Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

I totally agreed with you up until you brought up Sword of the Sea.

They're different, not worse or better than the other. You don't have to bring down one to lift up the other.

Not trying to hate on Sword of the Sea; I just don't get the uneven amount of praise for each respective title.

thank god for pc. Holy shit, simply pushing the settings up into pc exclusive territory fixes most of my graphical complaints concerning the lighting... Just why the fuck didn`t they show this before in gameplay vids? Maybe because then it suddenly becomes just as heavy as all other games with that sort of tech?

Still watching DF vid but yeah the console RT solution was clearly compromised, I wonder if it can be fixed later.

Cinematic settings aside, what sort of hardware do you need to enable all that RT stuff? I don't play a lot of modern games so there's a lot of mumbo-jumbo I'm not familiar with, like ray reconstruction.

4070 for 1440p and 5070ti for 4K

But for Cinematic settings (that are above ultra) - 5080/4090 for 4K output.

I think this table is using native resolutions?

With DLSS anything with enough ram can play this at high settings. 4070ish performance?

I'm sure even lower end gpus can do it.

I have a 5800X, a 4070 Super and 32GB of delicious RAM. You think I could be able to play this at 2K, High/Ultra, with DLSS Quality/Performance while enabling all that cool RTX stuff?

I think with 1440p output and DLSS Quality - you will be able to run Ray Reconstruction and mix of high/ultra/cinematic settings without problem.

But of course, we will know final performance when the game launches.

That would be amazing. Can't wait to try out the game, and here's hoping it comes with a nice benchmark tool for us mid-range peasants to test it properly before starting the game.

Thanks both of you Bojji Bojji and metareferential metareferential for the feedback!

DF in the latest video show a 5080 averaging around 50ish fps cinematic settings and ray reconstruction (dlss perf).

I'm sure some updates in the day one patch and some tinkering in settings might push that up.

RE9 finally accomplishes what I've been waiting for since REmake was released in 2002.
Pompous, photorealistic horror house environments, but now in real-time 3D.
I never want to leave the care center, ever... :messenger_smiling_hearts:

I still remember playing Frogger on a VCS 2600 on a tiny b/w CRT at my cousin's house in the 80s.
It's completely bonkers being able to experience the evolution of video game graphics over the last 40 years firsthand!

Just as a comparison, playing the Avatar DLC right now, and maxed out Ultra settings at DLSS 4k performance, i get 77 fps with ray reconstruction on. And this game has RT shadows which Crimson does not.

Definitely heavier than other games maxed out which is funny because of all the hype over how this engine is so much more performant.

Never mind…once you enable the REAL highest settings "Cinematic Quality" settings, the game gets very demanding.

RTX 5080 Cinematic quality 4K DLSS Perf w/ RR can't reach 60fps even in what seems to be a very secluded & quiet area…

Damn Im so happy I dont give a shit about ramerate lol.

To me anything above 30 is just fucking more cheese on the pizza bro.

50FPS ... with those graphics is just unreal. Cant imagine not being happy with this. you PC gamers are spoiled AS FUCK man, lol.

lol no. 5080 with dlss performance so 1080p internal resolution is maxing out at 51 fps with ray reconstruction. maybe if you turned off ray reconstruction, but dont do that.

just drop to ultra settings. it runs fine at ultra settings.
So wait, if the 5080 is getting 50fps with those settings... the 5070Ti wouldnt be able to hit 30?

5080 is hitting 50 fps with dlss performance, not native 4k like you asked.

human vision is boring. i have access to photorealistic graphics every day and im bored to death. i turn to movies and games for escapism, for stuff i cant get when i walk outside.

These post processing effects have been in movies for decades now. they are tried and true. im ok with devs giving people an option to remove them but i want what movie cinematographers have been doing for close to a century. give me something more than just photorealism.

i can promise you France during world war 2 in saving private ryan did not look like a ww2 documentary. Spielberg went with that look because he's a genius who knew you cant just shoot the movie on location as is.

if anything, i wish more and more hollywood cinematographers were hired by games to give them that filmic look. The order still holds up today because they shot everything like a movie. Killzone 2 also went all in on post processing effects and that resulted in a 183 ms input lag. but it looked glorious. these effects also help with the cg look we all want so bad.

give me this next gen and i will die happy.

AHAHAHA! Hopefully this makes people realize there is no secret sauce, no magical optimization, no developer mystique, no streamlined Engine architecture. If you want better performance you have to downgrade visual quality. Plain and simple.
Exactly! And here we go again folks(despite I've been posted about this game for quite a while now) ,this is the result on 5090 and 9700x when you try to turn the good old ps4 era game into the king of "most unoptimized" garbage. :messenger_grinning_squinting: Ever wondering why? Geometry lodscale 1.0 >>> 2.5 with lodconfig modding, grasslod 3.0 >>>>9.0, dlaa preset M + image sharpen 0.15, it's mostly stable , (same as I used to say if you still remember) but what about the actual limit? How far can I push it further ? I've been mess with it a lot lately with new ideas here and there, and finally get the "perfect" results I used to thought impossible (visually wise, comparing to photo mode. You can see the performance is whole another story) .

44fps on 5090? Rasterize game from 2019? Too much weed?

For real this time , the hd assets(max quality environment models) has been extended to the max range photo mode supports, which means you can force distant props to load (i.e. rocks and debris on distant mountains, ) and previously those not so hot spots to stay mostly consistent with upclose stuff . (Basically some rough areas where the lod is still kinda meh -- so couple of noticeable architectures and natural spots for whatever reason were still stuck in lower quality models while other similar range places lookin very sharp and decent. Like two huge bridges , you expect them to have same complexity and details from the view , but the far one didn't think so . The thing is in photo mode you can find the full detailed models are actually ready from a very far away distance, just still ain't being displaced yet. As a lod circlejerk I can't stant this sort of naughty behaviour :messenger_pouting: )
And classic cpu utilization problems kickin in lollll, 71% gpu usage in dock area
J18kIbsIcOxGaMd0.png

As far as I know by pushing lod this far except for path tracing titles without framegen, no other game can have performance this rough on latest gpu. Now imagine upgrading the rendering pipeline to suit raytracing stuff on top of it with everything else stays the same ,maybe dlaa mode gta 6 won't even be this tough:P

Its a shame Leons sections outside the care centre have none of that...

Lighting is definitely better than Indy and Doom. Asset quality is better too. As with youtube, details are going to be blurred out. We have plenty of evidence of the game looking phenomenal with really high quality assets and lighting.

The game has destruction, hair physics, cloth physics, water simulation, fog and smoke simulation, ragdoll physics on everything from NPCs to animals, insane draw distances, lots of big NPC battles not typically seen in modern games, stunning cities, and some of the most breathtaking vistas we've seen this gen. It's getting praise not for one individual thing it does right, its because its getting so many other things right.

If these gifs dont have next gen fidelity i dont know what does:

Lighting looks like TW3 level of bullshot.

I think it is impressive what this game shows, but I just don't like the look of it.

It's like there's no art direction at all.

For instance, Crimson Desert is technically way ahead of something like Elden Ring, but I much prefer looking at the latter.

That seems like a common thing for many Chinese games. I think that's mostly because their gaming industry is relatively young.

You prefer it to look more stylised? Of course it has art direction

Art direction this, Art direction that. The game still looks like this.

Absolute garbagio.

I've always hated the whole "Art Direction" argument around FROM games.

There's endless games that have just as, if not more impressive art direction than Bloodborne or Elden Ring, but still manage to not look like total ass on a technical level.

I don't know why I thought they were Chinese? But I think the same thing applies to Koreans.

Japan was making console games 43 years ago...
Aside from the correction I agree with your overall point. Korean and Chinese developers made their claim to fame during the MMO boom of the 2000s. And their exposure to games was primarily through PC, so they just experienced things on a different timeline than what Western and JP devs went through during the PS360 gen and PS4/XBO gen.

Due to this, a lot of their design philosophies still reflect the trappings of MMO games. That includes a lack of an impactful story (especially around protagonists), higher focus on cool factor and gameplay, but at the same time bloated content.

I think playing Capcom games forms a good bridge towards the Korean and Chinese game experiences. Because while Capcom does well with iconic character design and iconic moments, they tend to falter a bit when it comes to storytelling aside from a few exceptions. They also tend to lead with gameplay and style first due to that, which works out for them.

However, Capcom in a smart way, tends to develop their games around a single story concept and build from that point, so that the scope of their games isn't too much of everything with a kitchen sink. I think mainly Dragon's Dogma 1 and 2 are examples of them doing too much, and you see how that ended up going for them.

I guess I just transcended from Graphics Whore to Visual Art Enthusiast.
Because that image makes my balls tingle (and not because of the naked dude with a pot on his head)

Yes, I'm sure the game has art direction and I'm sure that went further then : "place a forest here. What kind of forest you ask? The one with trees" (right?)
But normally I have an opinion about art style (if it speaks to me or it doesn't), but in this case I just feel nothing.

I don't think it's ugly. I don't think it's pretty. It just…is.
