Big changes are likely coming this year and to me getting Call of Duty off Game Pass is top of mind over at Microsoft. Do you see this happening?

Nah, not this year. I bet MS will continue to pretend that everything is fine, and they'll continue to push Game Pass. We'll probably make it another cycle before they start fully sunsetting game pass and/or Xbox.

GTA will eat that franchise alive if they remove that GP user base this year (maybe this happens anyway?). COD attached to Warzone isn't in a great place at this minute to be doing random shifty shit. Maybe next year after GTA.

No, for only 50€ monthly you'll be able to play CoD, WoW, Fallout 76 battlepass, Office other GP games and even talk with Chatgpt with Gamepass Ultimate

Unreal value!

Nope they can't unless they want a class action lawsuit. It's a fist party title and they promised people day and date for all 1st party titles. Removing titles from Gamepass would be the true end of any consumer confidence in them. So yeah that's what will happen I'm sure lol

They put it on the $30 tier only afaik. Why would it skip it? 2 months and you could have just bought it to play indefinitely.

Day One AAA games on GP will no longer be a thing by the end of this year. Absolutely expect this to be one of the big changes coming.

MS won't care in the slightest, as the majority will buy on PS5 anyway, and they'll be better for it.

GP will basically be PS+, but like today, offer less than half the amount of games as what PS+ does.

There is already a cheaper tier of Game Pass ($15) that does not give access to new Call of Duty titles for at least 12 months. I don't know why people forget this tier even exists? And Game Pass Ultimate is $30 a month now. Surely that is enough to tip the scales to the subscriptions favour if people continue to pay?

COD and the MTX revenue it generates is the only reason why people even have GP. No one cares about crap like South of Midnight, Avowed, or Outer Worlds, at least not to the extent that they keep subscribed to GP for it. COD, (as stupid as I think it is), is the reason most normies even bother having the service. They're not going to mass subscribe to GP's more expensive tiers for games like High on Life 2 or Fable. It's the casual crap like COD/Fortnite/sportsball that keeps them truly invested and makes them money.

They should remove it from day one gamepass and try to sell some copies for a change. All AAA games should be removed from day one gamepass as it completely killed any potential sales they could have had. That was one of the biggest blunders in the first place and lead to where Xbox is struggling today with trying to sell their games.

Why would it skip it?
Because they're throwing money away. Potential buyers skip the purchase when FOMO is strong and grab a Game Pass sub (either on Xbox or PC) only to cancel it a month later. This isn't exclusive to COD btw. It's just that COD is their biggest game, so their bottom line takes a much bigger hit vs something like Outer Worlds 2.

Also, lots of people are letting their Game Pass subs lapse because of the price hike. Game Pass in its current state is a failed strategy. I fully expect them to start pulling day one games off the service sometime this year and either lower the price or cancel Ultimate tier.

I could be wrong of course, but that's what my gut tells me.

But $30 to rent COD for a month is excessive already. I'm sure they already failed and adjusted prices/tiers for it didn't they? They raised the prices and excluded day one CoD from lower tiers as far as I know. So paying $30 to rent a game for a month isn't going to hurt them anymore. Especially if they pay $30 on top of that $30 for the true "day one". They're monetising it regardless to not throw money away.

I think your looking at it the wrong way. Why get you to rent COD for $30. When they can get you to pay for gamepass in general for online play and then get you to spend $70 to buy COD. If they go this route though it will most likely be getting rid of gamepass in general. Which I think they should do. Get people spending money on the platform again. They tried gamepass and it never reached the numbers they wanted or needed time to move on.

Not happening, the only sales it cannibalises is on Xbox which aren't that much compared to playstation. Removing it would damage the GP service without improving sales of COD. Nobody's stupid enough to do it (unless you're Microsoft ironically).

MIcrosoft should have bought EA a decade ago, that was the fastest way of destroying that company and all the sports IP it produces.

They may shut it down or even try to get people to pay $30 per month + $70 but I mean they are not going to lose a lot of money for a $30 monthly rental especially if people buy that dumb $30 early access upgrade. They have already minimised losses by restructuring gamepass so that people paying the standard prices don't get the day one games like CoD. I don't think they will try to pull it offthe higher tier too. I think it's almost an obligation at this point considering their advertising during the ABK case. They did make sure that only the most expensive tier gets it though.

They've already created a top tier for CoD exclusivity, and timed exclusivity on other first party games, and priced it accordingly (sky high).

They won't remove it.

Long time between now and the next COD launch. It's entirely possible what we know as Game Pass today is radically changed by then.

No. I think the current plan is to add more stuff to gp ultimate( like fallout sub or something akin to that) so that they can raise the price based on added value. So cod will continue to be part of gp ultimate atleast for this year

Jokes aside it's still good value to me. I stop buying COD years ago, but I still play it for my friends sakes. Same with this yearly madden and fifa updates that they pass off as new games. Just throw them in my sub with a bunch of other games and I'm good.

Raise prices to 70-80 usd and provide content. Battlefield 6 will probably die as it's impossible for dice to output like cod and be consistent.

Sell cod @ 50 usd for gpu subscribers. Toss in 1 free cosmetic token.

These COD games cost like $500 million apiece. And for the past 5 years or so they've been total shit even with that spending.

The math just doesn't work. I don't listen to his podcast anymore but Colin Moriarty pointed out that GP math doesn't work years ago and he was right.Even with $30 ultimate.

Honestly they should probably keep Game Pass this year, because they need a cheaper buy-in to convince their own fanbase this new one will even be worth a damn, after the fuckup that was the last entry.

Doesn't most of COD's revenue come from MTX? I don't see why It wouldn't be on GP.
Exactly, most money comes from MTX plus most sales comes from Playstation. So Gamepass isn't a factor in those revenues.

Yep, not even Premium tier would get it within 365 days, likely closer to 500 days.

Battlefield 7 without Vince Zampella may not be as good, hopefully the Dice team has learned what works.
Congratulations on being the source of this news Kacho Kacho
Lol, I was wondering the same thing.

People who are going to play a new cod past the first week are going to pay for it regardless. They're just losing money but at the same time if they remove it from GP, it'll lose subs which would be a disaster.

Swap out COD for a World of Warcraft base subscription, Gears E-Day. Should be fine. I think.

I don't see what the difference is wether cod is on game pass or not.

The game doesn't suck because it's on game pass.
It sucks because the devs don't know wtf to do with the franchise.
Dropped the Original fanbase by making stupid changes to the point where it's unrecognizable.
Dropped the newer fanbase because Fortnite is better and free.

This comes from a cod fanboy who loved the franchise up to mw19
