Because they think that they're edgy and funny by watching a show made primarily for little girls.

I mean, I love Adventure Time.
I love MLP.
I love Spongebob.

As to why the fandom exploded in the way it did, I... I... dunno. It must be the Ponies. Confound those Ponies.

I don't have too much of a problem when people use Japanese words for truly untranslatable concepts (though I try to avoid this as much as humanly possible) but that's pretty ridiculous. I hope it's a joke.

I was actually translating for a manga company who insisted I use as many Japanese terms as I could get away with because "People who are into it already know a lot of Japanese and they want to feel like they are reading the authentic version." Ugh.

Something I really hate is when translators leaves in "ne" at the end of a sentence instead of translating it...

What. What about the people who are just getting into it? If they are already "into it" and want it to feel Authentic they can go read the Japanese version. Its translated for a reason. Ugh. I had a couple of manga like that. No translations for people who couldn't understand either...

You gotta love it. I work at a Lazer Tag place that emulates Call of Duty and Counter Strike and all that, and you would not believe the amount of moms that ask if it's ok if their little 6 year old kid can play. We have an age limit of 8 years old, but I've had quite a few people ask if their 6 year old can play, too, because they really love playing Call of Duty. I've had at least 4 parents in the last few months with a few 6-8 year olds that all play Call of Duty. I mean I can see a kid being mature for their age and able to play games like that early, but 6!? SIX!?! Six is not the correct age to be playing a war video game like that. It's just not. It's objectively not.
 
I don't know, I played "violent" war games as a child. Is the realistic graphics the difference to people? The concept is the same.

I know. I understand fan translations are already being done for an increasingly niche audience, but then they bitch when official translations do it and use that as an excuse for piracy. This is the number one reason why I mostly don't hang out with other people who watch anime.

An example that handles this well is Blade of the Immortal. Dark Horse translates most everything there into English, even the variety of dialects, but they still leave in Japanese terms for money, units of measurement, and government terminology that doesn't exist today, and they include a glossary with each volume.

Or they know their kids can handle it and don't want to treat them like 4 year olds until they're 18.
