Happy 40th Anniversary To The Legend Of Zelda

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
The original Legend of Zelda was released on February 21, 1986. Without a doubt, one of the best video game series ever made.

One of my fav franchises. Loved nearly all of them. I hope the next one goes back to be a more traditional Zelda and not like BoTW and it's sequel. Botw (and assuming its sequel forgot the name and didn't play it) are good games but not good Zelda games imo.

Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time are still the two best especially Majora's Mask. Hoping for a remake of both or at least a new big Zelda game similar to the art style of those two. The WII U Tech Demo is the closest thing so far but needs a full game.

Zelda 1 is still one of my favorites of all time. There's really no other game like it.
Link's Awakening, Ocarina and Majora are still incredible examples of storytelling through gaming. Even Nintendo themselves never managed to top those three games in this regard.
BOTW and TOTK are pretty much the only authentic open-world games I ever really enjoyed discovering every nook and cranny of.
And I'll always love Zelda 2 for an afternoon of old-school gaming. That game is great, period.

The sheer hype when impressions and previews of that E3 when BotW was playable was so.. palpable.

It's the only game Nintendo brought to E3 that year. They knew what they had was special.

Are the DS games worth playing despite being touch controlled? I never felt interested in the use of the touch screen in a Zelda game so I never got around to playing them, but apparently they are well reviewed.

Excellent franchise! Not a huge fan of the recent open world titles, but my love for the series remains strong.

Any series that introduces characters like Midna and Linebeck is good in my eyes..

Yes, they are. I've always found the complaints regarding the controls largely overblown. I could beat Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks when I was young no problem, so I suspect the complaints are just from people who were bad at them.

Zelda 1 blew me away when I was a kid. I still play it yearly. LttP got me to stay up all night, LA made me cry, OoT and MM had me doodling a thousand doodles during school. TWW was my favorite game for a few years, and BotW brought back what I loved from Zelda 1.

While not every game is a winner, this series overall is simply the best, with a half-dozen titles you could easily make a case for being the finest game ever made. Nothing else compares.

I avoided the Zelda series until BOTW thinking it was a full fat RPG, my most hated genre.

Botw is easily in my all time top 10 but I've yet to play any of the other Zelda games.

To bad BotW turned out to be one hell of a mind numbingly boring, snooze-fest of a game that doesn't respect your time. TotK is just as boring as fuck and doesn't respect your time, but at least you can build and play with Erector Sets, that's not for me though.

Happy Birthday The Legend of Zelda.

Yeah, they're both good especially Spirit Tracks which has the best dungeons of the 2D games.

GTV Japan made a 50 minute special talking about the game.
It's pretty meaty and discusses development, the disk system it was designed for, media reactions and how it was eventually released in America.
One surprise tidbit was the mention of how Keiji Terui, an anime screenwriter best known for a lot of Dragonball episodes wrote the backstory.

Love those games, specially the early ones.

I believe Ocarina of Time defines what every game should strive to do: be fun and varied while providing a very nice sense of adventure and progression with many memorable moments. Lots gameplay mechanics, minigames, collectibles, lots of different environments, tons of different music tracks, telling a nice story that doesn't get in the way and with 0 padding.

I'm probably biased since I grew up with it but imo it's the closest we have to a perfect game, which is both amazing and sad because nothing has been able to top it after so many years.

A Link to the Past is my 2nd favorite and depending of the day it's sometimes the 1st. Another super cool game with even more content that OOT and more challenging. Something I love in that game is the contrast between the fist part of the game and the 2nd one, the change in tone sure helps with the sense of progression.

It also features one of my favorite moments in videogames which is reaching the top of the pyramid when you enter the golden land for the first time:

Again, extremely biased, but I don't care lol. :lollipop_content:

I was never personally huge on the series outside of LA on GB, but there's no denying the sheer influence the series has had on the entire gaming landscape.

Zelda, SMB, and DOOM. The foundations of this entire medium .

Don't sleep on Echoes of Wisdom. I had far more fun with it than with Link's Awakening.

I think I'll replay Wind Waker on my GC and CRT this spring as a celebration. It's my favourite in the franchise, captures the sense of adventure like no other game I've played.
