Microsoft FY25 Q3 Earnings - Gaming Revenue up 5%, Hardware down 6%, Content and Services up 8% Driven by GamePass, CoD and Minecraft

No one who actually uses GamePass ever says 'free' unironically, it's just the folks who try to use it as a gotcha in the 'they don't buy games' argument.

I know today will have been tough for you, but don't try and rewrite history here. You don't speak for everyone.

Or do you?

I was questioning why Microsoft's position is unique.
How unique is it really?
Valve already have everything Microsoft have, and plans to have, except being an industry giant on publishing.
A multi device ecosystem, Play Anywhere, online gaming, achievements, OS made for the living room, desktop launcher, handheld. And Steam "consoles" are coming going by online rumblings. They also have their own VR hardware and ecosystem.
What's so unique?

What's unique and what is different are the same thing. Guess I'm not following your point.

This can't be true. They must have given some kind of guidance on HW for next quarter.
They didn't lol.

I don't think you guys are understanding these results. They are not saying they grew revenue by 5% in three months. It's 5% year-on-year growth.
I never understand why people who don't understand what %YOY means try to come in and pontificate on how much they understand the stock market and you don't.

If I don't know something I either say "I don't know someone help me understand" or I shut up lol. It's not hard rofl.

In hindsight, those results were not great for gaming, huh?

Also there's no hardware forecast for Q4 (at least not that I know of) and I can see why.

I really wonder how many Xbox Series consoles MS will sell in the next four quarters. Another 30% drop would bring the total from 4.9m to around 3m but now with the additional price hike announced today .... Looks really, really bad for Xbox ... :messenger_open_mouth:

I can't see things dropping 30%. That's just too nuts. Especially with GTA6 coming out. I predict a 20% drop MAX! Maybe even 15%.

Isn't it similar to Valve?
Not 1:1 but they both have a store, a launcher, an OS. Valve have a handheld, MS is rumored to launch one. MS have a console, Valve is rumored to launch Steam machines. MS have Xbox cloud, Valve let users access games on GeForce Now. MS owns lots of studios though. But Valve have a bigger store. Etc. It's fairly close even though Valve isn't doing much publishing, yet,

Valve hardly releases games consistently though. But ona technical level your right. They just might not be in the same ball park for software.

Even tho sometimes GP's value does seem too good to be true.
Sure, easy to say that when you never stay subbed all year for $20/month. I wouldn't be surprised the most you've paid for a whole year is $20. You people took advantage of every single trick to get the thing for peanuts, $1 conversions, Pringles and cereal free months promos, the membership program whatever it was called? and then you go preaching about "value". You're hilarious. It would say pathetic if you didn't give me the impression you're broke.

Yeah it's essentially the big publisher position that makes them stand out a bit. But otherwise they're like Valve without a popular store and launcher and handheld and VR ecosystem.
I don't think it's right to hype up their position, they're extremely dependent on someone else doing good right now since they're using other store's popularity to better sell their games (Steam and PlayStation right now), they can't do it on their own.

It's all a matter of how much you value your own time and your (very short) mortal lifespan

If your time is literally worthless, then you might find it worthwhile to do that shit just to get $1 subs to Gamepass. I have too many things I want to do with my life to ever consider doing that kind of shit

This, really shouldn't bother you this much.
