[KeplerL2] PS Portal OLED Version coming this year

"I hope they delay the PS6 and release this PS6 instead" :messenger_grinning_sweat:

OLED 120hz 1080p screen + wifi 7, that will be great upgrade for current portal. Maybe price target at 229$~249$
While it's not a Sony product, the base version of the similarly named Odin2 Portal handheld was reduced in price down to $250 for the past few days and it pretty much meets your requirements but... it just sold out completely today:messenger_grinning_sweat:

And yet, people keep asking who is the PS Portal for and why did Sony make it....
In my opinion PS5 is incomplete without Portal now because it becomes a hybrid of home console & handheld.

Turns out Sony was a step ahead of me & made their own device instead of focusing on Phones & Tablets

What does that prove?
It's like the Android ecosystem vs iPhones.

Xbox is trying to become the Android/Windows open ecosystem of devices vs Sony trying to become like Apple, closed ecosystem based on brand power.

You can only play Sony Cloud Gaming on one single handheld device, eventually two, when Canis drops. You can play Xbox Cloud Gaming on any handheld device, native or streaming handhelds, both windows and android. Even Linux (SteamOS) ones.

So my point is, comparing PS Portal sales to Logitech G Cloud sales is a dumb comparison, and they should feel bad for making it.

Hun? It's sold out? I just ordered it two days ago. I just went on the website and you can still add it to cart.

no it isn't. Portal is an accessory. It isn't competing with full stand alone systems.

More tribal shit
Not sure what tribal shit you are seeing, that is just the differentiating philosophy of the two companies. They each have a strategy they're executing on. Unless and until Sony expands Cloud Gaming, the analysis stands.

Not everyone uses those standalone systems as standalone, that's the point. It's a mix of things. I can decide to play natively on a Xbox Ally, or stream Helldivers 2 from xCloud.

Anyways, doesn't matter. But one thing is clear, Logitech G Cloud is NOT a direct competitor to PS Portal. It's just one competitor from an ecosystem of devices.

You do realize that Remote Play works on Android, iPhones , Macs & PCs right?

The Base model for $249 is what's sold out. They will probably restock, unless they're trying to clear out inventory in preparation for Odin 3 Portal. Ayntec likes to make their devices in limited batches, so they don't lose money.

I can still add the base model to cart though, maybe it stops you when you checkout or something.

In any case, i am glad i ordered mine two days ago. It does seem they are clearing stock.

I will probably order the Odin 3 portal when they release that in a year or two

I was referring to PS+ Premium PS5 Cloud Gaming. Cloud Gaming brings new blood into the ecosystem. Remote Play doesn't bring any additional profits to Sony from someone already in their ecosystem.

Google AI says this:
odin 2 release date
The original Ayn Odin 2 was released in late 2023 (around August/October), with early backers getting theirs in December 2023, but AYN has since shifted focus to newer models like the Odin 2 Portal (launched early 2024) and the upcoming Odin 3, with the Odin 2 effectively discontinued as of early 2026. The Odin 2 was a powerful Android handheld, superseded by refreshed versions and the next generation.
Key Dates & Models:
    • Odin 2 (Original): Announced/Launched August 2023, with units shipping December 2023.
    • Odin 2 Portal: Launched early 2024, featuring upgrades like an AMOLED screen, with a limited sale in early 2026 before discontinuation.
    • Odin 3: The next generation, with pre-orders and shipments underway (as of early 2026).
So, while the first Odin 2 came out in late 2023, the product line has evolved, with the Portal being a refresh and the Odin 3 being the current focus for AYN.

So it seems Odin 2 Portal will be discontinued soon. The Odin 2 Portal had released 6 months after Odin 2. So likely won't be longer wait than 7-8 months for 3 Portal.

What do you plan to use the device for?

You do realize that Remote Play works on Android, iPhones , Macs & PCs right?
I'm always surprised at how well remote play works on my MacBook Pro, to the point where I sometimes preferred it over native.

Most people focus on phones and tablets, but streaming to a laptop is very underrated.

It is tribal shit because it is trying to reinvent the console war. Portal factually has more in common with G Cloud than Xbox Ally, but even then, again, it is an accessory. Why are we even talking about this when the subject is simply a new OLED version?

Cloud Gaming is meant to eliminate Console Wars by eliminating the need for hardware thus reducing barrier to entry. However,, Sony found a way to still require mandatory hardware for Cloud Gaming. Content, Ecosystem, subscription wars will continue to exist regardless, that is the future competition. Portal has more in common with the Logitech G Cloud, yes, but Logitech G Cloud doesn't represent the competing platform, is all I'm trying to say.

So if saying the PS Portal sells 80x the Logitech G Cloud makes y'all feel good, then have at it.

Anyways, what will be the likely pricing of the OLED model? $249 or $299?

Ps2 and below emulation.

Been hearing about game hub, so will probably try playing some of my steam library on it.

I always preferred playing handheld.

Man, I can't wait for an Odin 3 portal. Only reason I didn't go for Odin 3 was 6 inches is too small for me.

In the meantime, I have the Odin 2 portal to test drive, when it arrives. If it pans out well, definitely picking up an Odin 3 portal

"Content, ecosystem, subscription wars"

Like I said, reinventing the console war. That's all you. Couldn't care less about that mess. Frankly, I'm glad Sony is slow rolling their cloud presence. Console customers shouldn't be treated like second class citizens. If/when Sony does shift priorities away from their hardware then they will lose a lot of customers, including me. A lesson Xbox has already taught us.

Either way, I never said a thing about Portal outselling G Cloud meaning anything so drop the "ya'll".

Anyways, what will be the likely pricing of the OLED model? $249 or $299?

Probably $299. Everything is more expensive than it should be these days.

I love my portal but the screen def needs an upgrade. More than that though, this thing needs stick adjustments..I fookn hate how loose they are.

Your right, it seems to be coming back into stock intermittently. Hopefully AYN ship the Portal out to us before they shutdown for Chinese new year:messenger_grinning_sweat:
Yeah I ordered it two days ago and all I have gotten is an email confirmation right after I ordered. Any experience with them? How long do they usually ship out orders?

Granted, this might be a special scenario since they probably have a huge influx of orders

I was comparing a cloud only device to another cloud only device.

They re usually pretty good about shipping. You could be right about the influx jamming things up right before Chinese New Year though, hard to say.

Did you get the 8GB or the 12GB? Because if it's the latter, you won't even need to worry about waiting for the Odin 3 Portal unless you are specifically trying to run beefy PS3 emulation or AAA PC via Gamehub/Gamenative. The raw horsepower of the SD Elite will only really benefit those two use cases, and currently the GPU drivers are in shambles, so it's actually a regression for many emulators at the time of this writing.

Who says the bolded is true? I think what Sony did was create a business case as to why the bolded has failed so far with the competitors' goals. And I didn't bring up the 80x thing just to make myself feel good. You seem to be missing the point. The point is making an OEM hardware model would have been great for Microsoft for Xcloud and Gamepass had they did it years ago.

Why are they pissing so much time away? How and why did they miss the boat on this? These are interesting questions that Youtubers and us on GAF should be discussing. If the goal is to reduce the barrier to entry, but also to maximize profits and expand your Xbox ecosystem, the option to make your own hardware was right there!

In 2020/2021, Microsoft could have even made a cheap Xcloud device that plugs into your TV for $100 (with no controller).
