Many years ago I played RE5 on PS3, and I'm beating up on zombies mutant things coop with friends in mercenaries mode, there's a heightened level of action here and RE5 is in the vicinity of 3rd person shooter, and action horror and I believe the series is destined to go back to this formula at some point, obviously RE6 was pure adrenaline, RE1-3 are better, 4 is handled perfectly, and now you're having solid resident evil games with VR RE7, RE8 and now 9.

RE5 people were like "well it's not traditional resident evil" and it didn't impress the hardcore fans but that doesn't mean it isn't a very good game.

Visually when it comes to games from this era you see lots of greys, browns, muddy graphics and its intention was based off the African/oil refineries/swamp landscapes.

Bottom line

There's 6 main chapters spread across 15-20 Hours not counting mercenaries mode, battling the mastermind of Umbrella, and the speedy gameplay to me makes this a must play game.

I honestly go between this and village as the worst mainline games. Muscle head Chris was nice to see since he's so boring in all his other post OG RE1 appearances but i really hate the rest of it.

One of my favorite RE games of its generation. My buddy and I went through it in co-op countless times and it never got old.

"Complete global saturation."

I only fully completed this game for the first time a couple of years ago because I skipped out on all that time in the past. I was impressed with it and thought it was a perfectly good game, if you like Resident Evil 4 I don't really understand why you wouldn't like Resident Evil 5 was basically my conclusion. There are some aspects that are wonky but that's true just about every Resident Evil game. Not sure why it got all of the hate that it does.

I remember the game being well received at release, but it always felt weird that to experience it fully you needed to play it with someone.

I did, and loved it, but also never replayed it whereas I've replayed many of the mainline games. It felt like it was following trends and, in a way, it started the decline of Capcom. I think the error was to make it a mainline game instead of a spin-off of sort. RE6 also got a lot of hate for similar reasons (though it's objectively a worse game).

Excellent game, probably a top 10 PS360 game of that generation for me. Mercenaries mode doesn't have the mobility of RE6 but the characters are so much more varied in their loadouts unlike RE6 where each character feels samey except Jake.

RE5 Mercenries
RE6 Mercenaries
Revelations 2 Raid Mode

is pretty much the holy trinity of Resident Evil gameplay. I like the survival ps1 games and even the newer first person games too, but those three modes are better than anything else we have gotten.

In some ways I'm torn on it like 4

It has great highs that make it timeless
It has lows that make you wish it didn't exist

The last game with tank controls.

I enjoyed 5 at the time, especially in co-op, but I gave it another run through at year ago and I really didn't enjoy it. It felt like 4 v2 but a downgrade in every aspect. The AI partner really didn't help this.

My hope is that the remake takes a big swing and rewrites the game from the ground up, but I don't know if they will have the balls. It's been clear for a while they regret killing Wesker though, so who knows what will happen.

It's not on RE4's level but I very much enjoyed the game and put a lot hours into it. Certainly more than any other RE title since then except for the remakes.

Sheva is great and I wish they'd done more with her.

Comically unhinged Wesker was a great villain with his monologues and Matrix agent reflexes. The AI for Sheva was ass, but if you played co-op it was a hell of a time.

I only completed it in single player but it felt like an inferior RE4 to me at the time. It also ended very badly. I remember there being a talent drain from Capcom around this time after they'd been amazing during the PS2/GS period and it showed. I believe Separate Ways for the PS2 port of RE4 was made by what was left behind and that was absolute garbage.
I played some RE5 co-op but not enough to really say how much better that would be.

Tell me you didn't play RE6 without telling me you didn't play RE6

I played it last year for the first time. It was fine. Not great. Not terrible. Just mediocre in about every way.
