Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition |OT| Shoot them with your guns (Again!)

I bought this on Wii-U and never played it and bought it again on Switch and never played it. I just upgraded to the Switch 2 version so I can never play it on that system as well.

I watched some clips and seen screenshots now... and like... there's no way this is 4k,
as in not even close... who are they trying to fool here with that 4k claim?

what do you mean? The game isn't rendering at 4k or the assets "don't look 4k enough"?

There is a difference there. I am pretty sure they didn't recreate any materials/textures/geometry so while it renders in 4k the visual fidelity of the rendered image may not meet players perceived standards.

I'm sure the scooby gang over at Digital Foundry will unmask this villain!

They can munch rug...regardless of what they say. Game is fantastic even in 480p!

it looks like 1080p with some spatial upscaler (maybe FSR1) added.

I'm not on my PC to pixelcount things, but it looks 1080p like at first glance

Whatever it is, it looks significantly better than it did before.

I've tempered my expectations of what the Switch 2 can do...like a year ago, man.

As long as I can play games smoothly, I really don't care anymore. This is coming from someone with a high end PC that loves when games visually rock my eyeballs.

Watching some videos, it seems like performance is a win (mostly 60FPS with minor dips in heavier scenes) but whatever upscale method they are using is causing shimmering/instability.

There's definitely a lot of jaggies, too, which I'm not used to seeing these days.

It still feels like a completely different game, though. It was pretty terrible (yet playable) before.

Probably FSR 1. Fornit to work with DLSS, theybwould have to make changes to the engine, wich makes no point, since this is an older version of the engine, and they are working on a new one atm.

I'm considering maybe getting this tomorrow for switch 2.

If I don't gel with Xeno 1 due to bad combat, slog, poorly paced middle, but liked the characters and ending pay out. But also I'm 15ish hours into Xeno 2 and think combat is better plus visuals but the pacing plus characters/story aren't going anywhere…. Would any of this be remedied in X?

the trailer says "up to4k"

not sure how this is different than every other game (shock!).., at least the gpu isn't idle

can anyone explain to me what is going on here?

so if a crosshair border is ranged and an orange boundary is melee, then what the hell is this ability?

I think from memory, which is hazy the colour is the type of attack that happens when you're not using the art. But I played this years ago when it looked worse than Jumping Flash so might be wrong/remembering somethung else

It's the pic inside that shows whether it's melee (a knife) or ranged (a gun), I do believe. The color is something else that alas I missed in the tutorial.

Played for a few hours last night, and it looks and plays amazingly! I played only in handheld mode, though.

it's seemingly 1080p, which is also the resolution the game ran at on Switch 2 through back compat, since it was dynamic 1080p on Switch 1.

honestly, the game is so fun who cares about a little aliasing?... 60fps and load times are massive improvements for playability

gamers suck off a 2.5d squaresoft game because it's good, but an old wii:u port gets extra shit because it's fully 3D?

at some point a good game is just a good game, maybe we need a DF wii:u vs switch2 thread so the graphics whores have a place to shit lol

at the very least, take it to the thread about the update

This is probably a dumb question, but sometimes I get a team combo indicator on my art icon, but sometimes I don't and there is only a text bubble?

I see the combo chain when I execute either way... what is the distinction or what am I missing?

i think you are close (right idea but reverse)... the orange means the art is melee (for the purpose of combos), but it switches my weapon to range for auto attack (which changes my tp gen and a skill i have that only works with melee weapon out)

I recommend asking stuff here because that thread specifically answers gameplay questions!

wait.., im confused did i post spoilers?... i can be more careful, but i thought they were basic gameplay questions
no no i meant you can ask your gameplay questions in that reddit thread because there's a higher chance that people might answer you there since that thread is super active currently!

fuck me this game is amazing

The combat is even better than what I remember from xc1. Which was already some of my favorite combat ever.

The world is fucking epic and an absolute pleasure to explore. I had no idea this was such a massive open world game.

I can already tell that this is gonna be a fucking huge game. The whole division system seems meaty too

So far I'm liking this better than xc1

Oh also the voice acting is really good

The border indicates whether the art will use your melee or ranged weapon. The colour indicates which stat will be used to calculate damage. That's Assault Hammer, you melee attack with the butt of your ranged weapon to inflict topple.

Here is my Chapter 4 video for a good examination of how good I think the Switch 2 handles this port. On the main battle on Wii-U there were sections that would go sub 20 fps. Rock sold 60fps as far as I can tell in 4k.

If you haven't made it past Chapter 4, I would hold off for spoilers.

I was wondering the same thing. What tells you it's a melee attack? The color?

The how to tell when a ranged weapon will be used as a melee weapon confuses me

It's the colour. Assault Hammer's more of a utility Art, it's not meant to cause significant damage. Either way, the colour plus the border shape tells you what they'll do. I'd initially elaborated on this but my edit time expired.

I forget if they explained this in the DE, but there's an exception to the 'colour means damage type' for TP Arts, which use the Potential stat instead.

The color tells you the art type. This will help you decide how to combine it for combos, and team chains.

The icon around the circle, like the crosshair design, tells you that you will switch to shooting when you use this art. This is just for your auto-attack.

So the art that is orange, but has the crosshair around it is used in a melee combo chain, but you will start shooting instead of swinging your sword after you use it.

This has different implications, depending on your skills and TP generation, and obviously your attack range.

God this game plays like a fighting game... sometimes I can't tell if it's just better to combo off myself than the team's abilities, but sometimes the team's chains do great damage.

I can build my own character pretty well, but I don't really know how to build my team and their arts... I just try to put different colors of abilities in their pallet. Some that cost TP and some don't and hope for the best..

this shit is really fun

ch. 5 is great lol

holy shit this game is getting sweaty... anyone know how to find the point attack simulator?... overdrive is fucking wild

Yeah as you unlock abilities and weapon classes the game gets crazy with the damage that you can do. About to play through chapt 5 just finishing up some affinity missions.

The reports on this thread sharply contrast with the DF reports and comments from other corners of the internet. DF direct calls it the worst Switch 2 edition yet and most people say IQ at some spots is worse (unstable IQ with pulsation) than the OG backcompat version on switch and the only win is 60 fps. This game was hardly intolerable at 30 fps so I will wait till they patch this edition to acceptable standards.

I was excited for this updated but I'm going to hold off for now. I've waited some time now, I can wait some more. And if they never fix it so bet it, I'll play it anyway down the line at some point., maybe on an emulator.

I was going to buy the cart, but I'll wait until they change the shitty scaler.
