Life for example and not sure who else played trials in destiny but there's a reason it was the weekend only because while I loved It, it was sweaty as fuck and I wouldn't want my whole gaming experience in destiny being trials.

I got the lighthouse many many times, I enjoyed the sweat but it had to be in doses and Marathon sounds like 24/7 trials... No thanks lol

The reason Trials is weekend only is definitely not that it's just too intense to be available 24/7. That's fucking ridiculous. It's just FOMO engagement baiting. Just like Iron Banner... or is Iron Banner so intense that it can only happen once every couple of months?

As for the sweat factor, it had that same energy as old pre-SBMM COD lobbies. Where people who were decent at COD would run full stacks, roflstomp lobbies of randoms and think they were the greatest gamers ever.

Ironically, after years and years of manic changes to the matchmaking and rewards structure, it's now a very low sweat mode, as people can get the tier 5 rewards they want... no sweat... by losing. Err, well they could, if anyone was playing the fucking game

Posts like this come across as grasping at straws. Resorting to stalking individual devs to make fun of because you failed to find anything "woke" in the game itself. And I'm saying that as someone who almost died from cringe at the wokeshit Bungie stuffed into Destiny 2. Honestly, even I'm a little surprised I haven't run across anything embarrassing yet in Marathon, so well played Bungo. I just know someone is going to @ me telling me the runner designs are "woke". To that I say get some help, man.

On Xbox it isn't even in the top 50.

They probably anticipated this which is why they geared the UI towards mouse & keyboard / PC. But it looks like it's starting to hemorrhage players on PC as well.

This is performing far worse than I expected. I thought the game would be well over 100,000 now. And despite that, I thought maybe console players were boosting that up but apparently not.

Bungie are dead. Real shame. Halo 3 and Halo Reach were amazing.

I didn't make a judgment on that aspect of your post, just the reasons behind Bungie making it weekend-only.

I don't mind if a game is pure sweatiness, that's generally how I play Siege and Rocket League, I don't bounce off to casual modes if I'm 'sweated out' so to speak. I'll just go play a different game.

Iron Banner was limited so Bungie just had a thing for the community to do between major content releases. There wasn't much special about it aside from a few drops, most players were up to light level.

Trials was almost assuredly weekend only to focus the player base into it so they had a larger matchmaking pool, specifically so they didn't have sweats stomping you and your friends. Even then I think it was bad design. It died twice for a reason. Both Trials of the Nine and Trials of Osiris cannibalized their own player bases as they got sweatier and sweatier over time till no one wanted to engage with them anymore. They were always a bad idea and I don't think people realize how many casual players threw their hands up and walked away from Destiny when the major focus of the game became grandmaster Nightfalls, Trials, and grandmaster Raids. Bungie themselves said only 5% of the player base even engaged with raids and they decided to double down on hard modes. I could happily teach and walk one of my friends through Leviathan or some of the earlier raids. No one I knew wanted to remember 30 fucking symbol call outs to get through Vow of the Disciple's first encounter. I don't think people understand just how much damage Bungie did to themselves by doubling down on the hardcore community and listening to whiny ass streamers about how their raid race didn't last 18 hours as if that was healthy for the game.

Jokes on him, I do most of my shitting on Marathon from work. Besides, isn't "unemployed behavior" just a byproduct of being a western developer these past few years?

You can already see the cope happening on social media, which is how you know this game isn't doing well. All the fanboys are doing their "I'm having fun" rounds in literally any conversation about Marathon and it's future. Nothing has been more telling that all these influencers pop up on X all saying the same shit just days after launch. I don't even need to see numbers at this point, because the patterns of what is happening are so recognizable. Game comes out, is basically a flop, people who like it start attacking "gamers" and telling you "if you play it more you'll like it" people who hate it "aren't real gamers", then the random "I'm enjoying it" shit starts, then other developers see necks on the chopping block and start chiming in to blame the "gamers".

Then the "journalists". who are just PR extensions of developers at this point, start their attack articles for Operation Narrative Change, telling everyone how "terrible people" cause X game to fail, they'll toss in an anecdote about straight dudes or "chuds" for good measure, and we should hate them for it. Then in a few months we'll get an article from TheGamer about how Marathon was "Trans coded" and alt-Nazis killed it as part of the attempted genocide of Trans people. Finally, we'll get the Concord takes where the people who liked Marathon just post their sad "it was a good game" any time the topic comes up again.

We've seen this song and dance a dozen times now, the fun with Marathon has just begun and most of it will happen outside of game.

Best summary of everything that has been happening (and will continue to happen) for this AAA Western companies - is like an algorithm by now, the only good thing is how this trend shows they literally cannot control how people spend their money and/or time (I bet if they could create laws for it they would...)

I tried marathon and I think there's a lot to like in it, but I don't like the premise of extraction shooters. I'd like to see a massive course correction or for the game to be more than what it is. Like how Destiny was more than just PVE.

Since Bungie are the ones that made it a weekend-only mode, the reason for it being that way is their reason, not your personal reasons. Therefore, you in fact did say that.
