My Omnia 7 seems to handle light pretty well:

Some of the photos it takes can turn out great, though it really depends on the conditions. My favourite:

WP_000051%20%282%29.jpg

Also VanMardigan, the crushed/blown out issue is usually a hardware problem, not software. The size of the camera sensor limits the dynamic range of the images. It might be a software problem if the camera was having trouble finding the proper exposure for a balance between the light and dark areas.

Those pictures look really nice. I haven't really took many photos with my Omnia. But I've heard some good news about it.

Slowness in what matter? I haven't noticed any slowness beside attaching pictures maybe. Everything else seems smooth to me. I didn't use it on iOS or Android... That may be why.

I've found it pretty slow in general, won't let me send images and is often very late with messages being received.

Just bought an HD7. Anyone recommend a good case that's not too bulky?

Barely There by Case Mate?

I went to the AT&T store determined to turn in my Focus S and get a Titan.....and I couldn't pull the trigger. I got some extended hands on time with the phone (no one else around that wanted to mess with it), so a few things I noticed:

1. Phone looks gorgeous and feels awesome in the hand. The build quality seems superb, way better than my Focus S, but it is hefty and probably too big for my hands (I have average-sized hands). It also felt way too heavy, but that's probably because the Focus S is absurdly light.

2. The camera is undoubtedly better than the one in the Focus. I took several pictures side by side and the HTC Titan snapped the pictures quicker and each shot looked better than the Focus S. The Titan did have a reddish/pink hue overall though, so the pictures came out with "warm" tones compared to the Focus S. The Focus S seemed truer to the original colors, although it had a bluer, colder tone to its pics. But overall, this is a landslide, and until/if Samsung releases software updates to the Focus S, it won't compete with the pics on the Titan.

3. The screen on the Titan, while not AMOLED, was still nice. But when compared to the SAMOLED Plus screen on the Focus S, it just looked washed out and dull. Its crazy, because it looks great on its own, but the minute I put my phone next to it, the SAMOLED Plus just plain outclassed it. Which is probably the biggest reason I didn't pull the trigger on the trade. I even encountered another hardware anomaly last night (screen flicker) on the Focus S, and I'm having growing doubts about the quality of the phone, but that screen simply cannot be beat.

So there's my brief Focus S vs. Titan debate. Depending on what's important to you, I think either is a solid choice. Also, keep in mind that I've found some faults with the Focus S, but if I had spent the past week with a Titan instead, I'm sure I'd find some bugs and faults there as well, so this isn't an entirely fair comparison. The reviews on Engadget and other tech sites would never delve into the stuff I've found on the Focus S.

best case is the speck. but it only comes in black and pink. it can be had for under $5 shipped from ebay. i believe i ordered 2 for $8 shipped and one of them was defective, the power button wouldn't depress. other than that it's the best quality case that's out there.

my fave cases are these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055EN77Y/?tag=neogaf0e-20 from ebay. $8 shipped w amazon's super saver shipping. it includes 4 cases, a screen cover, and a charge that can be used in car or home. the cases aren't as quality as the speck case, the botton edges can be slightly exposed, but other than that they more fun than the speck.

I haven't experienced any of those problems. I think the worst one I've seen yet is not being able to go through the entire convo. It's pretty limited in that regard. Are you using it over 3g? That may be the problem. I've been using it on WiFi.

10 things I'd like to see for Windows Phone Next Year (in no order)

1) Flagship high end device worthy of a full price tag with an awesome camera
2) MS Points works to buy apps/games
3) New Updated Kernel
4) Big Resolution Bump
5) More RAM to help with the resolution bump and multitasking
6) Actual Turn by Turn Navigation built in
7) Native Coding Access to Select Devs
8) Bigger Push for Exclusive Games
9) Get Twitter and FB integration to be considered 1st party and not 3rd Party
10) A BIG Zune update ala the 3.0 update and make it available for MAC, PC, and Linux

PS: My LoL application called The Imp just pushed an update. Bet they finally updated it to go along with all of the new stuff from the big new patch last week! w00t!!

I think I'll just keep my focus and wait until the nokia devices are available in the US..

7) Native Coding Access to Select Devs

This is already being done.. they're letting some (high profile) developers use native code.. recent examples are Tango and Spotify.

For those of you who made a transition from hardware keyboard to software keyboard, did you adjust well or do you still yearn for a hardware keyboard?

Trying to decide between the HTC Arrive (HTC 7 Pro) or the Android Motorola Admiral.

edit: ah fuck it. I'll keep waiting.

It's the same over both WiFi and 3G.

Thanks for the suggestions. None of the Barely there cases left to ship via Prime on Amazon, so went with Speck case for $5. If I don't care for it, I'll look for the Case Mate case on Amazon again.

:lol tekky. Dude one of these days your gonna jump ship to droid. Then all of a sudden your provider is gonna carry windows phones, and I will lol.

That deal says it is for Windows 7 devices. And when I browse the phones for the deal, it has the WP devices at full price.

Deal isn't until the 26th.

Speaking of which, I went to the AT&T store to check out the Titan, didn't seem too big. Might switch my Focus Flash for it.

Not sure if the guy there knew what he was talking about (he hadn't heard about the WP7 deal yet), but he said that since my phone was still in my 30 day return period I could swap it out in the store and they could match the online deal of one cent as long as they're active. That sound right? I thought this was supposed to be "online only," can they still match it in store in that case?

Picked up a Titan today from an iPhone3G. I love this screen! Still getting used to the UI but I'm loving it so far. One gripe I have is that I can't add podcasts to a playlist from the phone or with the Zune software.

Pretty crazy that this phone is thinner than my iPhone. :)

i believe u can move the podcasts into the regular music folder and create playlists that way.

There's an app for that. I forget the name though...

Are there any must have apps for WP7?

Had my Omnia 7 for a couple of months now but just realised I don't have any non-game related apps other than Twitter and Shazam..

Cocktail Flow, Appflow, Amazon.com, Gchat, Whatsapp, IMDb, Kayak, Network Dashboard,
Tasks...

Yeah, I've read that I should be able to use iTunes to download my podcasts then add that folder to Music in Zune. I'll be trying this out later today.

Is BringCast the app you're referring to? It looks like it supports podcast playlists so I'm also gonna try that out.

I really hope I can get this working.

It's pretty funny. Even after a year I'm still such a non app user. Wonder Reader is pretty much the only app I use frequently. That, and IE for GAF, the people hub and integrated facebook chat.

I have a few problems with my Omnia 7 in regards to WiFi. It's honestly really strange:
1. Sometimes the phone will 'forget' to reconnect to the wireless network. I have to open the WiFi settings page to fix it (no idea why that would do anything, but whatever).
2. The internet will, seemingly at random, stop working entirely and just time out when I try to load a page. To fix this, I need to toggle WiFi/mobile data. Might be something to do with drivers.

@NotTarts: Where are those pictures taken? That place is beautifull man
Mostly around Sydney but the first one was taken in central NSW. It's a bit surprising because colour-wise the photos almost turned out better than the same shots using my digital camera.

I went to At&t store yesterday hoping to play with the Titan but there was none on display. The store clerk have no idea what I was talking about and kept telling me about Android phone. I told him it's a new Windows Phone and he finally go oh yeah we didn't get one in. This is at the official At&t store not one of those authorized reseller one not to mention it's their flagship store in this area.

I did get to play with Samsung Flash and Focus S. The Flash looks really nice and feel great too, I was really surprise. The screen is fantastic looking and not as small as I thought it would be. The Focus S, looks like giant version of Flash. Screen is beautiful but I really not sure how I feel about giant size tiles. The phone is so thin but it comes at a price, the battery cover door keep popping out (due to being stuck to the security chain). It was quite irritating to play with and I am sure anyone who looks at the phone would think this is a POS cheaply make phone. The camera is fast and I took a few and see what the problem Van was talking about. There is just a lot of "bloom", kinda weird since I don't have that problem with the old Focus. They did clean up Windows Phone section and removed all the broken phone. They put HD7s next to Focus S and by itself the screen looks fantastic but next to Focus S there is no comparison, that Super-Amoled+ screen really pop. They stll have HD7s for $199 that really should be at $99 in my opinion.

Oh well, hopefully they get one in soon before next week so I can play with it. I already think that Focus S is way too big so not sure if I will get used to even bigger screen.

At this point I am leaning more and more toward just keeping my Focus and my upgrade slot for the rumor Nokia phone next year. But man 1 cents for Titan or Focus S is just too tempting, not to mention I have two phones coming up for contract renewal next year.

Yeah, I really love my Flash, I'm still kind of debating keeping it over a 1 cent Titan if they can actually honor that (which I'm not really confident about). What's really making the swap inticive (how is that not a word?) is the storage, even more so than the inch bigger screen.

I also had really good luck when I went to the store and got my Flash, the guy that helped me there actually seemed to know what was up with the Windows phones.

Curse my existing family plan! Can't take advantage of any of these $.01 deals.
Does it require a new contract or just an upgraded line? I got the impression either was fine, if not I guess I'm sticking with my Flash anyway!

I think my specific situation (upgrading an existing line on a Family plan) is excluded. If you add a line to a family plan, or upgrade a line on an individual account, you still get the discount.

Do you have any kind of news/word on that? I'm on a family plan also, but I didn't see any sort of restrictions anywhere.

I'm on a family plan too and was planning on upgrading a line. That would kind of suck, but like I said I'm happy with the one I got so it wouldn't be a real loss.

Well, here's some more details:

AmazonWireless Instant Discount Policy
When you purchase your device with service from AmazonWireless.com, we automatically pass along an instant discount from the carrier to you. This discount has been provided to you based on your agreement to (a) activate a new, or extend an existing, line of service for this device with the carrier, and (b) maintain this service in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days. If you do not activate or extend a line of service in connection with this device, or if your service is canceled/disconnected before 181 consecutive days, AmazonWireless.com will charge you $250 per device, plus applicable taxes.

It does not specifically say anything about the family plan, but when I choose "Upgrade My phone/I am part of a family account", the price jumps from $.01 to $199.

When the Focus S was available a $75 discount on ATT's side last week, one of the stipulations was that you not be on a family plan, so I wonder if the same logic is being applied here?

I wish there were more clear rules on the sales. I'm going to wait until Saturday to find out if I can get a Titan on a family plan for $.01. But if I can't, I'm going to go buy one anyway, so I'd rather just go get it tonight instead of waiting.

I may open up service in my name to get a Focus S or Titan.

My current phone is paid for by my company now and I can't upgrade until 1/16/12

I've been loving my HTC Trophy, but far more for WP7 than for the subpar hardware.

What's subpar about the hardware? My gf just bought it on sale and I recommended it to her because the interface is easy to use. Is the hardware cheap or underpowered? Underpowered wouldn't matter to her, she isn't in it for gaming or anything...

No, the feel of it is okay, but it's pretty thick, and the camera and the screen are not good. In terms of power, it's the same as any other first generation WP7 phone, which is totally fine for what it is.

I don't regret getting it or anything, it was just disappointing in some ways.
