Microsoft Gaming Revenue Q2: Gaming (-9%), Hardware (-32%), Content and Services (-5%); Operating expenses increased driven by impairment charges

This is the type of news I like to see.

Excellent news

Microslop doing serious damage to their brands all in the name of AI that no one really cares for.

I wonder where Xbox would be today if they didn't abandon exclusivity and didn't bother with GamePass.

Man… those numbers are rough.
Gaming down 9%, hardware absolutely face-planting at –32%, and even content/services slipping 5%. And on top of all that, expenses shot up because of impairment charges? Yikes.

This doesn't look like "a slow quarter," it looks like Xbox is hitting every bump in the road at once. Hardware sales cratering means people just aren't buying the consoles, Game Pass isn't growing enough to cover the drop, and costs going up at the same time… that's the worst combo you can get.

For all the hype about acquisitions and "the future of Xbox," the numbers are saying the opposite. It feels like the division is stuck and bleeding while trying to pretend everything's fine.

How does it comes that MS name the revenues of their cloud services only in combination with other services?
Aren't the cloud services the huge success they want their share holders to believe?
Maybe because Copilot (web) is still stuck at 1% market share?

And the Xbox is dead..
They want to pump other divisions that look way worse. If they single them out investors will demand action.

AI is the future we really can't compete with AI it's advancing too fast we can try to fight it but only a foolish company would sit back & let everyone else advance while they ignore it. Sadly it's going to kill a lot of jobs

Most of Sony games are now on PC and Steam Machines and handhelds with no online multiplayer fees. So are Orion and Canis worthless?
It's crazy how little you know about the gaming market yet you hop in all these threads spreading nonsense about gaming cloud hours.

There will always be a market for consoles because not everyone wants to deal with the BS on PC. Xbox has put their games on PS making PS the obvious pick for anyone looking to buy a console. It's that simple. Amazing you cant figure that out.

Maybe he'll buy a PlayStation if you threaten to beat him up.

Isn't MS supposed to be the biggest juggernaut in gaming now? Even as a third party they still fail, lol.
If you take a step back, it's more about who survives and who doesn't. My money is on Nintendo simply because they know who to sell to. Sony and Xbox software have more or less imploded across the board.

OS wise I think Google will want to muscle out Microsoft as the top dog. It's a little batshit crazy to expect enterprise corporations to abandon Microsoft, though. It's easy to talk shit on the internet but you'll be laughed out of the room by anyone remotely serious in IT in real life.

Lol, not even top 3. That comment is comparing what Sony publishes, so yeah, they are bigger than them, but Sony still makes more money, along with EA, Epic and Take 2.

Sony's stock looks fucking grim, bro. They'll be making affordable washing machines instead of PlayStations one of these days.

I think they can turn it around.
That's physically not possible without hardware. PS5 and Series X is ancient shit a while ago.

NVIDIA has a gap to enter the console space. Nobody will think twice before dipping into that action, if you want loyalty, buy a dog.

Well, what do they expect. They raised the price on hardware and Game Pass, by a lot, and started releasing their most popular games on other platforms. There's virtually no reason whatsoever to buy an Xbox today. I don't know why anyone does, to be honest. They don't have a cheap Series S anymore, and Game Pass is not as affordable as it once was.

lol so they ported everything to PS5, saw a 30% decline in hardware, and still managed to sell fewer games. Had Phil done nothing, they wouldve probably posted better numbers.

What a joke Phil Spencer has become. Every decision he's made has blown up in his face. A true jackass. One of the worst executives of all time, if not the worst. Literally ran Xbox to the ground.
Multiplatformism is degenerative.

Similar things will happen to Sony if they do not course correct.

Pretty dreadful quarter. It didnseem obvious as to the state of Xbox gaming when even with Activision they were basically at a standstill/declining the last couple of quarters( if you subtract the Activision added revenue).

Their best bet is to abandon hardware completely, train the fat and remove non-performing studios and start fully leaning on third party deals with platform holders. Do they still have the cod deal that Activision had with Sony? If not, re-negotiate.

They have a couple of big releases this year and they have a good chance to perform extremely well. So next quarters have a chance of doing better if we ignore the hardware part of the buisness.

Finally no wonder they didn't have the budget for year-in reviews and celebrations.
