Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

IO Interactive are hopeless at HDR. Hitman: WoA needed a RenoDX mod to look acceptable because, as the HDR reviewer KoKlusz pointed out, "it's bad, like really bad".

But hey, at least the latest previews of 007 showed they fixed the most egregious pop-in issues I complained about last year:

Now:

So maybe some faith in 007's HDR implementation is warranted.

You can clearly tell they had to compromise on the environmental complexity and density in this scene, probably so the consoles could handle the explosions (which look identical on those cars btw... look at the smoke plumes on the 3 cars to the left at the end that get blown up).

Mixtape man. This game. Love how CG even these cartoony visuals feel at times. The game uses physics in several scenes like this. There is one super creative slow mo sequence with physics applied to virtually every object in the level.

That looks cool!
Are those skate sequences interactive and somewhat demanding, or is it a pure story-driven game on rails?
My last skateboard game was 'Skate or Die: Bad 'N Rad' on the Game Boy, but this might lure me back onto my deck again. :messenger_beaming:

Played it yesterday, really pretty, it's basically an interactive playlist and for the price it's pretty cool but I honestly can't understand all the 10/10 ravings about it.

there are some fail states but they basically rewind the game.

the game isnt about any kind challenge. its basically onrails all the time like journey. its more of an interactive movie than a game. but its beautiful.

Hmm, OK, thanks!
Then it's most likely not quite my cup of tea... but I'll check it out one day, the graphics are too good!

The environments, assets, UI, all look great in this game. Shame about the characters and animations. They should repurpose these environments in to a new game (maybe a Jedi game).
Yeah, amazing looking, although I feel that the geometry of some rocks, cliffs, mountains isn't that great and it can look quite poor.
Characters, agree, they look poor, especially in cutscenes, but if I'm to choose between these amazing visuals in game vs amazing in cutscenes, I choose gameplay any day.

Shame about the bugs as well, it was shit at launch and couldn't play it, thinking it's just a SW AC game, but it's really not.

That second shot is absolutley gorgeous, SW outlaws has such amazing lighting, snowdrop really doing a good job. I'd love to see what it could look like with a path tracing option, only weakness imo is the the character rendering not being quite as top-tier as the rest of it. Does snowdrop have some sort of nanite tech yet? I don't think an equivalent was in avatar either, maybe the AC team working with anvil can help get it integrated.

outlaws shipped with path tracing.

Snowdrop has support for mesh shaders but they only implemented it for foliage in Avatar. not sure if any of that made it into Outlaws but the foliage area in the game doesnt really have a lot of pop-in so maybe its used there as well.

they dont have virtualized geometry support though. hence the terrible looking rocks. maybe for division 3.

Fuck, Resident Evil Requiem has been growing on me. That Prison section as Grace, then making it to the helicopter outside, looks fucking phenomenal.

And the Sound Design? ELITE. Incredible atmosphere in this game.

I TOOK SO MANY PHOTOS IN PHOTOMODE
(but they all get reduced to shit quality, thanks PS5 screenshot mode)

What a game, easily my GOTY so far.

Outlaws just had an additional option for RTXDI which is basically beefed up RT, not comparable to proper PT like in RE9 etc. Still a step above the default RTGI though.

Too bad the Leon section in comparison is dogwater

You are right about Io and HDR. I was so pissed that they never fixed Hitman 3's HDR.

The first two Hitmans had great HDR then they release H3 with its broken, fake ass HDR....how is that even possible? Same engine, same devs. This was widely discussed/complained about too, they even acknowledged it at one point in the patch notes that they were "looking into it" but they never did anything.

Crazy because they even bundled all 3 games into the collection yet they were OK with the most recent entry having broken HDR and looking the worst as a result.

Makes me not want to support them. Also, your post just made me realize Bond is about to have busted HDR most likely...

FH6 looks nice overall, but a bit of a disappointing considering the gap from 5 and it being next gen only. They really should have added settings to push the RT higher, more bounces, higher precision etc. The lighting can look surprisingly flat and basic at times, looks almost ps3-like in tunnels.

Very underwhelmed by the city landscapes i saw of FH6 on youtube. Can't fin the streamer i watched yesterday but i really did not like the building architecture (or lack thereof)

They look like rectangles with one texture on it i don't know it looks weird.
For exemple here around 1:38

FYbPq9fHZuDO2LyV.jpg

To be fair it doesn't look that bad when shrank (shrinked ?)as much but on fullscreen to me it is jarring. The geometry is so low it reminds me of forza mexico which had the same lego cities problem (but they were few and far between).

This isn't a criticism of your comment, but if the buildings there are like that, what can they do? I understand they're meant to be represented as they are, and if they're just buildings with plain walls... there's not much they can do to add more detail.

I understand but still the angles are too sharp or something, im sure there is a way to make it look better even if the original architecture is blocky.

Compared to countryside landscape which sometimes magnificents with beautiful vegetation it doesn't look good imo.

Apparently they removed rtgi and reflections for the second half of the game. When i learned this is deleted it off my pro out of disgust as I was just about to get to that part.
They did.
RT disables after the spider battle in the first part of Raccoon City, then it reactivates in the bike chase, thankfully R.P.D. and Orphanage are identical to pre-patch, then disables again until you reach the ARK and right after you enter RT stays on until the end.
I'd recommend playing with 1.00 disc version (still has PSSR2) until a patch, for consistency sake. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Make sure your screenshot settings are set to PNG, it gets compressed too heavily in jpg mode.

Uncharted 3 called and said that it wants its rocks back

Pretty sure fucking crossgen gow ragnarock had better rocks when you climb the mountain with little shit...

Are you buying 2 copies?

Gotta support Hitman studio lol... More than likely I won't buy it at all I also have incomplete versions of H3 ("WoA") on PC and PS5 (bit more complete here).

But I never played this game for some reason (few minutes here and there), and I loved the original series.

You guys gonna eat crow when 007 comes out. Always nitpicking everything...
yep. this thread does this shtick with virtually every game that comes out. Avatar, Alan Wake 2, Star Wars outlaws, AC Shadows, RE9, Crimson Desert (yes, i remember when people were downplaying it forcing me to post and repost tech videos over and over again) and now James Bond.

at least they come around and admit they were wrong, but for once, id like to see people see what i see.

We've seen Bond gameplay and the graphics are not impressive. Cutscene graphics are not gameplay graphics and most of the time is spent in gameplay.

Oh please, you have done the same with games that are not under your "protection", let us have some fun like you have when you shit on games that other people may like :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Lets not turn this topic into something where we praise everything and nobody can say something bad, we already have the official topics for that.

they are pretty impressive. this thread had a collective orgasm while playing RE9's clinic levels just a couple of months ago, and the interiors here look even more detailed and better lighting. there are only a handful of games that look like this then gen, so im not sure what lofty standards we are comparing this game against.

i have, but very rarely especially pre-launch. but this is your motto. you nitpick on water, rocks and other minor issues while ignoring all the things the games are doing right. you are doing it with Black Flags right now. its not just this game.

i dont mind discussing a game's shortcomings. i am disappointed at the hero lighting downgrade in James Bond myself. But the nitpicking pre-launch just to downplay all the other nice things games do is bizarre. ive had to explain why games like AC Shadows that invest in virtualized geometry, ray tracing, hair and destruction physics would eventually stand out against the cross gen garbage from Sony way too many times. For Crimson Desert, i posted the water physics, rtgi and other tech breakdowns at least 3 times in replies to you while you were just hell bent on downplaying the game.

this game is doing RTGI on consoles. It has an insane amount of detail in every level despite not pushing virtualized geometry. it has massive levels and setpieces we havent seen since uncharted 4. it will feature path tracing on PCs. Regardless of all the tech features, its a very attractive looking game. One look at the game will tell you all you need to know but this thread loves to pretend otherwise until they play it on their fancy setups and change their mind. this happens far more often than me changing my mind about a game.

I praised crimson as much as you when the game released, but i also dont hide when it's time to talk about the flaws.

And look around dude, i'm far from the only one not liking this game graphic that much, even in the official topics outisde of here people are split.

Also, i'm not gonna say sorry for criticizing the water in bf, asking for top tier water in a pirate game is not an absurd request at all, there is literally a video where the water react worse than ac origins ffs...

Dont make me pass for the bad guy just because you decided since the reveal that 007 look incredible, me and many other just dont see it no matter how many gifs you post.

And you know i have absolutely no problem in eating crow if the game is gonna look great in the end.

We have many other topic to circle jerk, this is the only safe one where we can talk some shit without the mods kicking us out of the topic, let's maintain this safe place like it has always been.

My criticisms are not different from your criticism to forza 6 or whatever game you shitted on recently, if i see such shitty geometry in an official screen, i'm not gonna stay silent:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

There is potential for good graphics here, but I can't see shit behind absurd amounts of CA and film grain.

i know you dont which is why i said this thread comes around when the game finally comes out. you said it yourself, you praised crimson desert but you did only after it came out. But before the release i had to hand hold you into seeing what the game was doing well, and even that didnt work.

and yes, you are not the only one shitting on bond which is why i said the whole thread. ive just been through this with you guys for years now so i know how this plays out. 99% of you will come around.

you seem to 'get' the visuals for UE5 games pre-launch so im assuming that nanite seems to be the thing that pops out at you. nanite does rocks really well so any time any game doesnt come close, you tend to write it off whereas im like ok but what about the foliage or lighting or other effects? the lighting in this game looks so fucking good to me. it has the cg feel lacking in so many games. the setpieces are shot like a movie. it feels like a sony game made by Naughty Dog.

p.s i too was hoping for a crimson desert style simulation in Black Flag. its definitely disappointing but when the water looks this good im good with it. having played the original, i know just how impressive the water became during storms and combat so any upgrade to that will look phenomenal.

Just to finish my thoughts, the game look great in some parts, but what AAA game doesnt have parts where it look great nowadays?

Even the heavily criticized yotei can look great at times...

I clearly remember you agreeing with me with some of my crimson takes before launch, not our fault if yt compression hits some games harder than some others...

Wukong always looked impressive even on yt...

I always agreed on the fact thst the game was filled with nextgen tech, i fanboyed for the game a lot.
