Not sure what the game is, but one thing I'm impressed about is how quick the fighting is and how it doesn't feel like a bunch of canned animations. The transitions from sweep kick to blade attack, the grabs, etc.

I don't know what this game will be like in the end, but there's a lot of cool tech stuff being made. The giant bunnies is a bit weird though.

It's been in development for a few years now and it ain't even close to being complete. Programming and engine is done by one man, graphics by another and sound / music by a third dude. Looks amazing, even if I dislike furries.

The Overgrowth alpha changes -videos on their YouTube channel are especially fun to watch and you can learn tons of cool information about game engines from watching them.

he's a quite known indie developer, a friend of Unknown Worlds (Natural Selection 2). They did a preorder deal together a year ago. I'm thinking of preordering this game.

Damn, that looks good. Seems like a Mount & Blade type combat system with bunnies and superior blood effects. I'm in.

So, it'll probably never come out, then? Just like Natural Selection 2. :(

Well, at least he's releasing updates pretty much every week.

How can a team of three make an animation system that is pretty much better than most of what I see these huge teams do? Game looks very interesting.

Watch his videos. He explains a lot of the techniques he uses. And, I will agree, the animations really are astounding.

Goodness. These videos are very illustrative.

This should go beyond using only bunnies. I know most of GAF and I would love to fight with anthro toads.

I'm surprised that PC GAF didn't know about this game.

Natural Selection 2 team release patches every 2 weeks/once a month. It has come a long way.

I hope so. It was pretty unplayable on my GTX 275 during the start of Alpha. I might give it a shot again. Still, they are pretty incommunicado from what I've seen on their blog.

The Wolfire guys are releasing extremely informative videos every week. That's awesome!

Anyways, pre-ordered. I'll support these guys.

2-3 years, no big deal. heh

everyone dislike furries. there are no furries in this game though, the developers are not furries either.
There are. Furries are just anthropomorphized animals. People that obsess or fap to that are a whole different breed, so to speak.

I like that it looks like a fight instead of a fighting game. Everything has weight and impact. It reminds me of Bushido Blade or Die by the Sword.

There are cats in the works that wear gaudy clothes.

Fucking anthro frogs and toads are great! Spiritual succesor to Battletoads lol.

you should take a look at Natural Selection 2 official youtube channel. Not only they post tutorials they also post commentaries on full matches and videos about changes. Also they have twitter and they post about every patch and change there.

Perfomance is much better than a year ago. I want to take my time, watch all tutorial videos and dive in. There are people playing (just checked - 2 full servers).

I played Lugaru, it was interesting to say the least. This one has been in development since forever, so I'm not gonna get excited yet.

This is actually exactly what I thought of first. My girlfriend and I LOVE frog and toad, plus I think the little frog warrior in one of the DQ games is fucking adorable.

I pre-ordered this sometime last year to support the devs (huge fan of their philosophies) and to fool around with the Alpha a bit. The features shown in the youtube video logs make me all giddy inside. Can't wait for this to become a proper game.

Lugaru is interesting, but the combat/AI is kind of broken. The moves they teach you get countered 100% of the time, and the combat gets reduced down to leg sweep, and simple punches that leading to 2-3x combos. I've had some nice 1 hit kills with the staff, and some 5 hit combos, but that shit never happens when you are fighting a Wolf who one shots you most of the time.

It's fantastic just how lethal the combat looks with the weapons. Rock Paper Shotgun covered the game recently with an awesome gory update.

Kinda tempted to spend the money and play around with the level editor for infinite fights.

Man Overgrowth looks awesome, as a fan of Lugaru combat system i'm pretty interested in the game. Hopefully the story mode doesn't has the same issue as Lugaru (fucking wolves)

about animation btw:

RPS: You’re obviously relishing experimenting with technology to get this done, what has been the most interesting bit so far, and why?

Rosen: It’s hard to pick just one thing, but I think procedural animation is the most important technology I’ve been playing with, because it lets us make the controls much more responsive. This probably sounds like a non-sequitur, so I’ll elaborate. There are usually two ways to transition from one animation to the next: the first method is to simply cut or cross-fade from one to the next, which usually looks pretty unrealistic. The second method addresses this problem by creating a transition animation, for example, bridging an ‘idle’ to ‘run’ transition with a ‘start running’ animation. This looks great in videos and trailers, but if you actually play the game, it can feel clunky and laggy — the controls frequently stop responding to allow a transition animation to play.

In Overgrowth, I try to smooth over transitions using procedural constraints, such as maintaining the angular momentum of the torso and arms as much as possible, and driving acceleration tilts and dips separately from keyframe animations. This allows cross-fade transitions to look alright without interfering with the character physics, so the controls are always as responsive as possible.
