Capcom removed Denuvo for another DRM, and it makes the game run up to 50% worse

How is it legal to essentially ruin a product someone bought from you, remotely, after sale? I have trouble believing that there isn't some consumer protection mechanism that could bring Capcom to heel if only it were invoked.
Microsoft does it all the time.

The critical question is will they use it in RE 9 and pragmata? Because if so they will have another monster hunter wild performance disaster and I for sure won't be buying their games on pc

Neither would be ideal, but if performance is worse with Enigma, then back to Denuvo, yes.

The problem is that Denuvo has more stutters. So pick your poison.
But in reality, there is no reason for Capcom to do this. Most studios remove DRM, mainly Denuvo, after one or two years, because most sales are already made.

I'm so glad I lost my steam account. It made me realize that I can just [continue paying money for video games as is required by law in many countries]. Now my wallet is [emptier since I don't pirate games or break any laws] and I don't have to feel like a sucker.

That looks like it costs more than any perceived losses occurred through pirating.
Initially no, but afterwards when sales drop yes.

That's why normally they pay that during launch and when sales drop off to the point where that 25K costs a significant chunk of tail end sales they drop Denuvo entirely. Capcom has been doing it for some time with games like RE Village already. SE too with games like Just Cause and Forspoken. I don't remember if they replaced it with Enigma in the past though and I bought RE4R on PS5 for the VR so I've not experienced the performance hit on PC to see how it compares to their past games.

While I'm certainly not defending swapping out the old DRM for a new one instead of just getting rid of it all together, I call complete BS on 50% worse, I'm getting on average 6 fps less at the same settings as before, and I don't even have a brand new rig, it's a 3080ti and a 5800X, this sounds like a handful of people overly exaggerating the problem so that they don't look like clowns when they say overly dramatic things like "unplayable".

Yeah this is fucking shit. Pirates have the best version without Denuvo or Enigma DRM. Paying customers who have a legit version on Steam like me get fucked.

I changed my review to negative. Fuck Capcom for this bs

What I don't get is why the DRM is hogging the VRAM? We need regulations against that shit.

I notice that is becoming a thing. Apps that should not use VRAM are hogging it.

true, unfortunately that mode never got a pro patch. Sony should pay Capcom to do a RE super duper VR pack with RE2,3,4,7,8,9 with pro support and everything and release them in 1 SKU
Honestly looked fine a week ago when i tried

I mean good thing can also be better, PSSR vr support came way later so its fair that they never gone back to patch it now but Pro freed up 1 extra gig of vram where they could have added the ultra texture from the PC version for it since PSVR mode doesn't have RT. Higher res texture would be greatly beneficial for VR mod since it is in first person and those texture were already created on PC, or even a 90fps native mode with the extra GPU headroom.

Just finished the game yesterday. Didnt noticed any performance hits, but i was not playing with unlocked FPS so cant really tell. My problem was with rockstar DRM called Social Club that straight up refused to let me launch RDR2 that i bought on steam. All atempts to contact rockstar support ended in failure, Steam also refused to issue a refund cuz i bought the game more than 14 days ago. I managed to find a crack to bypass the rockstar launcher but i cant launch the game from Steam, need to use the launcher.exe included with the cracked files. (This mean no steam achievements, cloud saves, no Dualsense support, or online play)

Its ironic that these DRM are only hurting legit buyers while ppl can just pirate these games and have a better experience for free. Now i know i cant buy any more rockstar games from steam, cuz they will not even launch.

Yup, ive bought rdr2 3 times, 1x steam, 1x epic, 1x their own launcher, have 5 accounts in total for it, absolute hassle to deal with if you somehow get lucky enough for it to launch and don't get kicked out of the game, the singleplayer campaign was even offline for half a month a few years back, just when i wanted to play it. Pirates don't have to deal with any of that crap and have a fully functioning game with 0 issues.

Their shitty launcher/drm pretty much guarantees i will never buy any of their products again.

I hate all these launchers. Valve should crack down on them.

I dont think Japanese people know that their games are being pirated lmao. There is absolutely no reason to add DRM to the game at this point so I'm convinced they're clueless on all PC aspects including piracy.

Can you replace the normal exe in your steam folder with the cracked version?
In most cases that's how it works. It may be specific to the version; example: Steam, Epic Store, MSStore, Etc.

Your rig is still great. Imagine someone running a first generation Ryzen and a 1050ti, or even worse. These people will be affected much more. And while some here will point out that they have ancient rigs and they should upgrade, that's still Capcom's fault for having the game run worse than it did on the same hardware.

smh, some of you a brave to buy a Capcom game on PC...

I don't trust them enough for that lol

Why would they be playing Resident Evil 4 Remake on a 1050ti? The rig doesn't matter, that's why I made a point to say same settings before and after, everyone applies the update equally, so at the same settings it should be be an equivalent performance drop.

Why would someone not play the game on a low spec PC or a steam deck if it ran fine before the update? There was even a demo to gauge performance, it's certainly not people's fault if the spec requirements changed over a year later after they already had purchased the game. And it's certainly not equal, the worse your PC the less cycles you have to spare for DRM and the more performance you will lose on top of having less headroom to keep a playable framerate.

It's funny to me that now the choice is between hating Sega for having permanent Denuvo in their games or hating Capcom for switching to an even worse DRM

Funny, I never thought I would consider pirating a game I already own.
Same... I might actually have to do that if they don't fix it anytime soon. I played through the main story, but I never did separate ways yet.

The game didn't run the best on my 3070Ti already in areas, now it'll be even worse?

Stuff like this should be suable. "Degrading performance for previous purchasers for no reason other than for the benefit of the publisher/developer"

Pretty much saying screw our paying customers.

Probably some great salesperson from Enigma's company approached Capcom.

And if Capcom wonders why they haven't sold me RE4 remake there might be reasons such as that I already have an unplayed digital license on PS5.

But I'm still looking forward to try a DRM-free version on PC someday

Previous EXE with Denuvo and removal of Enigma DRM with blank .pak file.

Restores mod support. We shouldn't have to do this but at least it's something.

Edit: Thanks for the Gold grvg grvg !

You can always buy the game (thanks for supporting the industry) and then acquire an offline installer for your purchased content. It's more akin to jumping on a house boat for a quick night of casino fun VS setting sail on the high seas.

Holy shit. That is a 33% loss in performance.
Capcom really screwed up hard with this one.

Even worse in cutscenes

But more or less the same in heavy gameplay

But this was with 3600, better CPU will probably show bigger differences in gameplay as well (when CPU limited)

Chaos Gate Daemonhunters still has it and that's been out for over two years. Not to mention it's a small game by I think, a small developer. How the fuck are they affording $25,000 a month?

If you already bought the game, Capcom secured that sale and can't refund it.

So why would they care if it negatively affects you?

Besides that not like there are that many sales left on the table (relative to how many units it's sold to date).
Then why not just use Steam DRM and not kill performance? Game is out on pirate sites anyways. This only hurts paying customers and will sour people more on future Capcom releases.

This is a completely idiotic move that doesn't actually do jack shit other than piss off people.
