Most of the stuff I would like to see is probably off the table because of production costs going up instead of down .
Crazy thing is that a new optical media format would probably be a godsend in the middle of this memory & storage crisis

I like Nintendo's game key card idea. Sony and MS should just use 64-128 gb microSD cards where the game code can always be updated. Or continue to use 4k blu-ray discs that cost peanuts to mass replicate...hey if you want to pay $90 for a microsd option by all means...

Problem with that is the disc's don't contain the game files, or even if they do, it's outdated builds. You can't update the disc's. Also, good luck trying to use a Blu-ray disc with the PS6 Handheld.
MS is already halfway there for the Xbox Ally handhelds.
You could technically build such storage cards yourself for Xbox PC games or any other PC games.

No chance we won't need to buy new disc drives for PS6. Every generation, Sony always makes huge changes to the overall "box design" from generation to generation. So they'll engineer the new system so the PS5 drives won't fit.

I don't think so. Sony likely wants to move toward a fully digital ecosystem, but they're not ready to take that step openly yet. At the same time they probably don't want to make it too convenient for people to stick with physical media, so they introduce this indirect barrier. Because of that i could imagine things like a relatively high price, limited availability or even a deliberately unattractive and bulky design.
And then we have the controllers. If the PS6 controller introduces new features, it will probably be similar to the transition from PS4 to PS5, where older controllers won't work with newer games. The justification would again be something along the lines of: "We believe that games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we're bringing to the platform."

I disagree. There is still a significant portion of the Sony userbase who buy large quantities of physical games, like myself. But I believe Sony will want to maximize the profit from that, as it is often more convenient to buy physical copies of games from vendors other than Sony themselves. Being able to sell another disc drive for those that want this feature seems like an easy way to make profit and I have extreme difficult believing they will just let PS5 add-on disc drive owners pop it out and slot it into the PS6.

Most discs contain the game files. Key Cards will have the same issue of outdated builds and GKC on the S2 actually require a download to even function. They're the worst of both worlds.
Are you actually suggesting GKC be writable lol

the disc drive should have been any usb blu ray drive in the first place and not some xbox360 hdd like nonsense.

No way. They could reuse the same drive but at least you would have to buy a new cover because PS6 will have to look different. But even that's unlikely, they're gonna make you buy a new drive.
