New Xbox CEO on AI: "We will not chase short-term efficiency or flood our ecosystem with soulless AI slop."

Givne the fact she was AI boss before that... she is actively part of all AI Slop, so this sounds, at least, hypocrite
She trying to real back in the Xbox loyalists and fix the PR issue they caused by using gamer buzzwords. They 100000000% will be using AI in games. She's talking like a gamer with zero background in any gaming roles. She come from corporate retail not gaming

She was AI executive, just a few days ago! How dare she calls AI slop!
Because it's the whole Microsoft PR initiative at the moment. A lot of executive made the same kind of statement.
They want to capitalize on the the current Ai pushback.
But there's probably a deeper reason.
They are way behind the Ai race atm, they don't own any proprietary model and Ai is a huge threat to their business core software Office and in not so distant future, Windows.

No, it isn't, because Windows strength is unparalleled compatibility of no matter which software written for it. All the companies in the world having all the legacy systems will not switch because the tech debt is just too high. AI will not magically change that.

"As monetization and AI evolve and influence this future, we will not chase short-term efficiency or flood our ecosystem with soulless AI slop. Games are and always will be art, crafted by humans, and created with the most innovative technology provided by us."...

spoken like a true ai...

The weird thing is 11 broke a lot of legacy shit. You'd have an easier time with WINE for older applications.

Xbox is so done. Winding it down for sure I think.

Or should I say, re evaluating the Xbox business.

It will either tick along or it's done.

She's full of shit. In the next few years gaming (along with how we consume and interact with entertainment systems) will likely evolve rapidly. Just need to look at Genie to see how. https://deepmind.google/models/genie/ there will definitely be less 'developers' and more Ai "slop", as consumers will be able to create those experiences themselves. It's just how….Streaming from an Azure data center, AWS? GOOGLE DATA CENTER….? You'll need compute power to run / stream it in 4k / 60 fps….

Yeah Sarah Bond being gone just adds to the speculation this wasn't retirement. They 100% wanted anything to do with the old guard out.

Phil is still on the payroll as an advisor/consultant, if he was "cut loose" they would have just sunsetted him easy work.
No need to hold him at all.

Sarah seems completely gone gone.

Destin interviewed Phil last year around the time he says he announced his retirement to Satya and Destin alluded to thinking Phil approaching retirement age might dip and Phils answer gave Destin pause.....and it looks like Destins feelings were right cuz at the time of the interview Phil and Satya actually already knew he was gonna retire they just couldnt announce it until the day actually arrived Destin just had a good read on that interview.

Sarah on the other hand..........who knows has she released a statement yet?

Please they built a cult of personality around the guy and the they do not even publicly prepare the transition once they are ready and they announce it on a Friday with essentially immediate effect? Nah, they made a choice and are saving face because otherwise it would spook investors more / would be embarrassing to explain.

That statement sounds like something LLM would generate.

Real humans at Microslop know their boss won't be happy about them saying "slop".
She used it purposefully, because she knows her boss hates that and she cleared it explicitly by him. This is a "oh good, you will look like standing up to power and rally the truths". This is Nadella's flexing he strong enough to have this brush off of him to give the new CEO without any relevant experience "street cred" with the Xbox team and fans.

What more would you want them to do?
Hes been mentoring Ashe for months, hes staying on as an advisor till atleast August.
Investors dont give a shit about the gaming division when its such small part of the Microsoft ecosystem.

I believe this "we have been actively preparing this for months and months and I am staying as an adviser (which is what Bond said I think, not Spencer btw) to help the transition" is BS / blowing smoke up their Xbox employees and fans' butt.

When this division spends too close to $100 Billion without results they do or do you want to pretend the last year of going third party did not happen.

The internal email that leaked was from Phil.

If you dont believe it then thats that.
I cant prove it or disprove it.
Like most discussions I have with conspiracy theorists, if you believe that do you, im not gonna try convince you otherwise, im just gonna present what I have and thats that.
If Phil is still seen on campus in the coming months, we can assume he was telling the truth about staying on as an advisor to support the handoff.

Didn't the MS boss recently say that people need to stop calling it "Ai slop" And embrace AI? (In panic because people don't want their shitty AI stuff)

You do not know that corporate parachutes have no conditions? A Friday quick announcement like this, a new exec coming from areas with zero gaming experience ever, is not what a succession plan executed by an internally beloved exec would look like. Conspiracy theorists? Look in the mirror as you are creating a make believe reality.

This is him and Bond pushed out, this is cleaning house.

Didn't the MS boss recently say that people need to stop calling it "Ai slop" And embrace AI? (In panic because people don't want their shitty AI stuff)
Yes he did, which is why they decided it should be in her speech. It is the "pretend to stand up to power" trick and they tried to make it as safe as possible, but being a corporate soulless message they got to something so blatant trying to make it strong and believable that achieves the opposite IMHO.

Once a AI glazer, always a AI glazer...Bethesda in a year or two "We are excited to share that we are utilising Microsofts AI to help get the latest Elder Scrolls to you quicker. With it we will be able to create a truly massive endless unique world for players to glitch about in and barely be able to play. Trust us it will just work. Please be excited"

She's really going to be a great replacement for Phil Spencer; she's even learning to lie like him already!
I dont think he lied. I just think he was out ranked when it came to decisions.

Hey lets do this.
Someone higher up the chain, no, this is what we're going to do.

It's similar to what happened to that infamous tweet by Insominac, "never going to PC or Xbox".

But regardless, he did not intervene when he needed to (see, Redfall).

"AI will not magically change that." That will age like milk.

Please don't imply that this was a quick decision?

This is a planned move. Probably been on the cards for months.

You don't just kick someone who is in the roll of someone like Phil Spencer.

Phil tuned out for more than a year ago. He failed his mission and his time is over.

It's worth noting that Satya Nadella does not consider AI or their applications to be "slop." By that admission, all of Microsoft's intended AI applications are valuable enhancements to a user's experience with the platform.

Bet. Your. Ass. They will be leveraging tons of invasive AI into the Xbox Beyond.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a default-on screen analysis going on in the back ground to train their models. And they'll defend it by saying it's not recording. It's just observing the screen. And they'll position it as a fun AI buddy that helps you play.

Hey, you missed a pickup back there!

Remember the village elder said we needed ten wolf pelts to make the potion!

I. T. S. S. O. F. U. N. P. L. A. Y. I. N. G. W. I. T. H. Y. O. U.

Putting AI aside for a moment, Xbox has been all short term decisions over the last two years or so - since the 'business podcast' - leaving the long term future of Xbox so unclear.

That's a huge change if this is actually true. Very hard to believe.

Judge by what people do not what they say.
Just wait a quarter of the year and we all will know where she truly stands.
She was an AI exec, we know exactly what she did before. If people with gaming background are fucking up astronomically, imagine an outsider...

I think it's good news for Xbox. Phil Spencer has already made a lot of mistakes and faced failures. Maybe Asha Sharma can deliver successful work like during the Xbox 360 era. And that's why I would say it's good news for Xbox.

This is based on… her resume? On Booty remaining? On the power of the cloud / AI?
