Have you ever gone viral?

Posted in a thread on /x that caught some attention, Forgot about it for years, and then saw it was in a couple of those "unsolved internet mysteries" youtube videos.

Not my proudest moment.

For anyone wondering, this was Grildon Tundy Grildon Tundy 's viral moment.

Well congrats for veering right into useless poster territory with the likes of @LakeOf9 @DR3AM, GigaTard and the rest of the gunk.

"I'm introverted but here, let me tell you about how I went ultra viral. But please don't ask me about the details. You know, the whole essence of the thread."

Brilliant.
It's more fun this way - you get to imagine what meme he was:

But how were/are you famous if no one knows who you are?

Don't doxx yourself. I'm just curious.

I made a "for fun" video with my ex, talking swear words in my language. Meant for my friends to see my gf struggling with pronouncing words, but instead someone posted it on Reddit, and it got over 700k views. But I always thought it cringe for "couples" content on YT, even though that was the big thing back then so we never went into it. Now thinking back maybe we could of played around with it for a year and might of gotten some traction.

I haven't, but I'm probably the only person (other than it's creator) to know who started the Misfortune.gb creepypasta, which got quite popular.

There were some Zoomers at the Chick-Fil-A the other day and one of them was saying "I want to get another viral, I just had a viral, and my viral had 6 million likes." And the rest all blathered on about the "virals."

I was not curious enough to figure out what the viral actually was. And I didn't have a gun so I couldn't shoot them for using "viral" as a noun.

About 50.000 upvotes on a Reddit post is the only thing I've achieved. I posted a slowmotion video/gif of a flying apple. I was then granted access to some subreddit club for page one reachers and all they wrote about were farts.

When I used to play in pro esports I attended an a LAN event and played wearing a black hoodie with the face down and got caught by the cameras.

For a couple years from there, the organizations account would post my picture every May 4 on Star Wars day lol.

I also got a win at the death end of the game in the clutch but my teammate had gone to the bathroom at that exact moment so I turned back to celebrate the win and there was no one there, which created another meme :messenger_tears_of_joy:

When I was like 6-7 back in the 80s kids used to sing the "comet song."

Comet! It makes your teeth turn green!
Comet! It tastes like gasoline!
Comet! It makes you vomit!
So try some Comet and vomit, today!

Anyways one dsy I decided to throw at the end of the song "Nabiisssscoooo *dimg*." Which was a thing from Nabisco commercials.

At my school and on my soccer team which has kids from various schools it became the way kids sang the stupid playground song.

Many years later when I was in my 20s someone I knew who grew up over an hour from me was reminiscing about it and sure enough did the Nabisco thing at the end. They said that was how they learned the song, they were like 4 years younger than me.

I don't know how far that spread but it was my first viral moment.

I was also on some PBS shows as a kid who taught other kids how to do random shit like math, or some dumb arts and craft thing and people actually used to recognize me from that. I got laid once from it kinda lol

Anyways thought it would be fun to share some minor "viral"-ness from the 80s.

Kinda...

Late 80's, yes I am old, me and friend tried to make new sayings. The one we pushed the hardest was "shit ton". Hearing it about 40 years later on TV is awesome.

Back in the early 2000's I had a smiley face I used on various chat software that got popular for a couple of years. A old pre smart phone came with it at one point.

I was hoping our very own M Muppet345 would show up in this thread.

Andy Warhol (the Campbell's soup guy) said in the future, everyone will have their 15 minutes of fame.

I have. Don't really feel like doxxing myself, but chances are you've seen my "content". And I almost guarantee you've heard of the online trend that it started.

It's a weird thing. I made money off it. It was shown on TV. Thousands of copycats/homages/parodies. Millions upon millions upon millions of views. It's been directly depicted/parodied in TV shows that I was already a fan of. People built entire brands around the same idea.

So it's part of the global consciousness but now I just go "Huh. This is probably the biggest impact I'll ever have on the world, and it doesn't even belong to me anymore, and only close friends and family even know it was me."

Part humblebrag, mainly just being wistful.

Something I've wanted to ask on this forum for a while is if anyone can relate?

So: it could've been a picture, a meme, a video, a comment, etc. Have you ever gone viral?
No, and thankfully because I never wanted to. But I never knew you started Gamer Gate. Crazy times. :messenger_sunglasses:

Osest I ever got was when those 2 girls used my cup :p

But seriously, I was on the cover of a magazine once. Granted, its a somewhat niche industry rag, but I imagine several thousand saw it and read it.

I've tried to steer humanity on the right course with my highly influential internet activity but in retrospect it was all a mistake and I should return to my home planet.

One time I made a post on twitter that got 5.5K likes.

It was a shitpost based on my game, and it taught me that social media really likes dumb stuff lol.

I've written autographs and been in the local newspaper several times during my soccer-"career" when i was younger, dosent really count but it was fun and its good memories.

That is truly a legendary post.

Lol I always wondered where that one came from.

This is a weird one, and it ain't exactly viral, but I was super into MMA in the late 90s and early 2000s, and back then, it was almost impossible to watch the sport for anyone outside specific American markets. So MMA highlights was a big deal, it was how a lot of people got to watch it. You had to use DC++, Kazaa, DVDs, or direct messaging to get MMA videos, and many didn't wanna do that, so we who did became the "providers of MMA" outside of America.

Anyway, I was one of the first to make MMA highlights of fighters and events, and even if they sucked, there was a few that became popular. When Youtube came around, I uploaded a few and one of them got millions of views. They were removed because they used famous songs and I lost all my highlights to time.

Some fighters would contact me through kids in their gym that frequented MMA forums: Underground, Sherdog, and Ironlife. Josh Barnett and Ernesto Hoost comes to mind. I made the first video of Anderson Silva before he went to the UFC, and I got word back that he was very happy when he saw it.

It was my 3 seconds of d-league internet fame.

Was on front page of a newspaper section long time ago. I asked the photographer if he could send me a jpeg of it. He said ya. Never did. I then emailed him since I had his card. He never replied. I found out which day I was going to be in the paper (it was months later). Since the guy never sent me anything, I bought 5 copies of it from a newspaper box! lol

I told this story before year ago, but I was in Vegas in the 2000s for a stag. It was 2005 or 2006. Everyone chipped in as we called a hooker for our buddy but he chickened out. I think we had about $400-500 US pooled as we each tossed in $100. I decided to take the plunge. There were two girls. One hot, one meh. I gently turned away the not so hot one. Had a great time with the good looking one. Turned out it was porn star Courtney Cumzz. She even went by the name Courtney. She worked from one of those sketchy numbers you get off Mexican people snapping their hooker cards in your face at 11 pm on the strip.

Crazy fact too. No joke at all. She was such a nice person and cool to chat with as well. Zero attitude. Much nicer than the avg friend or coworker.

I remember that story, forgot who posted it though.

Not yet, but I've been working on this book, and I believe it has the potential to become huge someday. Shared it with family and close friends, and they also believe in it.

Once I become famous I'll come back to this thread, I promise
