Nioh 3 |OT| Oh Fuck, You're Gonna Make Me Burst Counter

Just unlocked this armor and it looks very cool

Sweet, looks awesome.

I'm playing the demo and I dunno - you guys say this game is easy, but it's kicking my ass so much. Maybe I'm just not good with action games.

It keeps telling me to press R1 at the right time while my gauge is refilling to get a boost, and I see the blue orbs and the animation thing when I seemingly get it right, but pressing it even at the correct time isn't doing anything and not boosting my gauge. Maybe I've just not figured out the timing?

I've practiced the burst counter move and that seems pretty efficient at wrecking house and letting you continue a chain of attacks for a bit. But I'm still getting hit a lot and leveling up doesn't seem to be doing much. I died multiple times in the tutorial levels before I even got the ability to level up. If I get too far away from the shrine I run out of elixirs and die.

Glad everyone is enjoying it, but I just don't think this game is for me.

For me I'm always just moving whether it's r1 or even a regular dodge I just keep moving then back up if I'm totally out of ki. It's really just a flow you get.

Always thin out enemies with bows if you can, a good head shot will kill most in a single arrow.

Take advantage of the summons, buffs etc. It all helps

It only works in Samurai as Ninja has teleport instead. It only restores Ki expanded on last move and speeds up recovery. You do it shortly after your attack lands or if you want to cancel into another move. I remapped my buttons to have it on L1 opposite quick attack on R1 and strong attack on R2 (with L2 as aim button, X as evade, [] as block, and O as burst).

well when benchmark is nioh 2 everything looks easy to be fair

Game is definitely on the easier side for these types of games but I'm having a lot of fun. Just unlocked parrying with Ninja swords. Feels great.

If you are in ninja it doesn't do anything, just makes you move in any direction you want.
You only restore your ki in samurai mode and you can do it at any time you see the particles, but the best timing is when the particles converge fully and slightly flash on your character; you know you did it right if you see a bunch of afterimages.

And small enemies don't have super armour, so just smash them, for the bigger enemies they only stagger if they are out of ki and their bar goes red, then you can go crazy until they restore their ki; so for large enemies be more cautious and dodge/block when you see them attacking. If you are bouncing of enemies because they are blocking, unlock the high stance for samurai, you'll never bounce of with high stance attacks, but they take more ki and are a bit slower.

They really need to update the lighting on their engine. Some interiors are just pitch black or too dark when there's literally sun lighting up the hell out of everything and not just the interios, but the shaded parts as well. Looks pretty bad when it's daylight.

just entered what I can only guess is the final big open area
Still having a blast, but I hate that I can't fully complete maps if you don't have the right spirit animal

Also, thank god for auto-pickup, too bad I only discovered it 25 hours in lol

i probly play entire game as ninja, rarely care about samurai mode atm, unless endgame set for samurai is good

Try keeping your Samurai as your last resort while using fast combat with Ninja. Samurai gets so much better once you dump like 25ish points into its weapon scale stat. I was primary Ninja until I dumped like 20-25 points into the Samurai. Samurai was there to hit from a distance. Now all I do is go to town with Samurai and then switch to Ninja for free projectiles/magic. Just dump all your points into a single stat that scales with your desired weapon.

Summing up what's easy and what's not depends on what your character can accomplish. I don't think anyone is doing a level 1 run. You gotta put some work into it.

Never say never. The way I learned was to screw any stat that didn't scale with my weapon. Get to those when you have a need (HP or Ki) for them. Even then you can get that from gear.

Needless to say if you plan to do everything in Nioh 3 (as I am) this is easily an 80-100 hour game.

I now only use Ninja form, the swift ballet of action combined with Ninjutstu shenanigans is so damn satisfying. Samurai is been there, done that plus other games have had more enjoyable parry/deflect mechanics anyway (most recently Wuchang, Team Ninja's own Rise of the Ronin and let's not even mention the God Sekiro). I do appreciate that the game allows the player to focus on only one form while also accommodating hybrid builds with various passive skills centered around form switches.

If you're only focused on one form then I suggest decoupling form switch with burst counter in the options. Also, Ninja passive that lets you dispel yokai pools is essential, normally you can only get rid of them with Ki pulse.

which is a good value for the price tag.

i want to make it clear about bloodedge demon, they said i can only kill 1 per day, but does this game has fix daily reset timer? or it's 24 hours since i kill the last bloodedge? IIRC nioh 1 and nioh 2 has fixed reset timer for these twilight mission

The game can look pretty good sometimes

I turned chromatic aberration and film grain on. I like how it looks in a game like this where the fidelity just isnt there so the super sharp look doesnt look that good. Those filters makes it look "dream like"

Yeah CA in this game does not look bad actually, is very subtle

The game performance is mediocre even on a high end config. Changing graphical presets does not seem to make much of a difference. I would expect to be able to maintain 120 FPS locked here but it doesn't seem the case.

I'm at the beginning, the maps are decently fun explore but the Ubisoft open slop design with icon infested maps is present to some degree. It's much better than Rise of the Ronin, but I'm disappointed they went in this direction. Semi-linear levels are much better for these kind of games.

I'm not a super fan of Ninja mode, but maybe I need to unlock some more skills to make it work as intended.

As for the rest, yep, this is Nioh, the combat system is still extremely fun and the equipment system still a mess of stats.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I love the way the open world is done in Nioh. There's zero chance of missing anything important.

I generally dislike open-world games, but this system makes it palatable and eliminates the need for me to use an interactive map on a tablet while playing the game.

So I tried this Nioh 3 game.
I don't see a single reason to play it while Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (with White mod) exist. NG2B is SUPERIOR in every way.

I'm already in the second region. In the previous one I grabbed all the main collectibles, but the remaining chests…

I'm level 60 and the game plays really well - honestly, it feels surprisingly easy. I think that's mostly because of the semi-open world, since a lot of the time I end up being overleveled, even though I'm not grinding at all. Sure, I still die (already racked up a few dozen deaths lol), but so far it feels like the easiest Nioh for me.

The Ninja style just didn't click with me at all. The mobility is great, ki basically isn't an issue, attacks are fast… but the damage feels too low for my taste. Either I don't really understand the style yet, or my build is just bad. I mostly use it to apply status effects with kunai (the fire ones are great, by the way) and to quickly take out archers.

I'm playing with odachi right now - at first it felt rough because it was absolutely murdering my stamina, but once I put some points into stamina-related stats, it became awesome.
Good defense, hits like a truck and staggers enemies very easily, especially human opponents.

I'm also testing the axe - super simple to use, damage is even higher than odachi, but the range is shorter and the defensive options are clearly worse.

And unfortunately… enemy recycling is pretty heavy. I get the feeling Team Ninja might have bitten off a bit more than they could chew with the semi-open world. The locations themselves are fine, but about 95% of the mobs are ones I've already seen in previous games. That includes a few bosses as well - I've already fought three of them before.

Barely played other nioh games, but im in the second region and its piss easy. Bosses go down first try without any problem. I dont even watch their hp bars, it just disappears. Maybe my 2h unga bunga build is too strong :D

first time i booted Nioh 2 i already got stomped by a giant Horse Yokai and after giving up on him a Monkey yokai got my ass handled to me just for me to get the "easier" path and enter a village full of ranged enemies.

Yeah this is my main issue with the game. I am enjoying it, the combat is a blast and the fights against bosses are very good, but man the game has been so easy, I barely die and I don't put much effort into the combat and yet I still win. They need to do some about this, maybe nightmare difficulty at some point with the DLCs so there is a good reason to come back

Starts Act 3, first 5 enemies that appear were already in Act 1 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, liking this time period, Crucible area in Act 2 was cool too, better than Act 1.

I arrived in region 3 and so far I´ve barely ever needed more than 2 tries for a boss, and outside of brainfart moments I´ve actually barely died at all.
Slowly but surely that difficulty should really ramp up a little. Yes there is NG+ and the other difficulty tiers, buuut NiOh 1 + 2 were much much harder right from the get go and I kinda liked that. I gotta admit that I´m also getting a bit disappointed by how few new enemies there seem to be in the game.

Have you fought Kunimatsu? The opening of the game boss early in region 3. That guy kicked my ass for 60min. Very satisfying to finally beat him

I'm struggling with bosses, is my build awful? I've got 16 points in Strength and Heart, while spreading everything else, my lowest start (intellect) is at 10.

Remember you can reset levels any time you want. I would get whatever stats you need for your equipment's effects, then dump everything else into the highest scaling stat for the weapon you're using. Maybe some extra in HP. At least for the earlyish game (~20 hr), that's what's worked best for me.

Alright, I'm giving my Ninja a break because the Caestus is dope as fuck. The beauty of 2 forms and so many weapons is being able to switch when things start to feel a bit stale and it's a whole new ball game.

Jesus christ some people are just built different... Im definitely gonna do ng+ with different build and weapon. Im stuck with 1 weapon and samurai stance only and there are so many other weapons, not to mention the whole new ninja style.

And some ll say that From games has the best combat.

Barring maybe Sekiro From games are just a step up from Elder Scrolls combat. The combat is very stiff, rigid, weighty and more grounded then Nioh combat. Especially with aerial combos in Nioh 3. Not saying it's bad just very basic.

Nioh plays more like a fighting game in motion and it's very prominent in the video with instant weapon swaps and class swaps and utilizing Guardian Spirit attacks as special moves that you can use to chain into other combos which is only limited by spirit force gain.

It's a good showcase of systems feeding into other systems that give Nioh the depth it does.

It took me almost three hours, but I finally made it to the game's title screen and the first zone lol

Yea no rush. I find it better the more and more you explore.

I had to switch back to Ninja for a boss. Got him after a couple tries. Anything with rapid decent damage as well as bursting at their Ki.

I think im near the end of my first playthrough, I´m back in the starting area and just beat the boss there which also was the first boss in the game I needed more than 2 attempts to kill, mostly because he`s "effect heavy" and I kept getting hit because I simply couldn`t see what was going on.
The game is still an absolute blast, I just love the team-ninja combat systems.
Buuut I continue to find this installment too easy. I´ve played around with a lot of weapons stumbling about like an idiot at times due to not knowing the movesets and yet I still barely died. I hope the endgame trials haven`t been nerfed, too.

Just arrived the second region and I feel like I already completed a full game but now you are telling me that there is another map with almost the same size? This is crazy
