LMAO they've entered the "I'm having a blast" stage already? That's how you know things are dire.

What are the stages and stages of what? Having fun?
Stage 1: It's a Thursday, game will get a big bump in the weekend.

Stage 2: Well at least the population is stable.

Stage 3: People are waiting for X thing to pick up the game.

Stage 4: Well I'm having a blast!

Stage 5: The game doesn't need a big population to keep being supported!

Stage 6: It's the internets fault this game died

Source: My ass and watching the same thing happen with Concord and Highguard,

So you think this game will shut down in a month tops?

I'll avatar bet that.

The strategy is keeping gaas multiplat because it A needs all the players it can get and B has a larger audience on PC than single player games as proved by Helldivers...

Dont know why some people ignore that they have different strategies for gaas and sp to strawman a moot point
They've got all the money they've made from SP stuff on Steam on one side, and some anomalous thought clouds on the other that no traceable income can be attached to. I bet Steam income took some of the pain off Days Gone. Turning their nose up at that after the recent track record is ballsy.

Nah I don't think it will for a long time, it's just similar reaction to the disappointment. At worst it'll be shifted to life support mode like Halo Infinite currently is.
A lot of this games chance to have legs and add players will be on:
-Ranked mode appeal
-4th map/raid boss event
-Seasonal content road map

Arc IMO is doing an awful job of post launch support for core/hardcore, but a casual player likely is still not done doing all the quests. It took me 50ish hours to do all of Arcs content, and I got bored around hour 75.

I'm over 50 hours into Marathon and haven't even completed one factions story line, seen more than 30% of its loot and item pool, and as mentioned have a ranked and 4th map on the horizon.

I trust Bungie to keep pumping out content but thy need to avoid lows like D2 base, and they can't be taking a year plus to have their taken king moment with this.

I hope it prevails because for me it's my favorite extraction shooter I've played, and up there with Reach and D1 from bungies offerings.

I'd be interested in seeing data that supports this. I never thought Marathon would appeal to Destiny players. High stakes PvP and low stakes PvE don't seem like much overlap
It's not that Marathon is appealing. It's just that it's the only thing Bungie fans (the remaining ones) have to play. When the novelty wears off, they'll go back to Destiny... Maybe

Get ready to be annoyed when tomorrow's Steam peaks are higher than today. Game is clearly building momentum
So... about that

I might be wrong but it looks like it's getting lower, let's take a closer look

It's sad that this thread has 40 pages and most of the comments are hoping it fails.
Says the guy who spends his time posting gossip threads about chills and attention-seekers? Criticizing them but doing exactly what they want?

At least don't be pedant, stick to your lane Gossip Girl.

So for those keeping track. We have our peak for today. 62,495, down just a little from yesterday's 66,593. Is it close to finding that level?

Sorry that I didn't account for Taco Tuesday, where it's well known that a few thousands avid PVPers like to spend the evening eating crispy shells instead of ganking. Feel free to add an extra 10k to the CCU if it makes you feel better.

The attitude reflects Sony choices this gen, nothing more, if marathon comes out ps3/ps4 gen nobody would give a fuck or at most would laugh at the art style and move on. Clant blame people trying to protect their hobby before all turns into roblox and fortnite before their eyes.

Bungie has around 800+ devs + big marketing budget. They got some money from initial sales but that simply does not cover at all making game for nearly 10 years + marketing. Destiny 2 numbers are even worse for a while now they made shitload of money but that gravy train is over. Marathon was supposed to be their get out of the jail card.

I give it 2-3 weeks. By then game should drop to 10 thousand users at this rate. It will depend what Sony will do. Due to AI there is very little investment money in markets which is why Sony is butchering studios left and right. So what do you think Sony will do with nearly a 1000 people making GAAS game that doesn't have numbers ?

It's not just Marathon at stake here. Whole Bungie can be butchered in those 2-3 weeks.

Its not balsy at all, its backing to reality, and calling the entire history of consoles gaming to this day "anomaly though" its just precious, people really likes to forget the basis that all of the console business was made (exclusivity) because of two-three years of a pseudo - different path its just ridiculous.

Pcs always existed, pcs are a thing since forever, that money and business was always there, the only one stupid enough to chase it was MS and they killed their tradional console business doint it so (not the only reason but certainly a important one), Sony tried and saw that 1%-2% revenue its not enough to risk shrinking their hardware/storefront business) specially since closed pc living room boxes are to become a thing (steam machine, magnus oems).

If you have people here in the forum, myself included saying that changing to pc for next gen was a real possibility because "why bother" with consoles without exclusives than you can be sure they also had the awareness that this could happen in a larger scale outside of gaf/enthusiasts.

Anyway the "leaving money" on the table is a non-argument if you consider all the past history of console gaming, the present history (just look at nintendo) and how the Pc market is shifting even more towards steam/steamOS devices.

But all this is offtopic and had been discussed to death... so moving on.

The US peak has fallen every day so far. The game really needs tonight or tomorrow night (ie. before the weekend starts kicking in) to show an increase on the previous night, or this will look more like bleeding out than just a case of weekdays being lower than weekends.

Game is selling more on steam (per reports) were is easy to try out and refound the game if you choose to, compared to consoles, so the fluctuations will continue I think for some time, lets see were will idle.

But I really dont think when Sony bought Bungie and invested a couple hundred of millions and years on this game , this was the intended result. I bet they expected Bungie to produce their peak gaas moneymaker experience.

It'll probably get a bump when the rest of the game is released and full reviews go public but yeah, it's not looking good long term and I'm not sure Bungie will be given much time to turn it around.

Fluctuations beginning would be a good sign. So far it is just a descent.

I think the spikes that brings close to the higher ccu even if declining will eventually stop and will idle in the low end and continue to fall from there to whatver niche status number it get.

Spikes are just different regions waking up and down. What kills it is that there is no any uptick. It's always down day by day. At this rate it will hit 10k in less than 2-3 weeks and 1k in a month.

What an odd situation. The gamers playing Marathon appear to be having a great time, and the CCU mob are also having a great time. It seems everybody is happy.

As far as engagement goes, I suspect there could be a spike once the reviews hit. From the review progresses I've read, most seem very positive about the game.

I'm kind of teetering on the edge of a purchase purely because I'd mostly be playing solo and I'm hoping that Bungie balance the game for solo players a little.
