So there is a phase roll out. Was this guy right or still BS?

It's how Sony operates.

Yes, Sony firmware updates, particularly for televisions and some consumer electronics, are often rolled out in phases rather than all at once.
  • Gradual Rollout: New firmware updates are typically released gradually to internet-connected devices over several weeks following the initial announcement.
  • Automatic vs. Manual: If a device is connected to the internet, it may not receive the update immediately. Users who want the update sooner can often download it directly via USB from the Sony Support site.
  • Regional/Model Specific: Rollouts can be phased based on region (e.g., North America) or specific model numbers.

My buddy has the same Sony TV as I do, we bought them around the same time, within a week apart. He always gets his firmware notification about a week prior to me, like clockwork :pie_roffles:

Seems like BS, who even had the firmware update when he tweeted that? I've not seen anyone even people in the beta program say they had anything.

Unless his talking about some internal release.

Yeah I was actually looking for this from a post I commented on so that I could update my post. Couldn't find it.

All the flickering in SH f is gone and it fefinitely looks sharper overall. FF7 rebirth is now a lot sharper than even PS5 base 30fps. All around looks great.

~2x better in raster, much better in RT and ML. But how much it will cost? Who knows...
I'm not even that interested in raster, how in ai and rt what will define how games gonna look and plays,in these areas we'll see real generational leap,i think price wouldn't be higher than pro imo

Improved PSSR can also be enabled for existing supported games via PS5 Pro's optional system setting.

Today's PS5 system software update introduces broad support for the upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), delivering enhanced image stability, improved clarity in fine details, and more consistent performance across supported titles.

PSSR is an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel as it upscales game visuals. With this latest evolution, image reconstruction is more precise, motion stability is improved, and developers have greater flexibility to balance performance and fidelity on PS5 Pro.

Several partners are already integrating the upgraded PSSR into their titles and have shared their impressions of the results.

Capcom

In addition to the recently launched Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has also adopted the upgraded PSSR in Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon's Dogma 2, further refining image clarity and stability across both titles. Visit our previous blog post to read Capcom's comments on their use of the upgraded PSSR in Resident Evil Requiem.

More games supported soon

The upgraded PSSR is fully integrated with the latest PS5 system software update, which begins rolling out in phases starting on March 16 at 10:00 PM Pacific Time. The update will gradually become available to all users over the coming days, and you can also manually check for and install the update via the PS5 system settings.

In addition to the titles above, Crimson Desert is also adopting the new PSSR when it launches on March 19th. And furthermore, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077 will also receive a patch in the coming weeks to support the new PSSR!

If you'd like to see how some of your other games work with the new PSSR, you can apply it to all PS5 Pro games that support PSSR today. While results may vary by title, many games may see improvements in clarity and image stability. If it results in any unexpected visual effects, you can turn it off at any time.

The upgraded PSSR represents another step in our commitment to evolving the PS5 Pro experience. Moving forward, most new PS5 Pro titles will launch with support for this enhanced PSSR, ensuring players continue to see improvements in image quality and performance.

Also, please note that the algorithm and neural network used in the new PSSR stem from our Project Amethyst partnership with AMD. This upgraded PSSR represents the very latest innovations in our co-developed technology; stay tuned for AMD's next FSR update that will bring these advancements to even more players around the world!

We look forward to seeing how developers further leverage this technology in the months ahead.

With that being said. PS6 is by the end of next year so.... So waiting is also not a bad option. ..

I think Sony should clarify the rumors about the PS6 release as it will hurt people on the fence of either upgrading or waiting for next gen.
treat it like a rental. buy it today then trade it in by the time the ps6 comes out. i got $350 for the ps5. pretty sure i will get somewhere around $350 for the pro as well. not bad for a 3 year rental. small price to play gta6, intergallactic, wolverine and other sony exclusives at a decent IQ and framerate.

Since hobo ps4, gamestop got all my consoles for a big discount on the next one.

Haven't payed full price for a playstation since 2013.

So is the timeline for the toggle and specialised patches, or will some of the games get an update earlier?

Does the Pro have a patch refresh button? 😂

Death Stranding 2 doesn't support PSSR at all

I'm playing the game since early january and i could tell something changed about the visuals actually. Then went online and saw quite a lot of people talking about this. Foliage specially looks messy now. If it's not PSSR then something changed for the worse.

In your case it's 3 years. For me it's 1.5 years.

But I do get your point though. There are some games I want to play and I was waiting for them on the PC but since that is no longer an option. Buying a PS5 pro is worth it.

Good move from Sony. I really like exclusivity for consoles. Makes it worth buying a system . Not release everhthng on PC. This is coming from a 5090 owner too

Thing is, their buying prices have been getting lower and lower man, I mean, before the Pro came out, they were buying the PS5 fat digital for...210€ or something like that and the PS5 fat for €20 more, nothing like those prices you used to see from stories regarding GameStop in the US...

And now, since they've became Gamelife®, their buying prices are even lower...

I work all day and i hate to deal with people asking to lower the price when i sell something, gamestop could pay less, but what i lose in money i earn it in mental health.

When i bought the pro they super-valutated my games, even old ones for some bizzarre reason so i payed pro less than half with the disc drive.

What do you mean they turned into gamelife? I haven't been on a gs since yotei launch...
