Herman Hulst confirms end of Single Player PS games porting to PC.

That's a good point about IP Fahdis Fahdis in the past when did they call games they didn't even own the IP for first party? Even Patapon, which was made by a third party studio mostly, is owned wholly by Sony. It's only in modern times when multiplatform matters so much that Sony's been willing to settle for timed exclusivity and not owning IP. Obviously they wouldn't have to settle for that if they were making their own games in Japan, but they mostly aren't.

The main point still stands, then, that Sony's Japanese game development arm has been gutted, which is why they've got almost no Japanese-made exclusives :/

Never it was always 2nd Party Output. I gave the same answer to nial nial

Sure, would still be cool to have PC-ports for some games, well, mainly Demon's Souls. Would have loved some proper ICO/Shadow of the Colossus(already exists)/The Last Guardian remakes/remasters on PC aswell.

But as a PC-player I will manage.

Lmao, oh for fucks sake bro 🤣. Please for the love of god dont fall for corporate shenanigans. Im not the authority, it has been like this for decades.

1. First Party: Owned IP, Inhouse Dev Teams
2. 2nd Party: Can be Owned IP contracted to a developer who works closely with the Publisher, Publisher does not always own IP but does give and take on Exclusivity on their platform ie Quantic Dream. Usually the Publisher moneyhats developers to just release games on their system.
3: 3rd Party: Contracted, not inhouse dev teams, system agnostic, can be contracted to work by Publisher on a project

uncreativename uncreativename

Yes, which doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't first-party. And keeping up with DS2, what about it then?

actually, nvm. still, not sure why do I have to believe you. "it has been like this for decades", who decided it?

The industry itself.

All of these games (PS5 demake of Demon's Souls aside) can be emulated. With image quality and performance that exceeds the console versions.

How can they drive growth in the installed base with the least amount of work? This is the answer. Someday they'll have to make some good games again... but that day is not today.

Third party is moneyhatted. Second party sure as hell isn't.

Well at least we got Ghost of Tsushima on PC before they pulled the plug.
I still don't plan to buy a PS6 though. Gran Turismo 8 will be cross-gen just like the last one and I'll just get it on my PS5.

Where the fuck is killzone? Infamous? Resistance? All these recent boss mam lead craps is enough. Can't even release a game like saros without all this crap shoved in, a game that basically doesn't even need a cahsracter background.

Fuck you and your fat fish market sniffing aloy.
Aside from God of War PlayStation first party's always been good about creating new IP for new concepts. Gran Turismo obviously hasn't changed up the concept much so it's continued from PS1.

Killzone's preferable to Horizon but still not a well-rounded IP with memorable unique mechanics or characters. inFamous was mechanically better than Ghost of — with more memorable characters but lacking the Japanese cool aspect.

nial nial I can't find anything about another publisher for Patapon other than Sony. I guess one of us would need to fire up the actual game and take a pic to know 100% for sure though
It's not about any other publisher, Rolito was the artist behind the game (most designs were already made before the game existed) and Interlink their management agency. They used to be copyright credited on every single material related to the IP, which meant that Sony didn't fully own it.
uncreativename uncreativename uhh, bother to explain that reaction. as far as I'm aware, most games don't put the name of their artists on the copyright legal notice

Show me. Also, aren't Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft the industry as well?

Indeed. And now you have major players like Steam and PC platforms come in. So they start crying about marketing "exclusives".

Third party is moneyhatted. Second party sure as hell isn't.

Ai Slop straight for you.

First-party (1st party) These are studios that are owned directly by the platform holder (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo).

- They develop games specifically for that company's ecosystem.
- The platform owner fully funds, publishes, and controls them.
- These are usually "system-selling" exclusives.

Examples (Sony): Sony Interactive Entertainment owns studios like:

- Naughty Dog (The Last of Us, Uncharted)
- Insomniac Games (Spider-Man, Ratchet & Clank)
- Santa Monica Studio (God of War)
- Guerrilla Games (Horizon)

These are all first-party because they are owned by Sony.

Second-party (2nd party) This is a bit less formal, but it usually means:

A studio that is not owned by the platform holder BUT makes a game exclusively (or primarily) for that platform

Often funded or heavily supported by the platform holder

Think of it as "partner exclusives."

Example:
A studio like FromSoftware making a game funded/published by Sony (like Bloodborne) → Sony-exclusive, but FromSoftware isn't owned by Sony.

So:
- Not owned
- But closely contracted for exclusivity

Third-party (3rd party) These are independent studios or publishers that are not tied to any platform.

- They release games across multiple platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Switch)
- They control their own publishing decisions
Most games in the industry are third-party

Examples:
- Rockstar Games (GTA series)
- Ubisoft (Assassin's Creed, Far Cry)
- Electronic Arts (EA Sports titles)

Good. Tired of reading threads with PC Steam glazers port begging, and complaining about games they didnt care enough to buy a PS5 for, as if they're entitled to play everything just because they spend over $3000.

Sucks they never ported any of the stuff I'd actually buy.

Luckily plenty of indies and asian devs are making those kind of games so it's all good. I'm probably skipping the PS6 either way.

didn't even prove anything

PS4 / PS5 Second-party (or closely equivalent) exclusives

Bloodborne (PS4) – FromSoftware (published by Sony, studio independent)

Death Stranding (PS4 → PS5 Director's Cut) – Kojima Productions (funded/published by Sony for original release)

Returnal (PS5) – Housemarque (was independent when funded; later acquired by Sony)

Demons Souls Remake (PS5) – Bluepoint Games (developed independently, published by Sony)

Detroit: Become Human (PS4) – Quantic Dream (Sony published console exclusivity, later went multi-platform)

Until Dawn (PS4) – Supermassive Games (Sony-published exclusivity at launch)

Heavy Rain / Beyond: Two Souls (PS4 remasters) – Quantic Dream (originally Sony-published exclusives)

Important clarification (this matters)

Sony rarely uses "second-party" officially anymore.

Today they usually classify games as:

- First-party (owned studios)
- Third-party exclusives (contract deals)

So most "second-party games" are really just:

- third-party studios with Sony-funded or timed exclusivity deals

Hahahaah, even AI knows Publishers are full of shit now. Anyways, aint explaining to you no more. Learn about the industry yourself after this. You must be new.

I don't know which is worse. This, or PS users glazing over mediocre slop and calling it the best thing since sliced bread, simply because its E X C L U S I V E.

C'mon man, you're splitting hairs. By that definition every game that uses licensed music can't be fully owned by a game publisher either. You're telling me that the Grand Theft Auto IP isn't really fully owned by Rockstar/Take Two because they license music in those games.

My brother in christ, ever heard of Quantic Dream? Its a 2nd Party Output. The devs are not Sony owned Studios. Its just marketing.
Even if that were true the relationships were at one point strong enough they shopped their games to Sony instead of another publisher. Those 2nd party titles are really what people remember the PS1 to PS4 for when you really examine it.

Third party. A game were sony is just paying money to have it timed console exclusive or something is called moneyhatting.

If it is indeed second party they are doing more than paying a sum to have it exclusives. Most of these games wouldnt even be made without the publisher.

Patapon was developed by PYRAMID Inc. with Character & Visual Design / Art by Direction by Sebastien Giuli (aka Rolito). It published by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Patapon 1+2 Remastered was developed by sAs Co., Ltd., and published by Bandai Namco.

I don't know who this information helps, but there it is.

Sony license a lot of games to namco tjis generation.

Freedom wars is definitely owned by sony and namco still got it for a remaster.

Sony decided to stop using "2nd party" for marketing reasons and some people have really eaten that up, even though it dilutes our ability to discuss the games.
It's not that Sony decided to use "2nd party", it's that all publishers consider anything they publish as first party content as they retain control over its publishing rights.

MS would call Ninja Gaiden 4 and Flight Simulator as first party games too, even though we know they are technically 2nd party.

Nintendo would do same for Bayonetta 2-3, and Astral Chain.

you literally cannot separate patapon from its art, and only rockstar games is included on the copyright notice of GTAV:
©2008 - 2014 Rockstar Games, Inc.
on the other hand, patapon in 2007:
©2007 Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. ©2007 Rolito/Interlink

I'm replaying God of War III right now and... I just don't see anyone on the planet able to touch this stuff in this day and age. This is the most extreme game ever.
It would review below 60 today, we'll have wild headlines and outrage even outside the gaming circles.. maybe even devs arrested for fuck sake.

So now matter how optimistic I am, there's just no way it won't be heavily sanitized.
On the other hand, while surely fun and immediate combat is so insanely basic and simple compared to GoW 2018. I'd love to play these games with the new systems and camera.
The old games wouldn't lend themselves to the new camera system well. Part of the reason for that over-the-shoulder camera is to facilitate the interactions with the Leviathan Axe which obviously isn't present in the older games. Furthermore, the pulled back camera allows for a much wider field of view and better crowd control. This makes it so the original trilogy has some huge fights with a dozen enemies at once on screen, something that is rarely if ever seen in the new games and when it is, it's insanely frustrating because of the limited FOV. I do think the combo system is significantly better in the newer games though. However, the trade off is there are only 3 weapons per game, with the fists having been made effectively obsolete in Ragnarok.

In my opinion, they should keep the old camera and some of the old mechanics such as juggling and the weapons variety, but maybe add some depth to the combat with more moves and perhaps different builds (though don't go RPG).

And one understated aspect of the fixed and pulled back camera is that it really captures the scale and grandiosity of the Greek universe.

This just doesn't work with an over-the-shoulder camera. Everything feels closer and narrower.
