The only logical step for Amazon to do is release an Android phone.

Come on. That report is off the mark.

Why would Amazon be hiring people for Android in the past year and have an Android market place that gives a free Android app every day?

Maybe better integration with win8 and winphone?

I doubt the rumour is true but I could think of some reason why they'd consider it

1) patent costs
2) cheaper hardware (Windows Phone 7 is a beast on, let's face it, outdated hardware)
3) money hats

Highly doubt it as well. But those reasons are fairly solid. If Microsoft wanted to really kickstart things from their market position, having Amazon in your corner would be a good move. Highly unlikely still.

If Amazon was the iTunes of WP that'd be pretty amazing. Books, movies, films and cross platform too.

How are they going to release a phone on this OS when their fucking Kindle app doesn't even support highlighting

Can we let this rumor die. We know it's not gonna happen. Amazon has spent too much time with droid. I doubt they would do both operating systems. And I doubt even more they would go straight to wp7 and phase out droid.

Yet they just spent a ton of time and money making an Android variant for tablets?
It's not that crazy, part of me doesn't mind the Fire's interface because it's basically devoid of the hideous Android design. But another part of me wants to replace the OS with an imaginary version of WP7 with Amazon goodies in it.

Basically, Amazon backend + GPU accelerated OS is a dream come true. So I can see why people would want to insist on this rumor being true.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet and a Samsung Focus W7P. Why is it so crazy?

Don't forget the dual-core and 1 GB RAM.

OS runs silky smooth. Engadget even admits such. Have app developers been clamoring for more power from WPs. Seems like only higher end games would need more power and RAM. With the way WP multitasks, apps are given plenty of RAM. Especially on a phone.

EDIT: MS is giving $25 to new WP purchasers from now until the end of 2011.

Also, WP has hit 50,000 apps:

The browser could use it, you should check the benchmarks compared to iOS and Android for JavaScript and rendering. It's pretty bad

Looks like AT&T will be selling WP7 devices for $0.01 next week, if you want to double up on promotions.

Not sure if it includes the Titan or Focus S.

Probably just IE being IE, not sure if more RAM would help.

What the fuuuuu I might have to take my phone back and get a Titan/Focus S. I find it hard to believe they are going to offer two brand new $200 phones that just got released for a penny though. There has to be some sort of catch, like requiring a new contract and not an upgrade.

Neogaf is back, and so am I. Feels good, that ban felt WAY too long.

It's their black Friday sale (which goes on that entire weekend). The WP7 deal is the Saturday. I'm considering returning my Focus S and re-purchasing it (or the Titan) on that day. The problem is that deal seems to be online-only (so I have to wait for the phone). It will definitely cover the Titan and Focus S though, so its a fantastic deal.

I can't imagine they'll actually put the Focus S and the Titan up for .01. It won't even be a week after the Titan's release date.

But if they do:

Welcome back! It suppose to include all Windows Phone so if they have it in stock I am sure it will include the Titan. I am going to try it out this week too see how the Titan is. The phone looks huge ...

edit: just notice the new shiny + multi-quote feature and new editing feature on Gaf.

Got the replacement unit today. Perfecccccct.

It's a demo unit from Dell.

Well, I guess that's a terrible thing.

Promotional shit won't come off at all, even after a reset. Interactive tutorial unlocks the phone every 2 minutes or so. Can't update (super cool)!

Once again, I got shafted. I'm just gonna return this and look for a phone locally. I'm not dealing with eBay anymore.

What's wrong with the Focus S?

So it should cover upgrades and not just new contracts? I've seen a few deals that only worked for new contracts but it's never been through AT&T. Also never returned a phone, seems implied you get the discount back if you do.

Might go out to AT&T tomorrow and check out the Titan and see if I want to switch to that or the Focus S. Seems like they don't get them early, or can't display them at least.

Edit: Oh, and one thing that did really annoy me about WP7 is that you can't change your primary Windows Live ID. Might be a reason for that, but it's a problem because the first email address you put into the phone seems to become the primary WLID by default. I put my main email address in first to try checking it, but that email isn't my WLID. So every time it tries to do something with the WLID I get an incorrect password error and I can't change the primary one.

I guess that's pretty confusing, but suffice to say that if you have a Windows Live ID already, you should definitely put that in before you do anything else so you don't run into that issue. Only way to fix it is to do a factory reset as far as I can tell.

What's wrong with the Focus S?

I've been really disappointed by the camera, but since the sensor is the same one praised in the galaxy sII, I'm going to assume uts a asoftware issue that can be fixed. The build quality is also very cheap feeling, and there is a bug with the keyboard where it lags if you have sound enabled. Finally, it seems to have some of the slight refresh issues on the screen that I've heard people complain about on the HTC phones.

Two things on the AT&T sale to think about if you already bought a phone within the last 30 days:

1. Call AT&T, they may give you a credit for the difference.

2. If you are going to return the phone and then buy it on sale, keep in mind there is a re-stocking fee ($35 or so) that would eat into your savings a bit. Also, you need to have all the original packaging and accessories that came with your phone.

As far as the Focus S, I still love it, I don't want to give the impression its a bad phone. It is definitely better than the original Focus. I've used Tango for video calls, I've taken some great pictures, and the panel is the absolute best screen on any phone outside the Galaxy SII family. I even held it up next to my sister-in-law's iPhone 4S and my family agreed mine was superior. The colors pop and the blacks are unbelievable, and of course Metro looks fantastic on that panel.

The storage situation (non expandable) is absolutely nuts though. I'm already halfway through my storage and I have potentially two full years of content to get on there. Not looking forward to emptying out the fridge.

Van,

I'm glad that someone else is seeing the keyboard issue with the Focus S.. it annoyed me too much.. I had to return the phone because of it.

Especially having had a focus where it didn't happen, the keyboard felt bad by comparison on the Focus S despite the rest of the device being/feeling faster.

The keyboard lag is simple to fix, you just disable keyboard sounds. The camera, however, is another story. The frustrating thing is that it definitely shows promise, I've taken some stunning shots, but you have to really work hard for great shots, and even daylight shots get washed out with too much sunlight or crush the shadows. It's annoying, and I KNOW its software, but with no word from Samsung on that (or the keyboard issue) I can't be guaranteed a fix, so I'm heavily considering the Titan.

Here are some examples:

This is a daylight shot I took today, look at how much problems the camera has with the concrete fence on the left. SAMPLE 1 This is not uncommon, its actually the norm with this camera. I can put some work into it and come up with a much better shot that addresses the crazy bloom, but I shouldn't have to. Its a perfectly sunny day, and the camera simply cannot capture the sunlight and the shadows correctly. If I move the camera to the left just a few inches, the concrete is captured correctly, but the shadows get crushed and the grass loses all detail.

SAMPLE 2. This is a macro shot of baklava. You can see how good the sensor is in capturing detail. It's just frustrating that good shots take effort and MOST shots just aren't high quality as they should be.

Maybe I don't know what to expect out of a phone camera, but it seems like you're probably expecting too much. The camera is focused on the grass in the shade, most lower end digital cameras would probably struggle with a shot like that.

Phone cameras have taken huge leaps in recent years, far surpassing low end point and shoots. The issues I point out can actually be mitigated by software, and the frustrating this is I did not have this problem with the original Focus, for example.

SAMPLE 3. Now this is a shot from my original Samsung Focus. Obviously, its not a direct comparison, but it is similar in the sense that it's shadow/non-shadow scene in bright daylight and shot from the shadow. Note how the sensor handles detail in both the grass in the shadow and the bright wall receiving direct sunlight. Big difference, and if I had to find a culprit, I'd point to software.

Slowness in what matter? I haven't noticed any slowness beside attaching pictures maybe. Everything else seems smooth to me. I didn't use it on iOS or Android... That may be why.

Slow to refresh texts. I sometimes receive and dismiss toasts ~45 seconds before the app screen shows the new messages received. On other occasions I never receive the notifications and the live tile isnt updated until I open the app and discover messages from 2 days before. I don't think this version of whatsapp shows when a friend is replying either. It's just not reliable
