• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game are you currently playing?

I just beat Romeo is a Deadman and like most Suda games its flawed but still very fun and memorable despite of its flaws.

The combat is fun when fighting a boss but it's frustratingly unfun when fighting normal enemies.

I think Suda should do what Yoko Taro did with Automata, bring devs like Platinum Games or another devs who are experienced at making fun action combat.

Still going through Titan Quest. Beat the main game and now I'm playing the short Atlantis DLC before going all in on Immortal Throne.

Very cool and fun so far, and quite pretty as well.

Lost my write up, oh well.
Just rolled credits on Hades 2
Beat Ball x Pit before that
Next is Dave the Diver and the Portal collection. Already beat the portals ages ago but wanted to play through again switch 2 and it was on sale cheap

Expedition 33. About 20% in. Not really feeling it, to be honest. It's kinda boring, and I am not sure what's all the hype about. And I am sick of people calling it a jrpg

Mass Effect Legendary Edition. My playthroughs have only ever been Male Shepard Paragon or Fem Shep Renegade. So this time I'm doing a goody-goody Fem Shep white panties playthrough.

Second playthrough of God of War Ragnarok on New Game+. The Dark Oddysey skins for weapons, armor and Kratos is awesome.

Looks even better than i remember playing it now on PS5 Pro.

Spent a little of my Saturday afternoon cleaning up some of the side stuff; Sending kodama home, bathing in hot springs, and clearing out some of the enemy bases. I also switched my build up a little by changing from fire to thunder based stuff.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Just did the young Lara sequence and now I've stumbled upon a small little village in the jungle.

Done! 😍😍😍

Cons:
- lack of inventory slots
- it's often hard to pick up an item even when it is right under your feet
- no checkpoints

Pros:
- classic Resident Evil atmosphere, gameplay, puzzles, enemies, etc.
- the graphics look phenomenal even today
- good co-op mechanics

Overall I recommend Resident Evil Zero. It turned out to be better than I expected.

Making it a bit further in God of War 2018. I finished up the first realm that you visit, and I've just been exploring all the areas around the main lake that I guess I could have done earlier but I was looking to move the narrative forward a bit first.

I definitely did not get hooked on this game to start there was no definitive hook for me. I didn't really care for the combat or the way the narrative was proceeding but the more I play it the more I do appreciate the interactions between Kratos and the boy. I like that Kratos remains very terse in terms of his responses and there is some value in that I think. While I do enjoy the conversations that happen on the boat sometimes they end and begin a little too quickly, back to back when there should probably be some space in between. At the same time there isn't some gigantic space in which to be paddling around for that space to exist, so it makes some sense. It is interesting that the notes are from the boys perspective and I do read all of the entries when the law option pops up.

While I still don't think it's an amazing game by any means, I'm getting a little more into it as I go along but I don't fault myself for dropping this a couple of hours into it years ago because there's just not much to keep you going at first. And it doesn't need to be said but this is nothing like the original games for better or for worse. As always with IP reinventions, even if I like what's new my biggest concern is always that it potentially means evisceration of what was old going forward (ie Zelda).

Did a new playthrough of Zero last year. I didn't like it all when I played it on GameCube back in the day but it was pretty good this time around. It was definitely a much better experience now. A remake could probably iron out the most glaring issues and become a really good entry in the franchise.

Finished Valiant Hearts: The Great War.

This game is such a beautiful gem. I consider this to be a game that you can classify as art. Set during World War 1, you follow four characters that crosses each others paths during the war. The story is very gripping and well written. The characters are sympathetic and likeable, despite not having any actual dialogue. The graphics are beautiful, hand drawn animations that holds up so well. The gameplay is a bit limited but is functional, with some light puzzle elements to keep you engaged throughout the adventure.

Valiant Hearts is also filled with interesting trivia and information about the war, what set it off, it's consequences for the people, notable events and so on. Very educational and interesting to read.

I absolutely adored this game. It's so good, so fun to play and so sad and tragic that I almost shed a tear at the ending. Not many games have moved me as much as this one did. Ubi cooked hard with this one.

Started MGS2, I like it but this game has a ton of cutscenes. I barely get to play it.

I really am enjoying the visual style of it.

I'm at the first major town in Avowed. I am thinking about rolling another character but totally leaning into the Godlike aspect of the MC's appearance, and just making a completely Godlike'd out monstrosity and then picking all the sarcastic dialogue choices. It seems I "failed" a side quest by choosing a different dialogue option with a character, so there could be some effect on the world with such choices. Not sure if I'd want to play melee or magic though...

I am bouncing off of Mario Tennis Fever and that is upsetting because I am a big tennis fan.

I need to get back to DQ VII Re.

Just finished Deadzone: Rogue

I am getting tired of roguelikes but this one was good.

FPS, inspired by Doom (horror sci fi on a station/ship) but not demons, start each room stealthed to plan your attack, solid shooting mechanics and variety of weapons, tons of combinations of ammo elemental types and perks with synergies. 16 bucks on sale buys you 20+ hours just to clear all the normal content, more if you are doing the additional missions.

So I rolled two new characters in Avowed and I am glad that I did. I am already playing differently and finding more by exploring more.

ZOD is my Fighter with a War Hero background, and will follow most of those dialogue prompts.

Snape is my Wizard with an Arcane Scholar background and will be a total dick to everyone lol

Rise Of Ronin PC. Managed to beat Commodore Perry without using manual control of the other blade twin and managed to "beat" the difficult second boss Blue Demon and changed the cutscene after the battle a bit, Twilight difficulty. Though you are forced to loose the battle with the Blue Demon because of story. And without using any healing items. Yaaay! Recorded the battle:

Metroid Prime on a original GC
After that replays of:

Super Mario Sunshine
Starfox Assault
Star Fox Adventure

Will soon actually touch my PS5 again, because of Resident Evil: Requiem

Spider-Man 2 and my god this game is polished and awesome! Insomniac really knows what they're doing, it's an actionpacked masterpiece, it looks incredible, it feels incredible, great game!

Done with doom dark ages 43 hours hurt me plenty the second easiest mode I'm hel!a slow with games but I had a lot of fun I liked the story (sad that my dragon got killed though) and reading all the codices. very pretty levels and enemies and the combat was fun for me. bought the upgrade for like 12 bucks on sale yesterday so I can get the dlc when that drops.

Somehow I'm still free-roaming inside Horizon FW. After seemingly not liking the game that much, I've spent 20 more hours in the last few weeks in post-campaign. It's very easy on the eyes, runs beautifully and relaxes me.

I've also been dabbling a bit with Where Winds Meet. I'm the most normie gamer there is, so playing a Chinese gacha game is not something I can easily explain to my wife.
But since I've read it's actually a very good open world game, I decided to give it a shot. And while not completely my cup of tea, it's not that bad. Don't get me wrong, the UI and the amount of systems and menus the game throws at you are vomit inducing. Absolutely insane. Visiting each sub-menu in the game should have its own trophy.
But on the gameplay side, the combat is flashy and fluid, animations are smooth and the world is beautiful and invites exploration. The story seems intriguing, and the lore, although mostly incomprehensible for me, seems very rich. Not sure how long I'll stick with it, but I'm glad I've tried it. Oh, and the performance can be very rough on the base PS5.

Still going through Titan Quest. Beat the Immortal Throne DLC (a pretty long Act 4) and thought it was awesome. Definetly feels more polished and high budget than the base game, and more challenging as well. I'm now about to end the Atlantis DLC and I'll be doing the Ragnarok one after that.

I'm having a real good time and I have to say, being able to play a game like this one on the Steam Deck while lying on bed or the sofa might just be the epitome of videogaming. I don't want it to end and I'm already considering playing Grim Dawn next, although I'd prefer for all DLCs of that one to be out before diving into it.

I was seriously irritated with the end of Xenoblade X. This is a short game, a very short game. They're stretching it out big time with a lot of grinding between story missions, and the last chapter is the biggest offender.

But I had a night to sleep on it. The combat is super fun and I need something to play while I wait for resident evil to show up. So I've decided to just casually do missions and enjoy the combat engine for what it is and maybe I make it through the last boss before my new game. I'm not stressing about it.

I was playing some 3-D Mario world, which is fun... but not as fun as my characters in Xenoblade, so I bounced back.

I'm annoyed that the new RE is a GKC, but I'm over it. I shipped it from Amazon. It will take a few days, cause I refuse to pay for shipping.

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga on Ayn Thor. Pixel Guide app in the bottom screen. It's fantastic

Yes. Is that you judging me? lol
Nah not judging lol, you can play like you want man. In any case those games aren't that complex so you'll be fine without one if you ever get tired of following it.

In any case props to you for giving those games a go. Their are among my favorite SMT games.

Not complex, but I'll just lose interest if I have to wander around forever to find where to go next. I do explore quite a bit especially for grinding purposes. But when I'm ready to jump back to the story path, the guide gets me there.

Had to shelve God of War for a bit.. was enjoying the hell out of though and look forward to getting back into it. Surprisingly good.

Resident Evil IX time though. 🔥

Finished the beautiful Kena: Bridge of Sprits. Fantastic symphony music, lush creative asian environment and beautiful animations. Everything comes together for a cohesive diseney-like atmosphere. Liked the combat and level design. Throwing bombs then leaping in the air into slow-motion to shoot your bow and make them explode never gets old.

Ready for the next release Scars of Kosmora. Hoping for some combat improvements:
  • Less input lag
  • Allow blocking/parrying in the air
  • Add air combat

Why did you choose to get the new RE on switch 2?

edit: back on topic

feeling a bit of RE fomo... but nothing a little Diablo3 can't cure

playing a seasonal hardcore solo game... my first char this season, so it took me since yesterday to hit 70

i did 60-70 mostly bounties to extract a wand i found... not used to playing wizard, but it looks like i'll play frozen orb to start with

gonna wait for legacy of dreams gem to drop, and grind it up a bit... then do seasonal rewards to remember the wizard set(s)

I bet RE shows up by then

such a good game in every respect... blizzard at their peak like we will never see again

Finished up my second run of BotW (this time on Switch 2 in 60fps/4k) which i really enjoyed.

Also played some Mario Kart World which plays like a dream, but i dont see the point of the open world, they should have copied the structure of Forza Horizon.

Currently playing Baldurs Gate 2 for the very first time.
I finished Baldurs Gate 1 a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it apart from the cumbersome UI.

Baldurs Gate 2 seems like a more refined, modern product apart from the UI and the ADD2.5 rules.

Just finished my first big side quest (deArnise keep) the boss fight there was a real challenge for my party 😅

Finished my 100% Silksong playthrough. Glad to be done, as much as I enjoyed the game... it was a slog the last few fights.

Moving on to something way more relaxing: Persona 3 Reload.

Just finished the first section with Grace in RE Requiem. Soooo good. I can't believe Capcom always manages to make a new game instead of a stale sequel.

Now playing with Leon and it seems good ol RE4 Leon is back with his one liners. Loving it!

Finished Metal Gear Solid 2, what a good game!

The story was great, the gameplay was sublime.

It's a very interesting way to make a sequel, felt very fresh yet familiar.

I have been slowly working through Octopath Traveler 0. I like the game and the story, but I am not a fan of the two-phase boss battles. I guess I am losing patience as I get older because these battles that last over 30 minutes are no longer fun for me. I am debating about putting it on the back log pile. That, or over leveling so I don't have to deal with those battles taking as long.

Ohhh Baldur's Gate. Glad you liked the first one - the second is pretty much bigger in every respect, you should enjoy for sure. I personally like the first game more, but it's a personal preference thing. I like the smaller scale adventure, lower level. But I still love BG II. Great choices to be playing.
