everything else. The movie, Crisis core and Dirge are not erased and you need to play them to call yourself a true FF7 fan and that is hilarious
Everything FFVII after the OG is what's wrong with FFVII. I think it suffered because of the expanded universe.

I'd love it.

Even modded up FF7 is still a incosistent mess graphically. Not because that's what SQE wanted, but because of the long development process, the low-poly chibi models being N64 leftovers. You basically have 3 different art-styles. Field, Battle and then CGI which sometimes is chibi, sometimes is close to the battle models and sometimes is its own thing.

They corrected that in FFVIII and (especially) IX and modded up those games look fucking beautiful, timeless and consistent, even today. So, yes. I want a 1:1 FF7 remake.

the tacked on 50 hours of checklist chores of the same radio towers/small insignificant bounties and cache box finding..at worst, should have been 2 parts

Just thinking about what could have been. If they had done a faithful 1:1 Remake in one 80h game.
Glorious! Would be in my TOP3 games of all time.
But no... Of course it would have been too good to be true.
They rather decided to do some timetravel multiverse ghostwhisper Sequel with 3 different games. Thank you Square Enix.
The chances of getting another 1:1 remake now are almost zero.

Would you buy a FF7 Remake in multiple parts?
I recently played the OG FF7 for the first time (and previously played FF6) .. its amazeballs how this game shits all over the fake-remake ... remake its a travesty of a game , just awful and I couldn't even bother with the second part.

I love the remake games, but yes, the mid 2000s compilation crap was largely garbage. None of it captured any of the magic of the original, one of the disappointments I do have with the remakes is that instead of retconning/ignoring it, they seem to be doubling down and implementing a lot of that crap.

I don't know why they seem so in love with the compilation crap.

Really? You mean 2 prequel games and a sequel movie ruined the amazing story of a mentally ill solder with an identity crisis, fighting a momma's boy with a suicidal fetish?

I like the newer versions, but I do think the multiverse plot stuff is indefensible trash that only hurts the games.

Every time it randomly gets brought back up in the story, it just deflates any drama or excitement that's happening.

it should be and they also save budget , time and resource for new FF . :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Let Yoshinori Kitase as leader of FF series are biggest mistake Square ever did . I dont know why this guy doesnt step down now. He did too much damage to the series

Ehh, I can always go back and play the original. It holds up great.

I do wish that they'd made it so that spells don';t require adrenaline to cast, though. That's dumb. You should just be able to wait, without attacking. Also they should've just done some sort of live jazz/taiko drums cover of the original Turks Theme instead of these boring new versions. Get someone banging on one of those giant taiko drums for the deep drum hit.

btw speaking of these games, I saw someone saying in another thread that they ruined Remake by adding a games journalist god mode, which had me pissed off for a little bit. But I looked it up and it turns out that those are optional cheats that you can enable :pie_relieved: . Idunno why anyone would need to enable those cheats because the game's already pretty easy, but whatever, as long as it doesn't affect me.

Oh yeah, and it'd be pretty funny if this was in Remake too, but that was never gonna happen lol

Don't think it would ever have worked.

In ff7 some of the dungeons were like 3 screens. You can run through then in a minute assuming no random encounters. Like reactor at the start. The only thing slowing you down is random encounters.

How do you have modern action combat and keep it 1:1. Or even the based but you can see enemies? 4 fights per dungeon? Game would end up being one long cutscene.

Nobody ever wants to see random encounters return. Awful.

I played the demo on s2 and thought it was good, but I never played the original game outside of maybe 10 hours when it first came out

Should I play the original game first? I was thinking of just picking up the new games once they go on sale.

You should probably play the original first, since the entire major subplot with the ghosts and stuff really requires you to remember the original game imo. Also the original is still amazing.

If you are ok with retrogaming get the OG and then try the remake.

I played first the remake and hated... then I played the OG and its just perfection chefs kiss

It is legendary. We got Remake, which was pretty good; and Rebirth, which is one of the GOAT of gaming. Rebirth is so good I'm rather concerned that it is likely I'm going to be a bit disappointed with part 3 because how can they possibly top Rebirth?

Thank you Square Enix indeed.
I'm with you. I thought Rebirth was incredible. A modern classic.

Honestly I loved Remake but Rebirth and it's Open Worlds where it tells where everything is the opposite of what an open world should be. This game should've been so much better. they did a lot of other things right. Love the battle system too.

Disagree with OP on this one. Remake and Rebirth add enough QoL and system enhancements to negate the need to play FF7 OG for anything other than nostalgia.

Everyone has their opinion of course, but…

They removed Valentina's boobs jiggling, so it can't quite be definitive. The super bosses at the end were awesome, though.
Yeah but if you look at the FF7 Remake DF thread, you'll know how weak the Switch's CPU is to be able to rund properly jiggling boobs

There was zero chance a 1:1 remake would happen the second they released FF7: Advent Children.

A whole generation grew up with that depiction of the world and characters, they weren't going to make a remake with the same battle system with HD graphics after that.

They had to go big and lean on spectacle.

absolutely, i remember i play dissidia game on PSP back then with classic command system, and it was fun, mix of turn base and action, i wish FF7 should be more or less like this rather than a kingdom heart wannabe

So you think it should have been exactly the same game, just with modern graphics? No new perspectives, no quality of life improvements, no new gameplay ideas, just the same game with better visuals? Why?
It is debatable whether Square Enix has done it justice, but why would I want to buy the exact same game again i already own multiple times.

What do you mean by 1 to 1?

Do you mean everything exactly the same except graphics? I.e. sames camera angles, world map and turn based combat?

Or do you expect a bit more? Like full 3D camera, seamless open world and voice acting.

I think very few people actually wanted the former. Despite what the vocal minority say the fanbase is very happy with the Remake games. Only major point of contention is plot changes really.

What the fuck is the point of a 1:1 remake

It worked out really well for Metal Gear Solid Delta though ...

Absolutely nobody talked about it a week after it's release and it's sales and word of mouth have been piss poor.

That's what creative bankruptcy looks like.

Best training method to understand how to make the thing you are remaking.
See Hunter Thompson copying entire Fitzgerald novels or art students going to museum to copy painting.
Other than that it is quite useless.

maybe they even surpassed the original.
You mean they managed to add more depth than the guy totally changing from nice guy to complete psycho over the course of a single night ? What an incredible accomplishment lol.

People dont understand that its impossible to do 3d camera for a game like ff vii without expanding ut like crazy.
Eaxctly. The amount of extra assets you have to create is staggering. Created this way it would probably still need to be 2 games.

Remake and Rebirth are 250gb already. People bitch about Rebirth textures but high Resolution textures would add even more storage.

If you want the entire game released at once well something would have to give somewhere.

I think something like the upcoming dragon quest 7 remake would have been possible. But people would bitch that's not doing the legendary ffvii justice either.

Yes possibly like Dragon Quest 11 but that would still be mammoth game. ( I originally thought Rebirth would be like Dragon Quest 11).

Personally I miss fixed camera angle games. A dream for me would be if they remade FF6 or Chrono Trigger with Fixed camera angles with modern graphics.

It's the problem with Square Enix: they can't get out of their own way. They could have printed money with a proper remake. Instead, they just had to make a sequel.

I've got FFVII on my Steam Deck, and I've made peace with that being the best version we're ever going to get.

I would think if you combine a relatively complete playthrough of Remake and Rebirth, well over half of the time will have been spent on padding content. Probably over two thirds will have been spent on padding content and entirely new narrative elements combined.

The Remakes are so superior to the original in every way imaginable, except a few pacing issues here and there. Better graphics, better music, better characterization, better combat, better everything.

The only thing the OG has better is the advantage of being in the right hardware at the right time, and better pacing. On everything else, it gets absolutely annihilated by the remakes.

All that said, Rebirth did Cid dirty. Hopefully part 3 will do a better job.

My view so far is the story is not better, but it's somewhat hard to judge when the 'Remake' trilogy is a pseudo-sequel which would be nonsensical in a universe where FF7 OG didn't already exist, and without the trilogy being complete yet.

For instance, OG Aerith's death is one of the most iconic moments in gaming. If OG never existed and the world's first experience with Aerith's death was as it is presented in Rebirth, there might be intrigue about wtf is even going on in this story, but I don't think it would be held in anything like the same regard. The response would primarily be confusion rather than the impact from the OG. The purity of that moment is traded for -and I would suggest significantly undermined by- the mystery of the newly introduced narrative elements.

Ffvi and chrono is a no brainer with octopath graphics.
