Controllers |OT| It's the Hall-Effect Life!

They have it as a feature, but there are comments saying changing the intensity and feeling of it makes some racing games feel wrong. Like it's just punchy for shooters.
I've seen people mention it's not exactly the same when it comes to subtle details, but you can tweak the strength of the g7 pro vibration triggers to make it work better from what I've seen people mention.

I recently bought the GameSir cyclone 2 for £48 off amazon. Was £56. Works really well. Great battery life. Been using it on PC with Resident Evil 9. Very responsive. First time using a controller with TMR sticks. Nice to have a controller that doesn't have stick drift for a change! I was initially eyeing up the G7 Pro but was unsure about chucking £100+ at it. Anyone else use the cyclone 2? Maybe down the line i might go for a higher quality controller but for the time being this suits my needs. Is there much to gain from using the G7 pro?

Even lower latency on sticks and better microswitch buttons. I had Cyclone 2.

Also it is more comfortable for smaller hands.

But Cyclone 2 should have more linear sticks, apparently they've fixed this with G7 Pro 8k, and used different more linear TMR stick modules. But its like what $130?

If you're happy, and don't care for impulse triggers I wouldn't switch yet, since Cyclone 3 is coming and I have yet to test it but LeadJoy Xeno Plus could be the current best in price-to-performance ratio king - Xeno Plus uses the same sticks G7 Pro 8k uses and has similar form factor. It is only capped at 1000Hz instead of 8000Hz but you won't notice this that much.

It just got a review, I'm only halfway through but it seems very positive.

Tagging BeardSpike BeardSpike too given that he's expressed his interest in it too.

As mentioned here.

It's right there in your alley with $60 price tag.

Both me and Diseased Yak Diseased Yak will be getting Xeno Plus so we will post our impressions as we both have G7 Pros. So wait a bit and you will know if it's worth getting that one instead of G7 Pro.

I think it's slightly bigger but not by much.

Shape is more comfortable though, I had to tuck my elbows with Ultimate 2, I can do that on G7 Pro but if I won't my wrists don't hurt like they did with Ultimate 2 so I much prefer G7 Pro over Ultimate 2 tbh.

Yeah I will be sure to get that one. As I didn't have PC when Steam Controller 1 dropped nor I wasn't into controllers as much as I am now. And I think it would be an unique controller to say the least. I can already see myself playing some point and click or RTS stuff on in from my chair on Steam Controller 2, lmao.

I'm also curious if the TMR sticks they will use will be linear. Can't wait to find out.

Cheers for the detailed response pal. Yeah looking forward to your impressions of the Xeno Plus.

I'd second this observation. I found the Ultimate 2 uncomfortable to use for more than 15min, so I returned it. For me, the shape did cause some awkward positioning. I find the G7 Pro similar to an Xbox Series controller; basically I don't notice it, so it just blends into the experience.

Yeah, same here. I just forget it's there. Initially I had a gripe with L4 and R4 positions (front additional buttons) - but after using it for a while I just stopped noticing that they are so close. If anything I can always reach them and don't missclick them like at all.

Huh, I thought he was a trusted seller.

Now I'm getting worried as I live abroad, lmao. But I'm based in Central Europe so it might be good though.

Good thing I'm still waiting for a pay day to either purchase it or preorder it.

Diseased Yak Diseased Yak you've preordered LeadJoy Xeno Plus on Gadget right?

Yeah, I did. That sucks for that person, I hope our orders are still ok, like people pointed out he's normally a trusted seller, so hopefully that's just a hiccup.

8bitdo's biggest flaw are the ergonomics, but the new Ultimate seems to fix it thankfully

I'm excited to get it in!

In other news: Do you know if there's anyway to get the back buttons on things like the GameSir G7 Pro to work in Linux? Or is that just an unrealized dream?

Gamesir says they're working with Valve to get integration with Steam Input, so in future it should be able to bind the back buttons. I think the G7 Pro 8k model already has support, but not the rest yet.

Shame about the silicon grips though, they reduce the product life by years.

I still want them to make an XL Ultimate controller but it's never going to happen.

I don't get that shit either... who likes those? seriously? they don't even feel good most of the time. all they are good for is pealing after prolonged use, and looking bad.

I use a Nacon Revolution 5 on PS5, and that also has that shit, and it's starting to peal off after like a year of use.

Perhaps this has been discussed already, but Flydigi has made some changes in the latest/upcoming (not sure when they are landing) output of the Vader 5 Pro. Apparently they've added the physical tension ring mechanics to it. I have a Vader 4 Pro and really like it, but didn't bother getting a 5, and I'm glad, I'd rather have the "final" version of it hah.

Completely agree. Not a fan. I've been burned enough times from when I did tolerate it that I flat out ignore any product that has it. Plenty of otherwise decent products out there are no-go because of it, but I'm never changing my mind.

I'll take silicon over flat or gloss material, but just etching grip patterns that won't wear down over time is the way....only exception is if the silicon grip can be easily removed/replaced.

a hard plastic with a grip texture is the way to go for sure.
I love how the Xbox SX controller grips feel for example.

on the 8bitdo Elite 3 you can easily replace the faceplate in theory (it's magnetically attached), but I am not sure about the sides...

Yeah, I figured the tops can be replaced, but it's rare for the sides + backs to get the same treatment.

The Dualsense backs have an alright grip texture, but the front gets none of it, and the grip texture still peals off the white paint over time.

The Wuchang G7 Pro controller I do like where even though it has the silicone back, it uses these feathered patterned protrusions on the front that has nice grip and just looks cool. If they could just do a grip texture on the back, and the feathered pattern that's magnetically removable on the front we'd be golden.

I got the 8BitDo N64 controller 'ghost' edition delivered this weekend. I'd forgotten ordering it, and I'm still not entirely sure why I did.

Seems okay for the price, I guess. Tried it on some N64 games on the Switch 2 and it works fine. The colour isn't what I expected, though - it's not like it appears in photos, it's a fairly horrible sort of pale baby blue. I don't like it at all. I was hoping it would be like the original GBA milky blue.

Build quality is not very impressive - the faceplate overlaps at the corner of both grips, particularly on the right side, where it leaves a sharp edge. I was considering getting the 8BitDo Ultimate 3E at some point, but this is giving me second thoughts.

Diseased Yak Diseased Yak GadgetHyper has shipped my LeadJoy Xeno Plus. I'm excited to try it out, I will report back with a small review after it arrives and I will compare it to G7 Pro, my dudes.

I'm curious about those JS13 Pro+ Angle TMR sticks. If soldered properly they have 98-100% linearity. If soldering is botched 96%. Apparently the movement is fluid, and centering spring has slightly higher tension than regular Alps stick.

Mine shipped as well. Who knows when it'll arrive, though, China -> Arkansas, USA hah. At some point, a donkey will drop it off.

Me, China > Poland, so Central Europe.

Probably like a week, two weeks at most.

If AliExpress is anything to go by it should like arrive in a week, I think.

Diseased Yak Diseased Yak https://parcelsapp.com try dropping your package number here.

It shows detailed route with Town names and Airports. At least for stuff I order on AliExpress. It even remembers the package number so you can always like go back to it to check where it currently is, or which donkey will drop it off at your doorstep, I guess.

It should also work with whatever shipping carrier GadgetHyper is using. And it should like switch to your country's courier along the way, so it's pretty good site I think.

It could be an useful site for other controller freaks here, since most of us order that stuff from China anyways.

Deegital is teasing up Xeno Plus. Diseased Yak Diseased Yak mine still hasn't have moved from China like at all, even in China lmao. I guess Gadget is just waiting a bit, and he will just probably like drop all the pre-orders at once at the shipping centre or something.

Btw Durin Durin has shared with me that something is finally going on with Steam Controller

It seems Valve is moving huge shipments in preparation for launch.

I love how strong the 3rd party controller market is. If the SC2 wasn't so close to release now I'd be tempted by the Leadjoy

Even if it has rubber grips? It looks like it has them, lmao.

I will know when I will* have it in my hands.

Hah yep mine is still at a standstill as well. It'll probably update all at once and be on my doorstep before I'm alerted.

Nice! I really love the look of it.

And speaking of looks, I'm not big on symmetrical sticks but that GameSir Tarantula in orange is a banger, I'm gonna snag it just to look at it on my shelf.

Yeah, it's just it doesn't have any rumble - because it's a Competitive Edition - it should have newest on the block Capacitive Sticks though, redesigned by GameSir - since they add their own spin to K-Silver designs. That what interests me tbh. The last Capacitive Sticks controller I had wasn't that good tbh. So I'm curious how V2 of those sticks will behave.

And since last time I chatted with BettaCore and him being excited they are hitting 2k stable and maybe just maybe 4k during internal new Tarantulas tests - it appears now the those madlads at GameSir have hit stable 8k on Orange Edition of new Tarantula, lmao - and it isn't out yet.

That's one way to do "we think we can do better", I guess.

gamesir have been around for 13 years? i had no idea

I don't know if I posted in the piece of shit of a thread here as I didn't even know it existed until I saw it on the front page and just now.

I got the Gamesir G7 ZZZ edition. I'm not trying to exaggerate but for the price it's probably the best controller I've had. I thought it was light until I got the switch 2 Pro controller so this is a double whammy of pad observations.

The game sir packaging and the whole thing for 130 USD is really really good. I love the amount of interchangeable parts that it comes with and the way the case has that charger underneath it so you can store the controller in the case and still charge it. I am not normally the one to buy these premium pads but one of my Xbox series controllers had a stick drift issue and instead of using the other three that I have I decided so why not get something premium and most controllers I have are really good and I'm perfectly fine with them but there is a difference in just the quality and especially the packaging when it comes to these. If anything else dies I probably will buy another one of these assuming the wireless receiver accepts more than one pad, I hope.

The switch 2 Pro controller is simply okay. I thought it would be nicer for 90 US dollars but I do like that soft feeling of the control kind of like a matte finish. I don't know if there's anything really special about it but I think it has HD rumble right? Nothing exceptional and I think it's a little bit on the overpriced side especially compared to something even like the dual sense. Now I did hear the battery life was really good so if anybody can give me any confirmation of that, that would be great. It's very light and almost feels very cheap. I ended up getting one of those rip covers which actually makes it feel better because it covers the d-pad as well as the plus and minus buttons which are pretty cheap in my opinion. I ordered it because it was a grip but I didn't even notice it had the little covers over the buttons. I would highly recommend this as the controller feels like it could break if you drop it more than 4 in from the ground.

This is a little off topic but I just had a dream earlier and you could teleport when making calls through landlines kind of like the Matrix but in real life. It was called the "Hall Effect" in my dream and it made me think of this thread title. That's it, sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.
