What's the worst tech advice you've ever received?

This isn't the worst but it's something in the past 3 years. Someone once told me the reason my wireless Bose speaker wasn't working with my computer because I had a headset plugged in at the same time. I told them that's not a problem at all as the Bose speaker works if I restart, and he said that's not possible. He treated me like I was an idiot for having a speaker and a headset and the headset was plugged directly into my computer.

It turned out it was the PS5 controller I plugged in was using that speaker as my main speaker.

Someone once told me I should start downloading all my music in FLAC because the bits in mp3s degrade over time like records and CDs.
holy shit GIF

Winner, lol.
I've heard something like that before, but it's more about copy-pasting degrades the audio overtime. Same thing with jpegs.

That using SLI video cards is worth doing.

I forgot this shit.
I've almost buying a 2dn GTX 770 2GB, thinking "yeah, now is power x2 with 4GB of VRAM"..

But seein almost all games have issue with SLI, I stopped to thinking about that.

Actually, I should have bought the 4GB GTX 770.But some idiot told me, "Don't worry, 2GB is enough and blows the PS4"

To this guy. Fuck you.

I bought 2 GTX 480ti's at the time. Took one out and sold it on eBay.

It wasnt maybe the worst, but a bad advice I got from the internet was buying the Sony Bravia XH90 series TV.
Sony promised full HDMI2.1 capabilities but we only got half resolution 4k 120hz.
It still is a good/decent TV, but I will not buy a TV because of an announced future feature..

Someone at work said a K6-2 was better than a P2, and the price difference was nothing to be sniffed at. It wasn't. It took me a long time to even try AMD after that.

Up until a few years back...

"16GB RAM is more than enough."

And

"Upgrading to DDR5 isn't worth it"

I was fortunate enough to have a couple DDR4 dual-channel kits that were identical. So didn't fall for the first one.

Unfortunately, fell for the second one and didn't upgrade to DDR5 as a result.
