Scale (scales of a reptile or fish)
comes from the old french escale and is actually related to the word shell.


Scale (for weighing/measuring)
comes from the old norse word skal, which was a cup. sometimes these were used to measure things, hence its modern use in English.


Scale (as in scaling/climbing something)
comes from the latin word scala, which means ladder.
