Highguard Debuts on Steam with a peak CCU of 97k and 21% positive reviews

I'm more shocked that it is a 3 vs 3. For a game that involves flying, horse riding, you expect that the maps would be huge and epic.
Thats probably why they didnt tell gamers till launch it's 3 vs 3. Gamers would had grilled it all month since first announced at the Game Awards.

Yesterday while at work i saw that it was releasing in less than 24 hours and i looked for gameplay in YouTube but all i got was influencers telling me how great the game was.

And i knew it would be crap because that's what you do when you have a shitty game. You don't show it yourself to your customers, you pay these morons to tell the rest of the morons how fun their experience was.

Shitty tactics for a crappy game.

I legitimately think if the game went from 3v3 to 12v12 and you changed basically nothing else it'd instantly become a much better game.
Crazy take.

The game is clearly designed around tight teamplay and strategy. They want you to be able to map out where all 5 other players are in a team fight. A 12 v 12 mode would just be goofy chaos imo. It's also not like the game lacks for action. You're constantly fighting in this.

Yeah, constantly fighting boredom.

It's reaching kiss of death levels ehere those curious won't be able to play due to low player count.
3v3 was the right answer afterall

You know whats funny? The marketing people are the only ones that did their job. Their job was to make the game visible and make people enough interested to download it. From there the Game/Art Directors took the helm and they failed utterly. The ideea of the game in principle is interesting, but the execution god no…50% of the time your are traveling through the map without any type of action.

So, kudos to the MK people…

Yup.

Marketing people can always make dry content into exciting trailers. No different than movies. But they can only make do with what they got.

A game or movie can be pretty boring or have a much different focus than the real game (No Man's Sky was another where they didnt show anything about wandering around mining rocks), but they sure know how to make a 1-2 minute trailer be action packed.

A lot of common issues.... empty maps that are too big, performance issues, 3 vs 3 is too few gamers
Basically my negatives on the game. More POIs around the maps with different stuff to get/do, better performance and more players per game. Do that and it would actually be pretty good. 3 players ain't a raid.

I was shocked when I realized it was 3v3, what a weird design choice unless they were originally doing a Battle Royal and pivoted.

3 vs 3 seems a wise choice considering how fast player count is dropping, at least 6 players should be still playing after a month or so.

PvP shooter where you have only three enemies to shoot at, and you spend most of the time riding your little horsie anyways because the maps are overly massive.

Who could have seen this coming.

That's alot higher that I would have expected, frankly... But the reception is beyond awful. Far worse than I would have guessed.
I wonder if it's entirely deserved or if people are giving the game shit because there's a prejudicial dislike against it.

Crossplay is not balanced at all. Immediately turns me off.

The gameplay loop isn't bad per se but just feels a bit empty and bland. Not sure whether it's the map design or not.

Also think respawn timer is way too long and revive is OP

If you changed the game to 6 v 6, and you made the walls take twice as much damage, and you adjusted the respawn timers and spawns a bit, why wouldn't this still work? Do you really feel that there are no adjustments they could make to the standard game that would allow for a much more casual friendly 6 v 6 mode?

Managed to play a few games.

I have no skin in the game as I don't play any BRs or online shooters.

It's not fun. Moment to moment gameplay is largely aimless busywork. It feels empty. Perhaps it takes off with well coordinated teams, but it needs to offer more.

There's an all consuming feeling of pointlessness.

I think the majority of the criticisms are legitimate. Performance is rather poor even on cards released a couple years ago. The 3v3 on huge maps is mentioned in many reviews.

The game does have some decent ideas but first impressions are massively important for this genre. Plus the devs strangely saying they don't care about having high player counts is terrible messaging.

I think it will go up to around 50k again. Many people havent tried it out yet even though the word of mouth is very bad, people will still check it out. But its gonna be a steady decline from now on. I think it will bottom out around 10-15k with spikes on the weekend for the near future.

No chance.
