The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Is there a Vita OT? I could swear I read one that had info about the hardware, OS, launch dates, etc., but I can't find it via search. Little help?

EDIT: Found the Vita OS thread. 2/22 is close!

I wonder if Japan's pricing for Little Deviants is Sony throwing them a bone since Japanese customers are usually reamed in the butt on prices for other games.
They probably just realised that this game will not sell shit at full price, and since it's PSN only, they don't have to pacify retailers by artificially inflating the price.

I believe this new LORD of APOCALYPSE trailer hasn't been posted yet. Depending on the quality of the demo version I may get it as a Vita launch title, because it seems to be the most fun of all (Uncharted is too short, and I don't want to play any more Disgaeas).

Edit:
This just reminded me of this question I have - I've preordered the Vita in a local store and I'm now wondering about ordering the game, case and 16GB memory card from Japanese Amazon. The thing is, the release date of all that stuff is Saturday and you can't choose shipping any other than the basic one for this preorder. Did anyone have a similar situation with amazon.co.jp? I want to know if I'll get this stuff by/on Saturday or is it safer to just go around and try to buy it all at local stores.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Vodafone have today announced a partnership that will see Vodafone as the preferred provider of 3G connectivity for PlayStation Vita initially in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands, and with Vodafone’s Partner in France (SFR).

Suppose it would have been them in the end

Pure Chess coming to Vita (& PS3, though no word of cross-platform play or whatever)/

http://uk.playstation.com/psvita/games/detail/item432898/Pure-Chess™/

I have the real version of the set in the video. Does that design have a particular name? I thought they were limited edition things, I picked up a (numbered) set in a craft shop here in Ireland. The set featured in the Harry Potter movies too. Dunno if someone owns the design and is licensing it out?

I really hope it does have online play. It says no network play..maybe it'll work like words with friends!

I was looking at tablets today as a potential chirstmas gift to me but caught myself when I remembered the Vita will be here soon and do most of what I want. I do wish Sony would allow Amazon on the Vita/PS3 (or if amazon would allow it). I was on PSN yesterday and saw that Best Buy and Walmart have video services on the PS3. I'd love it if amazon jumped on too. Mobile access to amazon's video service (which I own some content on) is what keeps drawing me to the fire.

After playing some Dungeon Defenders co-op I was reminded just how annoying split screen can be. I can not wait for co-op across the Vita and PS3 to become a reality.

We never get a good selection of colors like Japan does around launch. Seriously it sucks. I'd easily get a colored one just to spice things up.

I really wish there was a go to online game to get at launch, but I just don't see one. Sure stuff like Wipeout and BlazBlue will be online, but IDK. One of my best friends and I would like to get an online game to play together, but neither of us see one that just sort jumps out at us.

I kind of hope Modnation becomes a Mario Kart.

Changed my Vita preorder to the first edition bundle when I saw Amazon was carrying it, seemed dumb not too for only $50 more.

Three months to go!

So if this thing bombs like 3DS, do you think that will somehow force a price drop? I don't think Sony can afford it, and for $250 it IS a steal, but I think I can wait out the Vita this time... I want the 3G model for $150...

Over the past 2 weeks the PlayStation blog has been highlighting Modnation Racers: Road Trip's features:

Last week:

1. Multiple Themes: With the power of Vita, San Diego Studio was able to give the user access to up to five times more “goodies” to create with than on PS3. In ModNation Racers: Road Trip the creator has access to over 20 different prop themes and can now mix-n-match up to fifteen of those into their track’s creation.

This means ModNation Racers: Road Trip players can now look forward to experience whole new un-seen worlds. Now THAT is cool! I can’t wait to see them!

2. Fully Rotatable Props: Now track creators have the ability to manipulate all of their track props in full 360 degrees on all axis points (big words for AWESOME!) along with complete scalability of items. Now that alien invaded scenario you have wanted to create with its buildings, buses, parked cars, tanks and park fountains turned on their heads is as easy as rotating two fingers on the front touch screen on the Vita.

3. Draw Track / Trace Track Modes: One of the first features most players will notice and enjoy right off the bat is the two track draw modes. You have previously seen how with MNR: Road Trip you can draw your track in only seconds using just one finger via the front touch screen. What you may not know is now with Vita’s built in camera you can snap photos of anything from your little brother’s face, a fire hydrant, a bus route map of your town or maybe even your cat. Import it and trace the image as the outline of your track. We can’t wait to see what the ModNation comes up with!

4. Estimated Track Times: When you have the whole world in your hands time can seem to fly by so we created a meter that estimates the lap time of your track.

This Week:

1. Mod Terrain
The most talked-about feature in ModNation Racers: Road Trip is the use of the front screen and rear touch panel to sculpt your track’s terrain. In Finger Sculpt simply touching a finger to the front touch screen will immediately begin to lower that section of terrain. Continuing to press or rub the area will result in lowering the terrain or create lakes, valleys, or rivers. Conversely the rear touch panel allows you to raise your terrain to create mountains, peaks, plateaus, vistas, etc… with just you fingertip(s). Try making a mountain range with all your fingers… kinda awesome! That’s what Multi-Touch Functionality is all about!

2. Edit Track
Probably the most powerful tool in the new track creation studio is the Edit Track feature. To put it simply, using the corresponding points on the Edit Track Bar you can raise, lower, bank, widen or narrow your track with super simple intuitive touches. Want to raise a section of the track?… press and hold the middle point of the track edit bar and simply slide your finger up. Too high?…slide you finger back down. It is very natural and very intuitive. It’s guaranteed to bring back those childhood memories of building that dirt track in your back yard for your toy cars and trucks. All other adjustments are equally as simple. This feature takes track creating to a new level and it’s a lot of fun!

3. Alternate Route
This feature allows you to easily create branching routes or shortcuts (depending on your desired outcome) by simply touching a beginning and end point on your existing track. An alternate route is instantly generated for you. You can of course undo and try again from a different spot on the track until you achieve your perfect route. The Alternate Route feature does all the heavy lifting for you.

4. Offroad Path
Want to take your racers a little off the beaten path?… Show them some of the hidden beauties of your track?… Reward them with a shortcut of hidden item pods?… or just lead them on a wild goose chase?… Simply use your finger to draw your path off and back onto your track and voila!… you’re offroadin’!
As you can see we’ve not only given the players more power to create but all this can be done in a fun, intuitive, and immersive nature. This is just the beginning. Hang on to your hats as we will be bringing you more details in the upcoming weeks!

just wondering, is the 3DS considered bombed relative to DS number and not achieving high expectation or is the sales number is really that bad?

I don't think Sony themselves are expecting crazy number to beat 3DS for Vita. anyway, I think strategy for Vita hardware is that it's quick to lower the cost, so I don't rule out 1st year price drop unless Sony is focusing on being provitable as quick as possible.

How can you tinker around with a device no one in the public has a finished version of?

Probably has a dev unit, or knows someone with one. The firmware extractor itself doesn't appear to do much, just extracts the container format (much like PSAR files were to PSP) and the contents are presumably completely encrypted.

hmm, I forgot about the whole hacker and homebrew scene that Vita will no doubt attract. speaking of homebrew, is there any effort hacking 3DS yet? seems like it's actually have reason to hack that instead because of region lock.

Haven't seen this posted... it would seem hackers are already tinkering around with the Vita. Firmware extractor released by SKFU --

Wow! Hackers are firing on all cylinders with the Vita it seems! Funny how they aren't paying that much attention to the 3DS, yet they're going on to attack the Vita before it even gets released!

Still, nothing will ever beat the GBA when it comes to hackers. The only system in history to have an emulator made before the system actually launched! (with ROM leaks of the launch titles prior to release to boot!)

Fuck you Japan

No, seriously, fuck you

I want blue... or maybe orange! Nay I NEED blue or orange

I'm still bitter...

I kind of hope Modnation becomes a Mario Kart.
it totally will be! the game is so fun on ps3. the loading times really killed it though. if the loading times are normal on the vita version, i'm probably going to put the most into modnation. playing online will definitely be fun.

I know scans not to be posted did anybody see the Tekken tag 2 bossed and scan with near confirmed for vita version.this got me over hyped tekken tag on the go on that glorious 5" screen drool!

Right now the 3DS is doing some good numbers and even even doing better than DS in its first year in Japan. In USA 3DS outsold PS3 last month. If PSVita has a slow start and Sony doesn´t take measures to change that, 3rd parties will delay their games and even cancel some projects like any other plattform that doesn`t sell well.

I'll probably move my fifa gaming to Vita next year and skip the console version.

I'll be doing the exact same thing.

This Week:

I haven't bought a kart racer since Crash Team Racing, but MNR RoadTrip will be bought day one. Brilliant use of front/back touchscreen and the camera-enabled Trace Track mode is absolutely genius.

Those are fake. The site who posted them made those images up.
