You say that, but I don't think Nintendo's core audience are children anymore.

Nintendo understand that their core audience now are the kidults. The adults with disposable income and nostalgia. Those are the people who'd spend £100 on the next mainline Mario game without question and why Nintendo have introduced a variable pricing model. I'm guilty for this. If Nintendo price the next Pokémon game at £80 then I'm probably going to such it up, but I have the disposable income to do so.

Families with an OG Switch, like my sister for example, can't afford to upgrade to a Switch 2. The cost of games are too much for her. I'm sure there are many other families that are the same.

And before I get some hate, I'm not taking a dump on Nintendo. They're just following the market. Other companies have done the same. Look at Lego. Used to be a children's toy, but now most of their sets are expensive sets catered to kidults. It's making them bank, so you can't blame them.
i kind of agree with you. But the quality of lego sets is high. whereas Nintendo product is expensive and the quality is not that great. People drink the fun soy sauce and they happily pay premium prices for average quality as you have confessed.

I do agree the Switch 2 launch year so far has been weaker than the Switch 1's launch, but the Switch 1's launch was legendary. Fire Emblem, 3D Mario, new Monolithsoft, all for sure 80+ heavy hitters are coming down the pipe.

Gaf tried that, several times. Thread never took off like it does to just troll in other threads.

A mere 6 pages in 6 years.

I see the thread is still open..........I might test the waters.

The Lego sets are overpriced for what they are. Those Lego Pokemon sets are not only overpriced, but you know they're just going to be bought by collectors and scalpers.

Nintendo, like every developer, can be hit and miss. And yes, I admit I am guilty. Guilty of handing money over to Game Freak/Nintendo when I know the end product is probably going to be gash, but every time I hang onto hope that they return to form. Mario Kart World was also not that great, not compared to 8D anyway.

lol, yes.

Fire Emblem will 100% be mid-high 80s.

They will likely have a Christmas game that at least has a chance at being 90+. Bananza released last year and scored higher than anything Sony made that year so it's an odd thing to bring up.
Out of all fucking boring and dead IP's

Fire emblem holy shit dude

I know dude still puzzled the series fucking sucked since NES.

advance wars was always better

to each their own. Awakening and 3H are both fantastic SRPGs, hopefully the upcoming one is solid.

Advance Wars is dope though, would be cool in Nintendo brought it back. Was a great intro to SRPGs.

My only input on this subject is that I really hope Aonuma changes the next Zelda formula and leaves Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom behind, especially after realizing how much recycled content Tears of the Kingdom has, including the map itself.

they actually just did like 1 year ago.
If you want peak srpg. Try disgaea 1

Wait for the next zelda or mario if you wanna see overrated scores.
Gtfo with this shit! Those franchises regularly poo from an enormous height on top of most other games.

Sure there are Bros. 2, Sunshine, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks level of trash…but explain shit stain COD or bugfest Bethesda trash

Recent Sony games and their scores is like Rotten Tomatoes and Marvel movies.

Make more of the same content, polish it, zero risks and the critics will lap it up.

Switch 2 feels like an optional purchase to me so far. Really like it, but could live without it.

I'm pretty sure that by December this year it will no longer feel optional, and the price might even be higher.

Nintendo has been releasing mediocre-quality games for a long time. It's surprising that the ratings have only started dropping now, did they stop paying the right people or what?

Only a huge nostalgia-driven fan base in two countries (Japan and the US) is keeping this company afloat.

The Switch 2 did launch with Nintendo's biggest selling franchise however. Mario Kart is probably one of the most accessible Nintendo could have opted for.

Totally agree, we need some more big Nintendo announcements. I am already 150 hours into Mario Kart world and did not like Metroid all that much.... so as Reggie was very fond of saying... Our bodies are ready. ;)

The pokemon sets aren't really "overpriced" because the price per piece tracks. They're just badly conceived sets. The big one is using the hype as leverage to make someone buy $650 worth of blocks, but I see it as kind of an unfair way to launch this. They know what they're doing. Much like video games, they will go for the whales first, then change the product to capture the people that didn't work on.

They could be making Pokemon like all the Mario characters, small builds worth five bucks each, maybe with the random grab bag scheme applied, and that would really fit the IP, you know the COLLECT EM ALL aspect. Really, they should have done this with the bar code system from Mario as well, you could even battle monsters and gain EXP points. Maybe we'll get there once the shakedown is over.

Edit: The electric Mario scanner piece would be a Pokedex this time. It could catalog all the Pokemon you've tagged, and you'd use it to scan monsters to send them out in a fight. Makes too much sense, using too much tech they already have.

People giving a shit about scoring are the dumbest people on earth. I dont even care about Nintendo, but if their games are fun, who the fuck cares what a bunch of dumbfucks rated them?

Fire Emblem
Splatoon
Yoshi

Already 3 candidates.

And i don't know where the disappointment comes from, Nintendos 2025 output is vastly superior to that of Sony and Microslop combined.

Come on now, BOTW is far from being overrated. The physics in the game are still amazing.
Just the physics, literally everything else would be considered bad or half cooked if it wasn't called zelda:

Story and charas
Combat
Loot
Challenge
Enemy variety
Bosses
Main dungeons
Even the fucking lock on is arcaic for modern standards

But hey, have fun collecting 900 korok seeds, climbing ubisoft towers and finding the useless master sword.

Zelda tiktok is the superior game but still an 8\10 at the very, very very best because it still share many flaws from botw but improve some stuff.

Back in the Switch era, Nintendo games somehow always scored the highest. Reviewers often went easy on them, overlooking flaws that would have crushed other games' scores. But that changed with the Switch 2 launch. Games that would have earned multiple 90s before are now barely cracking the 80s on Metacritic.

In other words, while Sony exclusives were held to Olympic-level standards, Nintendo games were treated more like Paralympic-level standards. Now the tables have turned, and Nintendo games are judged by the same Olympic-level standards as Sony games.

This is, of course, an intentionally exaggerated comparison, but it makes the point. Most would probably agree that neither Sony nor Microsoft would have scored a massive 97% for a Ubisoft game like Breath of the Wild.

You're absolutely right. Sony's light has been shadowed by a conspiracy by the global gaming media to prop up Nintendo.

Tag me when PlayStation releases five back to back sub-80 rated games

eh idk, a sub-70 game from Playstation, God of War even, worries me more than that

No way man, everyone knows Sony never delivers anything less than an 80 Metacritic. Just look at all these amazing games they've released the last year and a half.

yeah, I think that deserves a thread asking if they will have a 70 scoring game this year LakeOf9 LakeOf9

I dont understand why you guys are so obsess with scores......for me there were games that was so much fun but only scored 6/10.

I mean 6/10 games can be fun

But are they good?
Honestly yeah, they are flawed but fun, one of my biggest example was Nier Gestalt. By no mean its perfect game and it had flaws but unbelievably memorable.

Other hand games like Horizon Zero Dawn and RDR2 got glowing reviews but it was miserable experience in my opinion.

Score alone wont tell you nothing about the games.

I get what you mean. Most people won't abandon games or franchises they enjoy just because of what strangers on the internet say. But once arbitrary numbers get involved, people tend to go a little wild. It's strange.

People dont even read actual review they just look at score....Hey maybe the reviewer's negative point might not be negative for you and vice versa, it kinda stupid to judge entire game based on just numbers.

Totally get that. Some games just stick with you, flaws and all. Meanwhile, others that everyone raves about can feel so empty

I recently just finished Cairn, which has an 85 on Metacritic but honestly, I think that's way too low. That game just grabbed me in a way that numbers can't capture. Funny how that works
