Sony shuts down Bluepoint Studios

I regret buying that PS5 pro piece of shit now, was thinking we would surly start to get some decent games announced. Now they close 1 of there better studios, these cunts are just as bad as Microsoft.

Hulst isn't to blame.

This is where the market is and where it's headed. Chinese studios are 3x cheaper.

In what world did BluePoint deserve 5 more years based on their track record?
Yes, he isn't to blame he just need to get fucked alongside those ninjas who defend him and his bullshit this whole gen. lol

Bonkers... I see Hults mentioning rising game costs etc. But then it makes even less sense, Bluepoint should have been assigned to pump out remasters as they are low risk and bring in revenue. Why shut down their remake/remaster studio?

But i guess what can you expect from a CEO that has his PS5 upside down while playing Bugsnax

Terrible news because their talent was wasted on a botched game that killed them.
Bend and Media Molecule must be sweating.
And we don't even know what's happening at Haven Studio with no news since Jade Raymond left.
Unfortunately things are getting brutal in this industry, either you deliver something and you're successful or you're done.

No successful IP, and Nixxes took their spot on ports. Evidently they didn't land a pitch in 5 years.

Well, sure, they don't have IP. But they have done consistently excellent work going way beyond the scope of what Nixxes shits out. Sony saddled them with a God of War GaaS game that got cancelled, and I'd have to imagine that if they didn't get a pitch through after that fell apart, that's probably due more to Sony's inability to commit to a good game than anything. There is no way Bluepoint couldn't propose something compelling. Their track record is too good to believe that.

Imagine looking at a studio renowned for low budget, well received remasters and going "nah. Fuck em."

Especially when people are CLAMORING for the return of classic PS2 and PS3 titles that said studio who specialized in low budget, well received remasters could have worked on.

What do you mean there's no bloodborne remake in the works?

Sony first party is irrelvant

Without competition from Xbox - what is the point of niche studios?

Only big hitters will matter

I predict in the following years

  • Guerilla will start licensing Decima to third parties cheaper than Unreal (after Horizon fortnite flops)
  • Bend will shut down (without releasing a game)
  • Media Molecule will FOR SURE shut down (without releasing a game)
  • Haven Studios will shut down (Fair Game$ will not release)
  • Firwalk Studios will shut down (without releasing a game)
  • Firesprite will become a support studio
  • Naughty Dog will downsize to one team
  • Bungie will be downsized even more (but a core team will work on Destiny 3 while D2 dies and Marathon trucks on)
  • Nixxes will flourish with contract work

umm PC and Nintendo is more than enough competition.

Also it's not "for no reason" at all.

It's for the very obvious reason (detailed in this thread) that Sony were retarded enough to put a studio known primarily for remasters/remakes on a live service God of War game of all things.

Which of course they couldn't deliver, thus shitcanning the entire project and dooming the whole studio.

But ohhh the profit line keeps going up! Millions of PlayStation gamers can't be wrong! Sony must be doing something right!

Suck my cock. All of you. This is the diarrhea future the fans deserve for supporting and defending this mediocrity.

This is really terrible to hear. I know a lot of people are probably like oh it's just a port studio but I'm of the opinion that having a port studio in your catalog (much like Nixxes being a pc port studio for them) is super useful. I like remakes/remasters personally and Bluepoint doing it means that other internal studios don't need to "waste time" doing them.

They should have shut down Media Molecule instead because that studio is pretty useless IMO.

What!? One of their best studios and I'm sure Demons Souls sold a lot.
A quick google search shows it sold 1.857M as of 2022 so not bad.
The problem is probably that the studio hasn't released anything since Demon's Souls Remake (outside of working in some sort on GoW Ragrarok), and spent years making a cancelled live service game that assuredly lost Sony a lot of money. The news of the cancelled live service game is still pretty recent, so this has to be a big reason in the decision.

I'm in no way saying it's Bluepoint's fault. I'm just saying this is most likely the cause whether the live service game was something handed to them or something they wanted to work on (though if it was their request to work on it, they would be partially responsible IMO).

These guys made 1 remake then did absolutely nothing for 6 years.

Its not surprising Sony saw them as expendable.

Still a retarded decision. But i'm not going to cry for these fucking incompetent devs anymore. Make fucking games.

6 years and you've done nothing? Bye.

All Sony had to do was give them the most obvious thing in the world, bloodborne remake.

But nope. too fucking stupid to do the obvious.

Herman needs to go. And these devs need to stop being so fucking incompetent.
They did nothing because Sony forced them to do some idiotic gaas game with 0 potential for success

Wat.

Here it is from our boy Hulst:

Hello everyone,
I wanted to share an important update from the Studio Business.
As I mentioned in the December Town Hall, 2025 had some strong highlights within PlayStation Studios. Ghost of Yōtei launched to critical and commercial success, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach further showcased our commitment to narrative excellence, and Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show continue to drive on-going player engagement and revenue.
At the same time, we're operating in an increasingly challenging industry environment. Rising development costs, slowed industry growth, changing player behavior, and broader economic headwinds are making it harder to build games sustainably.
To navigate this reality, we need to continue adapting and evolving. We've taken a close look at our business to ensure we're delivering today while still well-positioned for the future. As a result, we will be closing Bluepoint Games in March.
This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. Where possible, we will work to find opportunities for some impacted employees within our global network of studios.
While I know this is hard news to hear, I'm confident in the direction we're headed. Creativity, innovation, and building unforgettable experiences for players remain at the heart of PlayStation Studios. We have a robust roadmap for FY26, with much to look forward to in the months ahead.
Thank you for your hard work and continued support.
Best,
Hermen Hulst

This is f-ing insane… what the f are they smoking over there?

bloodborne remake, god of war remake, uncharted remake, demon souls 2.

but no, go help SSM make a last gen god of war then waste five years on a god of war gaas.

Peak retards. I have been ringing alarm bells going back to 2020, i knew sony was on the wrong path, but people were like oh look at the sales, look at the profits. Well, what good are profits when they are laying off thousands and shutting down studios.

Sony killing itself from inside just like Xbox did is disheartening to see. a bunch of fucking retard cucks who care about nothing but profits.

I assumed Sony bought them because they excelled at remasters/remakes.

Sony instead forces them to make GOW GAAS, eventually canceled it and then shuts down the studio.

Sony leadership is trash this generation.

They're probably convinced MS doesn't pose a threat anymore, PC hardware is too expensive for most people and Nintendo doesn't compete with them. Logical conclusion for shareholders: sell all units developing exclusives/games, Sony doesn't need them anymore. They'll just be a console producer and platform holder and that's it. Free money.

What an insanely fucking stupid move, at this rate going forward I'll be clinging to my PC and only buying Nintendo consoles in the future. At this point they're the only ones who seem to get it anymore, greed aside. Enough of the GaaS shit.

And why is this bad news exactly? What of value have they produced? Some decent remakes, and a rather bad one (demon souls). After they completely butchered the art style of DS, I knew there was no way this studio was producing anything decent. Better to spend sony's budget elsewhere, as long as its not yet another live service garbage.

What a fucking waste of time, money, and talent (though with sometimes bad decisions on art direction). This generation will be remembered for fuck all but corporate greed and contempt for customers.
