It's Official: New PSSR Confirmed For Resident Evil Requiem + FSR 4/DLSS 4.5 Comparisons

Amazing achievement. With PC hardware prices through the roof, and games like Saros, Wolverine and GTA6 skipping PC this year, have to think some people will take a long hard look at the PS5 Pro.

Best value in gaming.

Further, given that PS6 (and next generation of GPUs) are still years away, and with cross-gen being very likely, the investment is future proofed to a significant degree.

Huge difference. If big titles can keep this up for the coming years then it might finally make the Pro worth it after all.

PSSR 1

PSSR 2

So watching the video it is roughly comparable to FSR4. Better in some aspects, worse in others. DLSS is still king, but at regular viewing distances on a TV you'd be hard pressed to tell a difference.

So worse then DLSS 4.5 (as expected but not to the point where I think it even matters outside of YouTube 0.5 speed 4x zoom shots) but trades blows with FSR4 (sometimes better sometimes worse but generally so close it doesn't matter).

Sounds and looks pretty fucking good to me! I played like 30 minutes of the game this morning because my breakfast decided to say fuck you and the game looks stunning.

Unfortunately, Alex used FSR 4.0.3
With FSR 4.1 image quality was improved, especially with vegetation.

But overall, PSSR2 looks like the leaked FSR4 Int8, with a few improvements.

Difference between what?
There is no comparison between PSSR 1 and 2.0 in this video. Just base PS5 with supposedly FSR 1 (which is as bad as it gets) and the Pro with PSSR 2.
So we don't really know the improvements if we don't have a direct comparison in the same game.

I wonder what "PSSR1 is so good" people will say now. It was bad from the start, now Pro is FINALLY delivering good stuff and I love it!

I'll say what I've always said. PSSR1 was good, not great. This is better. Necessary progression with every upscaling tech. Either way, I don't think it is worth picking up old fights (not that you started it). PSSR2 is the north star (most) every one has been pointing towards.

We are happy to share that Resident Evil Requiem – shipping today – is the first title to use this more advanced PSSR, which is helping to keep both frame rate and image quality high.

Sharma Watever could learn a thing or two from Sony and act like this:

Less talk, less parasocial interaction, and more results.

Welp. Time to start saving up. And maybe buy it at the end of april when the wife is away for a weekend. I'm sure she won't notice the extra black stripes. 👀

Where's the doubters now?!

Yup. I've been saying this since day one. This shit is underpowered and overpriced. PSSR is broken in a lot of games and you rarely get fidelity + performance. Add to that the fact that most developers don't give a fuck and you're left wondering why you spent 800€ for that.

None of those stats really matter… only 2 things are important.

1. How will PSSR 2 look and perform?
2. How will GTA6 look and perform?

If the answer to both of those questions is "substantially better than base ps5" then I'll consider myself not completely ripped off.

This is on Cerny and Sony. FSR4 trashes PSSR.

That's why people are begging Devs to disable it or just playing in Quality Mode?
Sure you get 60fps and and features of Quality Mode but it's wrapped up in a fussy mess that's only better than the vaseline filter performance mode on base PS5, there are exceptions but they're far and few between.

correct!
To not use PSSR until Sony fixes it.

And to people saying it lived up to their expectations🤔
You expected it to make games look worse than a base PS5?

You have lotta faith on the newer update, i give you that. Time will tell who is right, but so far, at least until now, +1 year after launch, PS5 Pro hasn´t proved yet it´s worthy.

From the blog post.

"We look forward to more news in March, when multiple existing games upgrade to the improved PSSR. There will also be a system software update at that time; selecting "Enhance PSSR Image Quality" in Settings on PS5 Pro will allow you to experience the new PSSR with any PS5 Pro games that currently support PSSR! Once the system update releases next month, try it and see, some games may have noticeably crisper graphics."

Absolutely awesome news and good to know that I was correct that the PSSR2 upgrade was going to a system setting rather than requiring each game to be patched separately. That means every Pro game with support for PSSR will benefit for the upgrade, including those games which has visual issues when using PSSR, e.g. Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f and Star Wars Outlaws.

But overall, PSSR3 looks like the leaked FSR4 Int8, with a few improvements.
Oh, 4.1 came out? Perhaps similar to the INT8 version of that then? Would explain the vegetation improvements while having some minor issues like less effective AA in motion, which I think the leaked INT8 version of FSR4 had.

So you can enable PSSR for game that already have PSSR....
Kinda shit really, I get it you get the better PSSR but that's it? It don't work on all games.
And what happens if you disable it? does it completely disable it or does it just revert back to the old PSSR?

Nah, it's good overall, Yotei for example was fantastic, I am expecting this one running worse in some games and much better in the problematic ones.

Are you kidding me??

How can you expect PSSR to work if the game code doesn't support it?

LOL

If you enable you get the last PSSR version, if you don't enable you will get play with the exact same version the game was released.

So when today someone will play requiem he will not have pssr2 update but only in March with the system update,is that what they saying?
So it's better not to play the game right now?

No Resident Evil supports it TODAY, it's implemented in the game code by default

You need the system update for older games

Some other key points:
- ray reconstruction likely also coming to Pro.
- Pro will continue to be improved. OG PS5 going to fall further behind in image quality over time.
- coincides with the leak earlier this week of an updated FSR4.

Seems Sony and AMD are really working in tandem here.

No. RE9 already shipps with the PSSR2 dll.
The update will include the updated dll, and this will do a driver level replacement of the old PSSR, making it system wide.
