posted this in another thread today, played avowed this weekend and had a great time exploring the first area. It's open ended, at least in the first area, and exploring/discovery is fun.

Looking forward to playing more. I guess it's on this image because the company announced it under performed?

If marathon underperforms it will be chalked up to the shit storm Sony kicked up last week with the closing of bluepoint…that will be enough to create enough of a social media tantrum to tank initial release figures/purchases imo.

You're kind of late to the party, though. Everything about these games has already been said, at this point we're basically just waiting for the inevitable Highguard shutdown

But to be honest I don't really think Marathon belongs on there. Some people might dislike the visual style, but it doesn't have that "designed for modern audiences" stink like the others.
Also a true Concord spiritual successor needs to be essentially dead after 2 weeks. I don't think Marathon will set the world on fire, but I think it will do decently.
 
I can think of a bunch of other games that couldn't get it together and Concorded all over themselves that would be a better fit here.

Drawn Together, Redfall, Babylon's Fall, Battleborn, Lawbreakers, Anthem

Whenever Thor 'My dad worked at Blizzard' Ferretson's game comes out we can probably add it to this too

Was HighGuard woke, in the sense that people didn't want to play it because it was woke? Is Marathon woke?
This seems to be conflating woke game failures and GaaS failures. Of course Concord was both so maybe that's the joke?
 
if Relooted gets to be on there, Dustborn should be, too lol.

also the Ubisoft games aren't bombs on anywhere near this level, same for Veilguard. They just underperformed against publisher expectations.

Avowed and South of Midnight I'm less familiar with, but tney definitely don't belong on here.

I'll be interested to see how Intergalactic, the next big Naughty Dog game, does.

I can't remember which youtuber was talking bout this but I saw it on youtube last night too.

Apparently someone posted the(at the time new) "Concord timeline" meme with a few games on it on X(iirc) and people were like "imagine hoping games fail" and then people were like, LOOK dude got mad, make more of these, so we got this one.

Apparently people get mad for others rooting for a game to fail and a lesser version of the meme in the OP is the embodiment of that.

It's tough being a zeitgeist knower.

Ironically the people who want to make the best "Concord timeline" lists apparently don't understand exactly which games should be on there.

I played the high seas demo of this game, and I can't recommend it even for that. It's horribly unoptimised, for one thing. Also the fact that the focus seems to be on romancing teenagers is kinda weird. I mean, I know that Persona has that too, of course, but Persona games have a lot more going on, and they're like 10000x the quality of this thing. Idunno.

They both flopped respective to their budgets and they were both featured heavily in the culture wars.
Outlaws was a good game though.

All these games lost tens of millions of dollars, possibly more.

Yeah, but the chart says that this is supposed to be about Concord tier flops, not "every game that ended up being in the culture war and didn't do well".

Also I agree about Outlaws :messenger_fistbump:. I still wanna play South of Midnight at some point, too. Looks kinda neat. Oh, and I like AC Shadows fine.

This is "expanded" concordian timeline, and those less related games are under spin-off header

Also, this is a non-serious shitposting and you need to take it less seriously
 
Still likely to not play it, but marathon was looking substantially better in the latest trailer, I'm not sure it belongs in the fail bucket. There will be sooo many games that will be added in the next year or so tho that were greenlit when consultants told execs that games that have the sort of look or feel that we keep seeing fail would be sure fire $$$ with a huge total addressable market, and the whole AAA western industry ate it up….but games take best part of a decade to make…we're only just at the start of the consequences now as they have begun to release, and kill off all the studios that made them.

Its all woke modern audience games destined to fail coz didnt target male audience, just like all that GAAS trash that failed btw- did u notice only gaas that didnt fail are games that target teenage boys/young adult men? Examples being marvel rivals, arc raiders, helldivers2, gt7, mlb, basically almost no women play those games, and they are thriving :D
