Nioh 3 |OT| Oh Fuck, You're Gonna Make Me Burst Counter

I need to finish my second Nioh 2 run before I dive into Nioh 3. Just got to the dream. Hopefully mods for Nioh 3 reworking others for the same engine will make it a more pleasant experience when I hop in.

The Nioh games were already known for offering tons of weapons choices, plus a variety of stances to change up the pace of combat. Thanks to a new Ninja form, Nioh 3 outright doubles the number of weapon choices. That makes 14 total weapons you can wield, which can be a tough choice. This video will break down how each one functions, plus name a few core stats and skills to really showcase what it can do.

I'm enjoying it, but not gonna lie... The game being so easy has me pretty disappointed. So far the hardest boss has been the first boss and everything afterwards has been pretty easy.

Hopefully the challenge picks up a bit later.

Just as I thought playing the demo, Ninja is a cheat code. I feel like an endgame Nioh 2 Ninja build already. I will be shocked if it doesn't get nerfed. Either that or they need to do an across the board buff to enemy HP and damage. I'm still loving it but I would love it even more if I was actually worried about dying at all.
Loving the game, but man, it's easy
Yeah, it'd definitely easier and being a completionist makes it even more so. On one hand I want to run from mission to mission so I take them on at a reasonable challenge, on the other I have an innate need to completely clear an area before I leave. It's probably my only real issue with the game at this point, but I'm hoping the NGs bring the challenge back. I'm 7 zones in and by far the hardest enemy has been the Bloodedge Demon.
I have the Nioh 2 plat and was one trophy away from the Nioh plat, I've championed this series since it's inception. It didn't take NG+ to get a sense of challenge in either Nioh 1 or 2, they were hard as nails from the start with with the sense of danger and overcoming odds that is a hallmark of all Souls-likes. FROM's "one and done" experiences are better than 99% of the games out there so I really couldn't care less how much NG+ has to offer. In fact, I care very little for NG+ in general because very few devs do it right and once you've seen the game you've seen the game. So while Nioh does do a good job of NG+ games are to be judged what they offer beginning to end on the initial playthrough, anything after that is icing on the cake.
On one hand I get it, the first playthrough should be harder. On the other, Nioh diehards know that the first playthrough is basically pre-season ball. There is so much in terms of items, enemies, mechanics, and just overall changes in gameplay that a person who only beats it one time is basically playing a completely different game. Saying you should judge Nioh by it's first playthrough is a very casual look at this series because it's not just "icing on the cake" it's core to the experience of the series and isn't just tacked on like most games, it's literally designed to be played multiple times.

I'm aware, I've done NG+ in previous games, the point still stands, any and every game should be judged on it's core first playthrough, anything after that - if done well - would add half a point at most if you were scoring it. Sounds comical to suggest one should play a game from 50-100 hours, start NG+ and *then* say judge the game, let's keep it real.

The second region properly ups the difficulty. First region was joke level
The lake region? Still piss easy. I beat that panther boss without breaking a swear.

I think they need to be more aggressive with the level scaling. It's like they set it for people who don't do any side content. The second region recommends level 19, but I was level 33 by the time I got there and destroying everything. Should have been level 25 or something.

doubt it, I barely use ninja, I just smash everything to bits with samurai, and they can't hurt me cause I can just block or deflect them; I mostly am in ninja when walking around because of enemy sensor.

I'm kind of breezing through the game quite easily this is surprising. Was expecting to be feeling Nioh2 level of difficulty.

Still enjoying but the difficulty drop is very noticable. Some of the early game bosses in N2 absolutely clapped my cheeks, I've not died to a boss yet outside of a controller battery death.

Difficulty feels fine, there's a few moments I been hung up but a few tries I get by. I'm glad they went with a more middle road, I did enough ball busting games platinumed already it's nice to enjoy the game and not be frustrated

Good game so far but my only gripe is the lack of a basic autosave which fucking Demons Souls had decades ago. May have worked when the game was super linear, but now when it takes some time to explore everything, if the game crashes or i forget to teleport to the shrine and rest, and quit, i lose all progress. Annoying.

Fine, yes indeed, but it is massively easier compared to the first two games bro cmon.

It's still good shit, just to be clear.

Yeah, I agree. I've also heard people complaining they were around 15-20 levels below the recommended and were still dominating bosses too. I think it's more to do with the crazy gear you end up getting.

Gear is very important as it's a Diablo type of game. You'll end up mass disassembling tons of gear and crafting/remodeling/soul matching your own at the Blacksmith.

Most of the challenge so far has been a couple bosses.

The game is definitely easier given all the ally summons spread out everywhere. Another factor in easy difficulty is you aren't stuck in a lot of small arena's or tight corridors so the open spaces give you a lot of breathing room.

Having a blast though.

I still ultimately prefer Yokai Shift over Living Artifact. I miss how dynamic each form was. LA just seems to be spam attacks and use Guardian Spirit attacks on cooldown.

I miss Yokai Brute form's Interrupt.

I went far north just to see how far I'd get. My armor wasn't very powerful. Still rocking the Hellfrost set. Ended up getting to a boss that just kept tearing away at my health. I figured I probably need to go level up my gear. I went down south and did the quest to level up your gear. Got my switchblade up to like 500 and my character feels good, but I'm out of money. To get my Hellfrost gear to a similar level I'm looking at 800,000 gold.

When people are talking about the first region. Are you talking about time periods? I'm finding out that the more of the world map you explore, the more powerful you get (duh). The more and more I explore, the better it gets. I've put about 18 hours into it and I'm about at a level 50.
There are short bursts of pure beauty. I hope the bosses live up to NiOh 2's uniqueness. Idk about names but the samurai battle in the garden, the toads, or the Ryu fight. I've fought that fire and ice combo boss (reused boss?). The boss I'm at does this shadow attack with an axe. Anyone else fight him? He like swings and then shadow swings. Damage was fine but my character's low level gear wasn't doing great. I don't regret exploring cause now I feel like I'll go back and put up a good fight.

These things were neat to see in the air. Reminded me of those scarabs from Elden Ring. Something to make the world feel more alive.

This game is like RoR but strip away the boring story stuff then add Yokai and make the map more condense. They basically took everything they have learn from Nioh 1-3, Wolong, and RoR, its amazing. Even the tech has the biggest upgrade yet, still kind of shitty but looks a lot better all their previous title, I commented on removing those res shadow in cut scenes for the alpha demo feedback, not sure if they read it but glad its gone.

Since this is not open-world or semi-open world, does it suffer from the same thing as ER? Meaning you can outlevel the enemy if you do everything or grind?

I mean you can do with any RPG including the first Dark Souls....in fact the only FROM you couldn't do was Sekiro and Armored core VI because those games weren't RPG.

Open world has nothing to do with, any RPG linear or not as long as it has leveling up system you can grind and become overlevel.

There is no grind in Elden Ring though.

One just moves to a different area with easier enemies.

The panther that flies from tree to tree? That's still first region.

you can grind if you want just like most RPGs but you don't need it to beat the game.
Not disagreeing with you, but I'd argue that in FROM's games there tends to be very deliberate grind spots which are intentional.
From Darkroot garden in DS1 to the Palace ledge-road in Elden Ring its always seemed to me that these areas are known early as grind spots, and never get patched or modified. Says to me definitely a feature, not a bug.

Of course it's not a bug, at end of the of FROM's Souls games are RPGs which give you the option for you to grind if you want.

I am having a good time but honestly, the game is too easy. There is barely any challenge. I have defeated 3 bosses without dying not even once man. Meanwhile in Nioh 1 I remember dying 30 times to the first boss in the ship

I've read that Bloodrage demon gets harder the more revenants you kill. He definitely felt like a nioh 1 or 2 boss.

Personally I'm glad a souls like has become easier for once. Honestly I was getting tired of constant escalating Difficulty in Souls-likes e.g. Khazan, Silksong and Nine sols. It was getting ridiculous and was gonna piss off players eventually if it hasn't already.

Personally the fun for me in Nioh 3 is experimenting with its HUGE sandbox of tools. I feel the easier difficulty lends itself to trying new toys and not being forced into a boring efficient playstyles just too make progress.

Saying that some bosses have been a challenge. Bloodrage demon, The crucible boss and the first boss all took me alot of attempts.

I just beat the demo after a good 7 hours. Honestly, as someone who never managed to get into Nioh (I've tried the first one multiple times) and only slightly enjoyed Wo Long, I gotta say they kinda nailed it with Nioh 3. It's the kind of fun that is addicting, and I would love to play more of it. People have said that it's too easy, but honestly I thought Nioh 1 was way too hard and one of the main reasons why I couldn't get into it lol. Apparently the difficulty does pick up later in this game according to some, but so far it's been challenging enough for me to still have fun. The Yakutsu Baba fight was tuned just right imo. The open world aspect also seems to work well in its favour.

Unfortunately the performance on my PC has been fucking *atrocious*. This game has no business running like shit while looking like that, and it's only barely playable, no matter what settings I choose. Only way I'll pick it up is if they patch it a hundred times and when it's on sale. I knew there was something off when this game is 60+ gigs despite looking blurry as shit.

Oh Lordy!

I'm digging the new time period after Act 1 though I'm endlessly amused that 90% of the enemies continue to be recycles from Nioh 1 & 2, lazy stuff. Luckily the combat is so damn good that I can give it a pass. Act 2 also opens up a cool mechanic that returns from both previous games, won't spoil it for those who are playing the series for the first time.

The enemies are types based on folklore and traditional depictions. So its less a case of them being recycled than being appropriate to the scenario.
I really think people under-appreciate TN's commitment to being historically consistent - at least in a canonical sense.

Yes its a fantasy version of Japanese history, but its quite clear at this point that they care about how they thread the fantasy through actual historic figures and legends.
Its not like most Souls games where they just take Mediaevel Europe as a base visual template for a dark fantasy story and just invent lore and enemies as they need them. Its all tightly focussed on a super-specific Japanese template.

I don't think they get enough credit for this, as I think its a big reason why their games are so different to most Souls-likes.

The enemies are yokai and there are thousands of them. It's very much lazy of them to recycle the same few.

I've been in Japan 16 years now but thanks anyway lmao

And ? being resident in a country doesn't automatically make you a historical expert!
Or apparently have the wit to parse a qualifying clause from a statement of opinion about general creative direction.

Take that stick out of your tightly-puckered butthole, son.
Seriously, I really don't get why you felt the need to cop such a shitty attitude in reply to a mild post about creative intention.

lol, don't get your pantyhose in a bunch sweetheart, you've quoted me twice now and embarrassed yourself just as many times, maybe 3rd times the charm before you realize just how dumb you are? I've got all kinds of sticks for your asshole, keep pushing, it's making me hard 😙

You don't need to keep white-knighting the game, it's kind of pathetic. You can love something (as I love Nioh 3) and still give valid criticisms/point out it's flaws, try it sometime 👌

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize once you've had your say the relevant issue's closed and no alternative view-points or arguments are to be entertained!
And you think I'm "embarrassed" because you happen to disagree with me? You really need to check your fevered ego!

Again, I still do not get why you feel the need to be so hostile to somebody who wasn't even having a go at you!
Because that, that IS *embarrassing*.

Lol. What's with the nuclear bomb, it literally came out of nowhere. You're perhaps even worse than me :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Anyway, this game showed up on my radar. It does look technically dated... But I'm still intrigued. I think I'll just buy it. Wait, it's $80 for the standard version in the Steam store (Norway), wtf. Oh well, grey market it is then...

Edit: I played the demo, the game is not for me. But at the same time, I completely understand why people enjoy the game.

I am level 41 and I am still in the first region. How is your progress going so far?

The map exploration is top notch. I am loving it and transmog along with automatically equipping best gear is a relief. I am loving not looking like a clown because of the constant gear change

Level 48 region 1 with about 20% left.

Exploration is great reminds me of dark souls more than anything. It's great how interconnected everything is, the map kinda ruins the thrill of connecting everything by yourself.

Yes I can't believe that I am praising the level design in a Nioh game but here we are. It reminds me a lot to Dark Souls as well. Team Ninja has nailed it
