Capcom removes Denuvo from RE4

Not sure how that will affect performance if at all but it could be interesting. With RE8, Denuvo was the culprit behind the game hitching every time an enemy died, and the insane performance drop when one of those vampire sisters grabbed you and vomited bugs on you or w/e. Was very annoying.

Just sharing the news incase there's some people that didn't buy based on the game having Denuvo.
Denuvo was not responsible for the performance drops, it was an additional unrelated DRM Capcom added. Not playing the devil's advocate, but Denuvo was not to blame in this case.

If this is true, then Denuvo hurts performance less than Enigma Protector? I know there's a lot of channels that are just grifters thriving from generating negativity, and I've never heard of this YouTuber.....are there credible tech channels that can corroborate this?

More like, Enigma decreases average frame rate more than Denuvo. But Denuvo increases stutters during asset loading.
The better option would be to have none of these malware.

Weve gone full circle cuz now i doubt pretty much all creators who farm drama.

The major tech channels don't touch on this subject, perhaps because it involves talking about piracy. I remember Digital Foundry doing it once, but that was many years ago.

Yeah I remember that one, was an interesting vid.

I wish Hardware Unboxed or Level One Techs, at least, would have a look at it. Maybe Gamer's Nexus? Anyone who's not afraid of kickin up a hornet's nest every once in a while. I'm big on Level One Techs, and they for sure don't fear anything from big companies, it'd be nice if they did an in depth analysis of this stuff, but I don't do social media so there's no reason why they or anyone else would listen to me if I brought it up.

Anyone here with a decent following on one of the platforms wanna reach out to any of those folks and see if they're interested in doing a video comparing Denuvo, Enigma, and DRM-less?

Lmao but at least capcom is going to allow for fake DLSS frames to make up for the performance price of their poorly implemented malware DRM in RE9.

At this rate the PS5 Pro version might run path tracing better than PC

In case this hasn't been answered, I tested it last night.

Before removal I was getting 60-75 fps at 4K native and Max Settings, and getting occasional hitching

After removal I'm getting 56-72 fps at 4K native and Max Settings, and getting either no hitching or it's so infrequent I'm not noticing

So unfortunately unless hitching specifically is your biggest pet peeve this is basically just swapping one minor issue for another and not a net improvement.

RE4 ran great for me at least, I've honestly never really had problems with a game with Denuvo that I'd attribute to Denuvo specifically.

and i just recently bought it for 20€ in the steam winter sale.. fuck me.. i mean.. fuck CAPCOM :)

I mean, RE4 Remake is still an amazing game, just don't run it at 4K unless you have a 4080 or better and you'll be good.
I have a 4090 and a 1440P display :D
Was looking forward to getting an OLED but too many downsides (VRR flicker, burn in, etc) and also the new Pulsar tech does not work with OLEDs :(

Can't speak for the VRR issue, but burn in really isn't a thing on OLED monitors anymore as long as you use the screen care features they come with and don't leave them on for long stretches of time.

I bought this last year and it's easily been my favorite monitor with the best image quality.

No, Denuvo itself wasn't the problem. The way CAPCOM implemented it was the problem. The game continued to have Denuvo after Capcom fixed the implementation and performance was then fine.

Okay, so by your own admission, Denuvo can cause issues? Why are we accepting a completely needless point of failure for a game's performance?
