Meta Quest 3 | OT + Review Thread |

Some of the most recent stuff outside all the Meta downsizing news since VR is alive and well (despite Meta). More.

Some more. Too much to fit. VR too dead.

Spent 5 hours today playing the elite dangerous VR mode with airlink. So cool that works on epic store too, even if you have to download twice. Setup is kinda cumbersome, but really rewarding.

Question: how do I recharge the controllers?

Also, I bought a bundle for steam, but one of the games seems to be US only, so:

Well this guy posts a clip every day almost nowadays so I won't be posting them all and just go for actual trailers like this one from December but yeah, probably looking at the next Vertigo 2 level indie Half-Life right here, it looks amazingly well done and varied, not just another generic shooter.

man, I appreciate the other trailers (especially the cave one and the Table Troopers, looks nice) -- but whoever this VR Panel creator is needs to go away, that kind of low effort content is what kills app stores IMO.

These are just 2 second things that you can already load via the web browser on the device if you point it at any of the millions of existing web ports of solitaire or minesweeper.

If they wanted to make a real release, they should have at least created some kind of fun 3d version of the games. I'm disappointed that Meta doesn't screen their app store better to prevent this kind of thing.

Post more about the good stuff and spread the word so they do better if not well, even big vr sites don't post about most shit coming out at all if they aren't clicbaity/pay for it/give exclusives for their showcases and with asset flips and ape games being constantly released/trailered stuff get lost...

Edit: oh, I forgot to post these here too yesterday after waiting for some more stuff to be gathered together (even if some are small stuff I don't add them above instead cos they'd be too many links people don't click, like all the tweets a couple posts prior, which include some really cool stuff too):

Demos of various VR games are coming up for Steam Next Fest, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Empire City! Check back to easily browse all releases:
Or click here for everything VR that's part of the current fest even if it's not actually newly released.

Gah, I have to vent with that Boz headline. Out of touch and insulting to devs that were never on a gravy train and produced results Meta's billion waste flawed ecosystem was unable to sustainably support. The media preferring clickbait over covering great software lost among slop don't help. Lack of focus, constant steps backwards with the OS & user experience, failing to capitalize on great works like lone echo, which pioneered in both immersing solo experiences and esport caliber multiplayer early on, takes baffling incompetence they wanna pin on developers wanting handouts.

Smoother Apps, Happier Users: Introducing FrameSync for Meta Horizon OS

What to expect with Framesync

1) More consistent smoothness (and often higher FPS)

FrameSync helps stabilize frame pacing, which typically shows up as less judder and fewer visible hitches during motion.

2) Fewer stale frames, especially long streaks

Consecutive stale frames can be especially noticeable (and uncomfortable). FrameSync reduces both the frequency of stale frames and the longer runs that can disrupt an experience.

3) Lower motion-to-photon latency

Better prediction can reduce the delay between a person's movement and the corresponding visual update to help interactions feel even more immediate and responsive.

oh, maybe my home feed will stop looking like the Google app store

btw I got Jurassic World Aftermath during one of the many sales (not the current one) and I didn't enjoy that one at all and actually refunded it :D
I'm surprised they only ported it to the Switch because they could easily bring it to other platforms. It doesn't feel like a VR game. The world doesn't react to you at all. There are all kinds of notes lying around, but you can't grab and read them. You can only touch a few buttons, everything else is static. Even the Dinosaurs (like the small compys) don't care about you and just play their fixed animations. Trespasser was definitely more VR like :messenger_grinning_sweat:
The comic graphics were sharp (with quest games optimizer), but also looked really simple.
Also for some reason I got some motion sickness. Even with the really slow movement and not having VR motion sickness since the early Vive days  Jurassic Park games are really cursed.

We can only hope. Worlds was such a useless waste of resources. Should have shut it down before actually going for the devs that made the Quest's killer apps.

Probably Asgard's Wrath II for production values. Maybe Arken Age counts. Drakkenridge is in that vein but indie. Arcaxer is an indie JRPG-like. There's Triangle Strategy from Square if you want a traditional SRPG. Lots of roguelites like Ancient Dungeon, Zix, Dungeons of Eternity, The Light Brigade.
